In a significant development in the high-profile Patna coaching centre clash, a local court on Tuesday stayed the arrest of popular educator Faisal Khan, widely known as Khan Sir, while hearing his anticipatory bail plea. The court also directed police to submit the case diary and barred any coercive action against him until the next hearing on June 20.

The order brings temporary relief to the director of Khan Global Studies, who faces charges of attempted murder and illegal use of firearms following a violent incident on June 2 outside his institute in the Kadamkuan police station area.

Self-Defence Claim in Court

Appearing for Khan Sir, advocate Arvind Kumar Mahuar argued that the firing by security guards was purely in self-defence during a scuffle and not meant to spread panic. He told the court that no one was injured by the shots, which were fired into the air as a group allegedly attacked the premises.

The lawyer emphasised that Khan Sir had instructed guards to protect lives and property when police response was delayed. Initial reports indicate the altercation began around 10:10 pm when 15-20 people reportedly pelted stones, vandalised property, and assaulted a security guard.

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) on Saturday declared the KCET Result 2026, ending the anticipation of more than 3.3 lakh candidates who appeared for the state-level entrance examination. The results were announced through a press conference, after which the scorecard link was activated on the official KEA portal. According to officials, Tanisha Karthik emerged as the topper in the engineering stream. The Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET), also known as UGCET, is the primary gateway for admission to engineering, pharmacy, agriculture, veterinary and other professional courses in the state. Candidates can now download their scorecards and check their ranks, which will play a crucial role during the counselling and seat allotment process.

The KCET 2026 examination was conducted in offline mode from April 22 to April 24 across 745 centres in Karnataka. Around 3,30,479 students appeared for the examination, making it one of the largest entrance tests conducted by a state agency.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the agency is working on a new framework designed to limit human intervention and reduce the risk of leaks by ensuring that even subject experts preparing questions are unaware of the specific examination for which the questions are intended.

Officials familiar with the plan said the question bank could eventually contain around 10,000 questions. Technology-driven systems would then be used to generate final examination papers, minimizing the number of individuals with access to complete question sets.

The move comes as the government seeks to restore confidence in the examination process following allegations surrounding NEET-UG 2026. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had taken moral responsibility for the controversy and was actively working to strengthen the system rather than avoid accountability.

Unlike the original examination, which was held over three days in September 2021, the re-exam is proposed to be conducted in a single day, tentatively on September 20, 2026.

The move comes after the Rajasthan High Court cancelled the earlier examination following revelations related to the paper leak case. While official orders regarding the date are yet to be issued, preparations are underway for the recruitment process for 859 posts.

Out of 3.83 lakh candidates who had appeared in the original examination, only around 1.53 lakh candidates have shown interest in appearing again. More than 2.30 lakh candidates chose not to continue with the process.

Enhanced Security Measures

RPSC has introduced a series of changes aimed at eliminating irregularities during the examination.

Question papers will now reach examination centres only 30 minutes before the start of the exam. Digital lock systems and videography will monitor the movement and opening of paper boxes.

Candidates will be allowed entry into examination centres one hour before the scheduled time. This arrangement ensures that papers arrive only after candidates have entered the premises.

Live photo capture has also been integrated into the One-Time Registration process to prevent dummy candidates and photo tampering. Authorities will match these photographs with video footage recorded during the examination.

New Verification Process

Candidates will be required to provide signatures, thumb impressions and handwriting samples in the presence of invigilators. They will also have to write a sentence on the attendance sheet for verification purposes.

Admit cards will contain watermarks and QR codes carrying the candidate's details, making tampering more difficult.

Another major change is the introduction of a fifth option in OMR sheets. Candidates unwilling to attempt a question must fill this option. Failure to do so may attract negative marking or even disqualification.

Interview Process Modified

RPSC has also introduced a token system for interviews. Under this arrangement, candidates will anonymously select tokens that determine which interview board will assess them.

Officials believe this process will reduce the possibility of bias and ensure fairness.

The SI Recruitment-2021 examination was conducted between September 13 and 15, 2021, after receiving applications from nearly 7.97 lakh candidates. Around 3.83 lakh candidates appeared for the examination.

The final result was declared in June 2023, but the recruitment process later came under scrutiny following allegations of a paper leak. On August 28, 2025, the Rajasthan High Court cancelled the examination.

Several arrests were made in connection with the case, including former RPSC member Ramuram Raika, suspended RPSC member Babulal Katara, and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's former PSO Rajkumar Yadav.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has extended the deadline for applying for verification and re-evaluation of Class 12 board examination answer sheets from June 6 to June 7. The decision was announced after students reported technical issues while accessing the post-result services portal. At the same time, the board has filed an FIR regarding cyberattacks targeting the platform, prompting an investigation by Delhi Police.

CBSE launched its online post-result services portal on June 2 after a brief delay. Since then, many students complained about difficulties in downloading answer sheets and submitting applications. According to board officials, the extension was granted to ensure that students do not lose the opportunity to seek verification or re-evaluation because of technical disruptions.

Officials said the portal had received 70,433 applications by June 4. Of these, 7,314 applications were for verification of marks, while 63,119 were submitted for re-evaluation.

Cyberattack Investigation

According to CBSE, the portal faced continuous cyberattacks beginning June 2. The board said malicious attempts to disrupt services included a Denial of Service (DoS) attack, which generated nearly 1.5 million hits on the website within two minutes.

Officials also reported more than 100,000 unauthorized attempts to access files. However, the board maintained that no evidence of data leakage or unauthorized access has been detected.

Cybersecurity experts from IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, Digital India Corporation, I4C, CERT-In and other central agencies assisted in containing the attacks and maintaining the security of the system.

OSM System Under Scrutiny

The controversy surrounding CBSE has continued since the declaration of Class 12 results on May 13, 2026. This year, the board introduced the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, under which answer sheets were scanned and evaluated digitally to improve transparency and accuracy.

However, several students raised concerns after the results were announced. Many alleged discrepancies in marks and claimed that scanned answer sheets were unclear or not evaluated properly. The Class 12 pass percentage stood at 85.20%, lower than 88.39% recorded in 2025.

The issue gained further attention after Delhi student Vedant Srivastava alleged that he had received another student's Physics answer sheet during the re-evaluation process.
