The convenience of ten-minute delivery has met its match. Platforms like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and Zepto reported that stocks of induction cooktops were wiped out within hours on Thursday.

An industry executive noted that while quick commerce usually sees steady sales for small gadgets, the current 10x surge has been unprecedented. Even BigBasket, the Tata Group’s e-commerce giant, recorded a five-fold increase in sales, forcing them to triple their monthly forecasts overnight.

Why the Sudden Shift to Electric?

The rush isn't just about modernizing kitchens; it’s a survival tactic. Reports of a looming gas supply disruption have turned induction cooktops from "optional gadgets" into "essential backups."

• Black Market Prices: In states like Bihar, domestic LPG cylinders are reportedly being sold for up to ₹1,800 in the black market.

• Commercial Crisis: In Madhya Pradesh, 19kg commercial cylinders have hit a staggering ₹4,000, forcing restaurants and hotels to pivot to industrial-grade electric induction systems.
