United India Insurance Company Limited (UIIC) has opened applications for 225 Administrative Officer (Scale I) posts under its 2026 recruitment drive. The vacancies include 200 posts for Generalists and 25 posts for Hindi Officers.

Eligible candidates can apply online from September 8 to September 28, 2026 through the official UIIC recruitment portal. The preliminary examination is tentatively scheduled for October 22, followed by the Tier-II main examination on November 30, 2026. 

225 Administrative Officer vacancies

UIIC's recruitment drive covers two disciplines:

• Administrative Officer – Generalists: 200 posts

• Administrative Officer – Hindi Officers: 25 posts

• Total: 225 posts

The vacancies are provisional, and candidates can apply for either the Generalist or Hindi Officer discipline, not both.

For the Generalist posts, candidates need a graduate or postgraduate degree in any discipline from a recognised university, subject to the marks requirement prescribed in the notification.

The reported eligibility requirement is 60% marks, with the threshold reduced to 55% for SC, ST and PwBD candidates. For Hindi Officer posts, candidates need to meet the prescribed postgraduate qualification involving Hindi and English. 

The age limit is 21 to 30 years, with the relevant cut-off date being June 30, 2026. Applicable relaxation is available to eligible reserved categories as per government rules.

Salary crosses ₹1 lakh

The revised basic pay for Administrative Officer (Scale I) starts at ₹82,485. The pay scale extends to ₹1,56,745, while the approximate gross monthly pay at metropolitan centres is around ₹1.10 lakh, according to recruitment-related details. 

The package also includes applicable benefits such as gratuity, Leave Travel Subsidy, medical benefits, Group Personal Accident Insurance, National Pension System and leased accommodation, subject to company rules. 

Importantly, ₹1.10 lakh is an approximate gross salary at metropolitan centres, not a guaranteed in-hand salary.

Selection process

The State Bank of India (SBI) has invited applications for Specialist Cadre Officer posts on a contractual basis under its Wealth Management and Premier Banking business. The recruitment covers seven categories, including Zonal Head, Regional Head, Relationship Manager-Team Lead, Investment Specialist, Investment Officer, VP Wealth and AVP Wealth.

According to SBI’s official notification, the online application process began on September 4, 2026, and eligible candidates can apply until September 25, 2026. The maximum age for some senior positions is 50 years, while the upper age varies by post. The highest annual Cost to Company (CTC) is ₹97 lakh for Zonal Head (Retail). 

SBI Specialist Officer Recruitment 2026: Vacancy details

The recruitment notification covers the following posts:

The regular vacancies listed in the notification total 257 posts, with additional backlog vacancies shown separately for some categories. SBI has clarified that the vacancies are provisional and may change according to the bank’s requirements.

Salary: CTC up to ₹97 lakh

The remuneration varies substantially depending on the position. SBI has specified the following upper annual CTC ranges:

• Zonal Head: ₹97 lakh

• Regional Head: ₹66.40 lakh

• Relationship Manager-Team Lead: ₹51.80 lakh

• Investment Specialist: ₹44.50 lakh

• Investment Officer: ₹27.10 lakh

• VP Wealth: ₹44.70 lakh

• AVP Wealth: ₹30.20 lakh

The bank has clarified that the annual CTC is negotiable and will depend on the candidate’s experience, current remuneration and place of posting. The CTC figures include fixed pay, performance-linked pay and applicable perks; therefore, they should not be treated as guaranteed take-home salary.

For the Zonal Head position, for example, the maximum fixed pay is ₹66 lakh, while performance-linked pay can range from 0% to 45% of fixed pay.

Educational qualification and experience

The eligibility criteria differ according to the post. Candidates cannot apply solely on the basis of a graduation degree without meeting the relevant experience requirement.

For Zonal Head, graduation from a recognised university is mandatory, while SBI has listed MBA in Banking, Finance or Marketing and certain professional certifications as preferred qualifications. The post requires at least 15 years of relevant experience, including experience leading large relationship-management teams.

For Regional Head, graduation is mandatory and the bank seeks at least 12 years of relevant experience, including experience in leading relationship-management teams.

For VP Wealth, graduation is required along with at least six years of sales and marketing experience in relevant banking, wealth-management or asset-management organisations. For AVP Wealth, the minimum relevant experience is three years.

The Investment Officer post has a more specialised qualification requirement, including a postgraduate degree or diploma in areas such as finance, accountancy, business management, commerce, economics, capital markets, banking, insurance or actuarial science, or qualifications such as CA/CFA. At least four years of relevant post-qualification experience is required.

Age limit up to 50 years

The upper age limit depends on the position. Candidates applying for Zonal Head and Regional Head can be up to 50 years old as of August 31, 2026.

For other posts, the maximum age ranges from 35 to 42 years. SBI has stated that applicable relaxation in the upper age limit will be available to eligible reserved-category candidates according to Government of India guidelines.

Selection process based on interview

Unlike recruitment drives involving written competitive examinations, this SBI Specialist Cadre recruitment will primarily involve shortlisting followed by interview and CTC negotiation.

The official notification states that the selection process consists of shortlisting, followed by one or more personal, telephonic or video interviews and CTC negotiations. The interview carries 100 marks, and the final merit list will be prepared on the basis of interview scores.

Simply meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee an interview call. SBI will decide the shortlisting parameters.

Application fee and important dates

The application fee is ₹750 for UR, EWS and OBC candidates, while SC, ST and PwBD candidates are exempt from the application fee.

The two recruitments together account for 18,177 vacancies, while several other government departments and railway units have also issued recruitment notifications in recent days.

IBPS RRB Recruitment 2026

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection has opened applications for 13,706 posts under the IBPS RRB 2026 recruitment drive.

The vacancies cover positions including Office Assistant (Clerk) and Officer Scale-I, II and III in Regional Rural Banks. The online application process began on September 1, 2026, and candidates can submit their applications until September 21 through the official IBPS recruitment portal. 

The recruitment is aimed at filling positions in Regional Rural Banks across the country. Depending on the post, candidates are required to meet prescribed educational, age and other eligibility conditions. Knowledge of the relevant local language may also be required for certain positions.

The selection process varies according to the post and can include preliminary examinations, main examinations and interviews.

Southern Railway has 4,471 Apprentice vacancies

Southern Railway has announced 4,471 Act Apprentice vacancies across different divisions, workshops and units.

The recruitment is particularly relevant for candidates who have completed Class 10 and hold the required ITI qualification for the relevant trade. The notification also includes vacancies for freshers in specified categories. 

The application process began on August 28 and will remain open until September 27, 2026.

The apprenticeship recruitment covers multiple trades and locations under Southern Railway. Candidates should check the official notification for the specific trade-wise educational requirements, age conditions, reservation provisions and other eligibility rules before applying.

Railway recruitment adds more opportunities

Southern Railway's 4,471-post recruitment is not the only railway opening available to job seekers.

The Railway Recruitment Board has also issued a recruitment notification for Junior Engineer and related technical posts, with more than 4,000 vacancies listed in the current recruitment cycle. The application deadline for that recruitment is September 13, 2026. 

Other railway units have also announced apprentice and other positions, making the sector one of the major sources of government recruitment opportunities currently available.

Candidates should be careful, however, not to treat every railway vacancy as a single nationwide recruitment drive. Different Railway Recruitment Boards, Railway Recruitment Cells and railway zones issue separate notifications with their own eligibility requirements and application deadlines.

Who should apply?

The current openings cover candidates with different educational backgrounds.

Graduates looking for banking-sector jobs can consider the IBPS RRB recruitment, subject to the eligibility requirements of the particular post. Candidates with Class 10 and ITI qualifications may find the Southern Railway Apprentice recruitment more relevant.

Those applying for technical railway positions such as Junior Engineer posts need to meet the prescribed diploma or engineering qualifications.

Because eligibility differs considerably between recruitments, applicants should check the original notification before submitting an application rather than relying only on social media posts or job-alert summaries.

Check deadlines before applying

With several recruitment processes running simultaneously, candidates should keep track of the last date for each application.

The large number of vacancies offers opportunities to thousands of aspirants, but selection will depend on the eligibility criteria and recruitment process prescribed for each post. Candidates are therefore advised to read the official notification carefully before paying any application fee or submitting the form.

Concerns that artificial intelligence will rapidly destroy large numbers of jobs are facing a more complicated reality in the US labour market. The country added 162,000 non-farm jobs in August, while the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.1%, according to the latest report from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

The August employment increase came as a stronger-than-expected reading for the labour market, although the figures do not by themselves establish that artificial intelligence was responsible for the new jobs. Employment gains were concentrated in areas including food services and drinking places and local government education, while the information industry recorded job losses, according to the BLS. 

The figures nevertheless add to a broader debate about whether AI will primarily eliminate employment or reshape the types of work available to people.

US unemployment stays at 4.1%

The unemployment rate remained at 4.1% in August. BLS data also showed that the civilian labour force increased by 683,000, while the number of employed people rose by 569,000 on the household-survey measure. The labour force participation rate stood at 61.6%. 

The latest numbers do not mean the US employment market is immune to technological disruption. Instead, they indicate that the expected transformation of work is not necessarily translating into an immediate collapse in overall employment.

AI is already changing tasks within many occupations, particularly in technology, data analysis, customer service and other knowledge-intensive fields. But employment effects can emerge through several channels, including the creation of new roles, changes in productivity and demand for workers who can operate or maintain AI-enabled systems.

AI is creating demand for new kinds of work

The rapid expansion of AI infrastructure has itself created demand for workers in areas such as data-centre construction, electrical systems, equipment installation, maintenance and specialised technology services.

Some of these jobs are not traditionally classified as “AI jobs”, even though they are being supported by the investment required to build and operate AI infrastructure.

This distinction is important. An AI boom does not necessarily mean millions of people suddenly become software engineers. The economic impact can spread into construction, energy, manufacturing, logistics, engineering and maintenance.

At the same time, higher demand for specialised workers can translate into stronger wages in particular segments of the economy.

Global job forecasts show disruption, not simply job destruction

The longer-term picture is also more complicated than the idea that AI will simply eliminate employment.

The World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025 projects that technological, economic and demographic changes could create 170 million jobs globally by 2030 while displacing 92 million, resulting in a net increase of 78 million jobs. The report specifically identifies AI, big data and other technology-related roles among the areas expected to see strong growth. 

These are projections based on employer expectations and broader labour-market trends, not guarantees. They also do not mean that workers whose existing jobs disappear will automatically move into newly created positions.

The difficult part will be the transition.

India also sees stronger demand for technology skills

The changing global employment landscape has implications for India, particularly its large IT and technology-services workforce.

Demand for AI, data, cloud computing and other technology skills is increasingly influencing recruitment patterns. At the same time, traditional IT services roles are being reshaped as companies incorporate automation and generative AI into software development and business processes.

This means India's employment challenge may not simply be about creating more jobs. It may increasingly involve ensuring that workers have the skills required for jobs that are being created.

For companies, AI can increase productivity while creating demand for specialised talent. For workers, however, the transition can be disruptive when existing skills become less valuable faster than new skills can be acquired.

AI has not ended the job-loss debate

The latest US jobs report should therefore not be interpreted as proof that AI cannot destroy jobs.

The BLS figures measure overall employment and unemployment; they do not isolate the effect of artificial intelligence. Indeed, the August report showed that employment in the information industry declined even as total non-farm employment increased.

What the numbers do demonstrate is that the relationship between AI and employment is unlikely to be a simple equation of automation equals mass unemployment.

New technologies can eliminate certain tasks, reduce demand for some occupations, increase productivity and simultaneously create demand for entirely different types of work.

The real test for the global labour market will be whether workers can move through that transition quickly enough.

For now, the US employment figures offer no evidence of an AI-driven jobs collapse. They instead point to a labour market where technological disruption and job creation are occurring at the same time—and where the biggest challenge may be determining who benefits from the new economy and who gets left behind.

The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) conducted the Uttar Pradesh Technical Education (Teaching) Service Examination-2025 across 52 centres in Lucknow on Sunday, with thousands of candidates appearing for the recruitment examination.

The examination was conducted in two shifts, and more than 22,000 candidates were expected to participate. The exam is being held for recruitment under the Technical Education Department.

The UPPSC had made arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the examination. Security personnel, including sub-inspectors, head constables, constables and women police personnel, were deployed at examination centres.

Police officials also monitored movement around the centres, with Assistant Commissioners of Police and station house officers overseeing arrangements in their respective areas. Traffic personnel were deployed near railway stations, bus stations, metro stations and examination locations to manage candidate movement.

Candidates were required to follow strict examination guidelines. Mobile phones, smartwatches and other electronic devices were prohibited inside the examination halls to prevent unfair practices.

Many candidates reached their centres early for document verification and entry procedures. Several locations witnessed queues as aspirants arrived ahead of the scheduled examination timings.

The UPPSC has also issued notices related to admit cards and examination arrangements for the Technical Education (Teaching) Service Examination-2025 through its official website.

The examination is part of the state recruitment process for technical education teaching posts, including positions in government technical institutions

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday extended support to protesting students in Maharashtra, saying their concerns reflected a wider loss of trust in the system and questioning the BJP-led government’s handling of issues related to examinations and recruitment.

Gandhi said thousands of students were protesting over concerns including alleged paper leaks, delays in recruitment processes and rising education-related costs. He claimed that repeated problems had affected the confidence of young candidates preparing for government examinations.

The Congress leader criticised the functioning of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC), alleging that the credibility of recruitment systems had been affected. He called on the government to listen to students and take steps to address their concerns.

The protests have centred around allegations of irregularities in competitive examinations and demands for greater transparency in recruitment processes. Authorities have said that examination systems are being reviewed to improve security and reliability.

Gandhi also raised broader issues related to student welfare, including recruitment delays, education expenses, hostel facilities and other challenges faced by young people.

The BJP-led government has faced criticism from opposition parties over examination-related concerns, while officials have maintained that steps are being taken to strengthen the recruitment process and prevent malpractices.

The Maharashtra government has constituted a high-level committee to examine the recruitment examination system and suggest measures to make it more transparent and candidate-friendly. The panel is expected to take feedback from students, parents, educators and other stakeholders.

The issue has become a political flashpoint, with the Congress presenting the student protests as a sign of dissatisfaction among young people, while the government faces pressure to ensure confidence in competitive examination procedures.

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya has directed officials to adopt a zero-tolerance approach against fake, substandard and illegally sold medicines, stressing that strict legal action should be taken against those putting public health at risk.The minister issued the directions during a high-level review meeting at the Gujarat Secretariat, where the enforcement activities of the state's Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) were reviewed.During the meeting, officials presented details of regulatory action taken after inspections conducted across the state.According to the review, the FDCA cancelled the sales licences of 50 medicine shops after significant irregularities were found during inspections. The department also ordered the closure of two drug manufacturing units, suspended licences of eight manufacturers and revoked manufacturing licences of 11 medicines.

Minister warns against compromising patient safety

Pansheriya said the government would not compromise on the health and safety of citizens.He directed the FDCA to maintain strict monitoring of medicine manufacturers, distributors and sellers and ensure that action is taken against those involved in illegal practices.The minister's comments come amid increased regulatory focus on counterfeit, substandard and unauthorised medicines, where authorities have been conducting inspections and taking action against violations.

FDCA steps up inspections

The Food and Drug Control Administration carries out inspections of pharmaceutical units, medical stores and supply chains to check compliance with drug safety regulations.Officials review issues including manufacturing practices, storage conditions, sale records, licences and the authenticity of medicines.Recent enforcement actions in Gujarat have included seizure of suspected medicines, suspension of licences and investigations into firms allegedly involved in irregular sales or manufacturing practices.
