Ramalinga Reddy quits the newly formed DK Shivakumar cabinet after being denied the Bengaluru Development portfolio; Chief Minister says the matter will be resolved.

In a significant development, Karnataka minister Ramalinga Reddy resigned from Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar's three-day-old cabinet on Friday, expressing dissatisfaction over the departments assigned to him. The resignation came just a day after the state government announced the distribution of portfolios among ministers.

Reddy, a veteran Congress leader and MLA from BTM Layout, had reportedly sought the Bengaluru Development Department but was instead allocated the Water Resources Department. The Bengaluru Development portfolio is considered one of the most influential departments in the state, overseeing infrastructure and urban planning projects in the capital city.

Disagreement Over Portfolio Allocation

Speaking to reporters, Reddy clarified that his resignation was limited to the ministerial post and did not signal a departure from the Congress party.

The 72-year-old leader stated that he had served under several chief ministers during his long political career and had never sought ministerial positions for personal gain. He emphasized that he would continue to serve as a legislator and remained committed to the party.

According to reports, Reddy was unhappy with the final portfolio allocation and raised the issue during the first cabinet meeting held on Thursday.

Chief Minister Seeks Resolution

Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar sought to downplay the crisis, saying there was no reason for concern and that discussions would be held with Reddy to address his grievances.

Shivakumar explained that Reddy's concern was linked to the nature of the Water Resources Department, which requires extensive travel across the state. The Chief Minister indicated that the senior leader preferred a department that would allow him to focus more on Bengaluru-related issues.

Officials close to the government suggested that efforts were underway to persuade Reddy to withdraw his resignation and remain in the cabinet.

Cabinet Portfolios Announced

The portfolio allocation notification issued by the state government assigned key departments to several senior Congress leaders.

Among the notable appointments, Priyank Kharge was given the Home Department (excluding Intelligence), along with Information Technology and Biotechnology. Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara received Revenue and Sports, while Satish Jarkiholi was assigned Public Works.

Chief Minister Shivakumar retained several crucial portfolios, including Finance, Cabinet Affairs, Personnel and Administrative Reforms, and Intelligence.

Senior Leaders Included

The cabinet expansion also drew attention because of the inclusion of prominent political figures and family members of senior Congress leaders.

Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, was allotted the Urban Development Department.
Petrol, Diesel Prices Rise Again as Fuel Costs Surge Nationwide

Petrol becomes costlier by 87 paise and diesel by 91 paise as oil companies hike rates for third time within nine days

Fuel prices have increased once again across the country, adding further burden on consumers already dealing with rising household expenses. Petrol and diesel rates were revised upward on Saturday for the third time within nine days, with petrol becoming costlier by 87 paise per litre and diesel by 91 paise per litre.

In Bhopal, petrol prices have now reached Rs 111.71 per litre after the latest revision, while diesel prices have also recorded a significant jump. Similar increases have been reported across several cities in Madhya Pradesh and other states. The repeated hikes in fuel prices this month have triggered concerns among transport operators, businesses, and common consumers, making it one of the major Government Updates and Trending News India developments.

Third Hike in Nine Days

Petroleum companies have revised fuel prices three times during May, leading to a sharp rise in overall fuel costs. The first major increase came on May 15 when petrol and diesel prices were raised by nearly Rs 3 per litre. A second hike followed on May 19, when rates increased by around 90 paise per litre.

With Saturday’s revision, fuel prices have now increased by nearly Rs 5 per litre during the current month. Consumers in several cities said the continuous rise is affecting monthly budgets, transportation costs, and daily commuting expenses.

Crude Oil Prices Behind Increase

Officials and market analysts said the primary reason behind the latest increase is the sharp rise in international crude oil prices. Before tensions escalated between Iran and the United States, crude oil prices were hovering around 70 dollars per barrel. However, global crude rates have now crossed the 100-dollar mark in the international market. The increase in global oil prices has reportedly placed heavy financial pressure on Indian oil marketing companies. Industry experts indicated that if crude prices continue to remain high for an extended period, further increases in petrol and diesel prices cannot be ruled out in the coming weeks.

Oil Companies Under Pressure

According to government estimates, public sector oil companies have been facing major financial losses because of high crude prices and controlled retail fuel pricing. Officials stated that Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited were incurring significant losses on fuel and LPG sales. Petroleum Ministry officials estimated that state-run oil companies were collectively losing nearly Rs 30,000 crore every month due to rising import costs. The latest price revision is being viewed as an attempt to reduce some of the financial burden faced by these companies.

How Fuel Prices Are Decided

Fuel prices in India are linked to international crude oil prices and the value of the rupee against the US dollar. Under the dynamic pricing system, oil companies revise petrol and diesel rates daily at 6 am based on global market trends and average crude costs over a specific period. The final retail price paid by consumers includes several components beyond the base price of crude oil. These include refinery charges, transportation expenses, dealer commissions, central excise duty, road cess, and state-level VAT. Since different states impose different tax rates, fuel prices vary from city to city across India.

Taxes Increase Retail Rates

Experts explain that the actual retail price of petrol and diesel becomes several times higher than the base cost due to taxes and additional charges. After crude oil is imported, it undergoes refining before being supplied to fuel stations. Costs related to refining and company margins are added during this stage. The central government then imposes excise duty and road cess, which remain largely uniform across the country. Finally, state governments levy Value Added Tax or local sales tax, which differs from state to state. This is why fuel prices in cities like Bhopal, Indore, Delhi, and Jabalpur remain different despite similar crude oil costs.

Prices Were Stable Since 2024

Fuel prices had remained largely unchanged since March 2024. Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the government had reduced petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2 per litre, providing temporary relief to consumers. Although fuel prices in India are technically deregulated and oil companies can revise them regularly based on international crude trends, political and economic considerations often influence the timing of revisions. The latest hikes, however, suggest growing pressure on oil companies amid sustained increases in global energy prices.

Impact on Common Citizens

The fresh increase in petrol and diesel prices is expected to impact transportation costs, food prices, and overall inflation in the coming weeks. Transport operators and small business owners said rising fuel expenses may increase freight charges and operational costs. Daily commuters are also expected to face higher expenses as auto-rickshaw, cab, and public transport fares could witness revision if fuel prices continue to rise. Economic experts believe prolonged increases in global crude oil rates may continue affecting domestic fuel prices and household spending patterns across the country.

A government school teacher in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa allegedly attempted suicide for the second time within two days after claiming that no action had been taken on his complaints against a police officer and a local journalist. The incident has triggered fresh concerns over alleged police harassment, administrative apathy, and mental distress linked to disputed criminal cases.

Second Suicide Attempt

Government teacher Anil Kumar Tiwari, posted at CM Rise Government Higher Secondary School in Lalgaon, consumed poison on Friday after reportedly learning that no legal action had been initiated against the accused persons named in his earlier complaint. According to family members, Tiwari had earlier slit his wrist on May 21 and was admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa. Relatives claimed that after regaining consciousness, he repeatedly asked whether authorities had acted on his allegations. When he was informed that no action had yet been taken, the teacher allegedly consumed poison in frustration. Doctors at the hospital said his condition remains serious.

Harassment Allegations Surface

In a five-page suicide note recovered after the first attempt, Tiwari reportedly accused University Police Station in-charge Hitendra Sharma and local journalist Nishant Mishra, also known as Ankit, of mental harassment and falsely implicating him in a criminal case. The teacher claimed that he, his brother, and his son were dragged into an “illegal case” despite having committed no offence. He alleged that the police officer acted under pressure and damaged his 28-year service record. The note further demanded an investigation into alleged communication between the accused persons and police officials.

Family Raises Questions

Tiwari’s brother, Dhirendra Kumar Tiwari, alleged that the teacher was discharged from hospital despite being in a critical condition. He also claimed that the accused persons continued to threaten the family after the first suicide attempt. According to relatives, villagers informed them that some individuals had openly stated that the teacher “would not be spared” if he survived. The family has accused the administration and local police of failing to provide protection despite repeated complaints.

Dispute Over Tree

The teacher’s son claimed that the dispute began after a green tree standing on the family’s land was allegedly cut without permission by members of the Mishra family. When the family objected, tensions escalated and a police complaint was allegedly lodged against Tiwari and his relatives. The son alleged that his father became mentally disturbed after the case was registered and felt publicly humiliated. Family members said the teacher had been under severe emotional pressure in recent weeks.

Threat Claims Mentioned

In the suicide note, Tiwari also alleged that a member of the accused family serving in the armed forces had threatened to shoot him during a phone conversation on May 15. He appealed for a high-level probe, including a possible CBI investigation, and sought intervention from the Prime Minister, Union Home Ministry, and the National Human Rights Commission. The note reflected his growing frustration with both the police and district administration.

Administration Under Scrutiny

The matter has put local authorities under public scrutiny in Rewa district. Tiwari also expressed disappointment with district officials, including the Collector, claiming that his professional record and years of service were ignored while action was taken against him.

The case has sparked debate over the handling of complaints involving government employees and the psychological impact of prolonged legal and administrative disputes. Legal experts say allegations involving police misconduct and intimidation require impartial investigation to ensure public trust in the justice system.

Earlier, members of the teacher’s family had submitted a written complaint to Superintendent of Police Gurukaran Singh. According to officials, the family alleged that the teacher was distressed due to “one-sided action” and the failure of police to hear his side of the matter. The SP had stated that the allegations would be examined and legal action would follow based on the findings of the inquiry. As of Friday evening, no official confirmation had been issued regarding any FIR or departmental action against the accused individuals named in the suicide note.

MP Government Faces Challenge in Filling ADM Posts Across Districts

Around 20 districts in Madhya Pradesh reportedly functioning without full-time Additional Collectors as young state administrative officers seek field postings

The Madhya Pradesh government is facing criticism over delays in appointing senior State Administrative Service officers to key field positions, with nearly 20 districts reportedly operating without regularly posted Additional District Magistrates (ADMs). The prolonged imbalance in administrative postings has also triggered dissatisfaction among younger officers, many of whom are currently assigned desk roles in the state secretariat instead of field responsibilities.

Officials and administrative sources said the disruption in posting arrangements began before the Lok Sabha elections and has continued despite changes in administrative priorities.

ADM Posts Remain Vacant

Several districts across Madhya Pradesh are reportedly functioning without full-time Additional Collectors, forcing collectors to manage responsibilities through additional charge arrangements. Administrative sources indicated that major districts including Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur currently have vacant ADM positions despite multiple sanctioned posts in these cities. The situation has raised concerns about administrative efficiency, especially in districts handling large populations and high governance workloads.

Impact On District Administration

Officials familiar with district-level functioning said vacant ADM posts increase pressure on collectors and existing officers, affecting day-to-day administrative coordination. Additional Collectors are responsible for handling revenue matters, law and order coordination, election duties and implementation of government schemes. In the absence of regular appointments, many districts are depending on temporary arrangements and additional responsibilities assigned to available officers. Sources said the shortage is impacting both decision-making speed and monitoring of administrative work in some districts.

Young Officers Seek Opportunity

A section of State Administrative Service officers has expressed dissatisfaction over the current posting pattern. Many newly recruited and junior officers are presently serving as under secretaries, OSDs and desk officers in the ministry and departmental headquarters. According to officials, several young officers believe the government is not fully utilising their administrative capabilities by keeping them away from field assignments. They argue that junior officers should be given opportunities to work as Deputy Collectors, SDMs, Joint Collectors and Additional Collectors to gain practical administrative experience.

SDM-Level Posts Also Affected

The issue is not limited to ADM positions. Administrative sources said several sanctioned posts in the Joint Collector and SDM cadre also remain unfilled in different districts. Joint Collectors and SDMs play a crucial role in maintaining local administration, handling public grievances and coordinating revenue and law-and-order duties at the sub-divisional level. Officers said delays in these postings are affecting administrative continuity and increasing workload on existing field officials.

IAS Officers Preferred In Some Roles

Sources within the administrative setup indicated that several positions traditionally assigned to State Administrative Service officers, including Chief Executive Officer posts in district panchayats, are increasingly being handled by young IAS officers. This has added to concerns among state cadre officers, who feel their promotion opportunities and field exposure are being reduced. Some officers argued that experienced senior officials currently posted in ministries could instead be assigned desk responsibilities, allowing younger officers to take up district-level roles.

Vacancies Reported In Multiple Districts

Districts where ADM posts are reportedly vacant include Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Narmadapuram, Sehore, Shajapur, Barwani, Burhanpur, Gwalior, Chhatarpur, Niwari and Indore, among others. Officials said the absence of regular postings in these districts has forced collectors to operate administrative systems through additional charges and temporary arrangements. The issue has also sparked internal discussion within administrative circles over manpower distribution and career progression opportunities for state service officers.

Many young officers selected through the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission are still posted in ministry offices instead of districts, according to administrative sources. Some officers believe earlier restrictions related to election duties and administrative exercises were cited as reasons for delaying transfers and field postings. However, they argue that such reasons no longer apply and appointments should now be regularised.

In a unique administrative outreach initiative, Rewa Collector Narendra Kumar Suryavanshi travelled to Tikuri village in Gangev Janpad Panchayat along with 42 departmental officers in a non-AC bus to conduct a gram chaupal and review public grievances directly on the ground. After reaching the village, the collector asked all officers to sit on the ground among villagers while listening to complaints related to revenue, roads, drinking water, housing schemes and anganwadi services.

Officials said the initiative aimed to strengthen direct communication between the administration and rural residents while ensuring faster resolution of local problems. The event quickly became part of the Latest News Today discussions in Madhya Pradesh because of the collector’s unusual field-level administrative approach.

Revenue Cases Reviewed

During the chaupal organised in the gram panchayat premises, villagers raised several issues connected to land demarcation, road access and government welfare schemes. While reviewing pending revenue cases, the collector expressed displeasure over delays in land demarcation work. He directed officials to issue a notice to the concerned naib tehsildar for negligence.

Officials said complaints related to land disputes and delayed administrative processes were among the major concerns raised by villagers during the public interaction. The collector instructed revenue officers to conduct special camps in the village to ensure timely disposal of pending cases and reduce repeated visits by villagers to government offices.

Anganwadi Staff Face Action

Serious concerns were also raised regarding irregular functioning of the local anganwadi centre. Villagers complained that the centre was not operating regularly, affecting services meant for women and children. Taking the matter seriously, the collector directed authorities to suspend the concerned supervisor and issue a show-cause notice to the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO). Officials present during the meeting were instructed to ensure regular monitoring of anganwadi centres and timely delivery of nutritional and welfare services in rural areas. The administration stated that accountability at the grassroots level remains a priority under district governance reforms.

Road And Water Issues

Villagers also highlighted disputes related to village pathways and the problem of narrow roads in the area. The collector instructed concerned departments to begin the process for road widening and immediate resolution of access-related disputes.

During the review of water-related issues, irregularities were reportedly found in the implementation of the Nal-Jal Yojana. Following complaints of negligence, the collector ordered notices to be issued to the Public Health Engineering sub-engineer and the local employment assistant. The sarpanch and Janpad Panchayat CEO were directed to ensure early execution of the drinking water scheme. Villagers also agreed to pay water user charges to support regular supply and maintenance.

Housing Scheme Under Review

The collector also reviewed the progress of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in the village. Officials informed him that some beneficiaries had still not started construction work despite receiving approvals. Suryavanshi instructed authorities to cancel housing allotments of beneficiaries who failed to begin construction within the prescribed time. He stated that welfare schemes must reach eligible beneficiaries without unnecessary delays and warned officials against negligence in implementation. The administration also reviewed progress under other welfare initiatives linked to rural employment and financial assistance.

Electricity And Loan Directives

During the chaupal, the electricity department was instructed to begin the process of installing household electricity meters in the village at the earliest. Officials were also directed to expedite loan approval procedures for eligible beneficiaries under the Tantya Mama Scheme. The collector stressed that government schemes should deliver visible benefits at the grassroots level and directed departments to coordinate more effectively during field implementation. District and block-level officers, including District Panchayat CEO Mehtab Singh Gurjar and Janpad CEO Prachi Chaturvedi, were present during the programme.

Petrol And Diesel Prices Rise Again By 90 Paise Per Litre

Fuel prices increased for the second time within five days as Chhindwara imposed sales limits and Ujjain religious event promoted fuel conservation.

Petrol and diesel prices increased by 90 paise per litre across the country from Tuesday, marking the second fuel price hike within less than a week. Earlier on May 15, oil companies had already raised prices by ₹3 per litre for both petrol and diesel.

Following the latest revision, petrol prices in Bhopal reached ₹110.75 per litre, while diesel climbed to ₹95.91 per litre. In Indore and Jabalpur, petrol prices increased to ₹110.79 per litre, while Gwalior recorded ₹110.69 per litre. Ujjain registered the highest petrol price among major cities in Madhya Pradesh at ₹111.27 per litre. Diesel prices also witnessed a fresh jump, touching ₹96.40 per litre in Ujjain. In Indore, diesel reached ₹95.97 per litre, while Jabalpur recorded ₹95.98 and Gwalior ₹95.86 per litre. The fuel price rise quickly became part of the Latest News Today developments due to its expected impact on transportation, agriculture and household expenses.

Chhindwara Imposes Fuel Limit

Amid concerns over fuel availability and increasing pressure on supply, petrol pumps in Chhindwara have introduced restrictions on fuel sales. Dealers have reportedly been instructed not to provide petrol or diesel beyond a fixed limit to consumers.

Under the current restrictions, two-wheelers are being supplied fuel worth only ₹200, while small cars are limited to ₹500 worth of petrol. Larger vehicles are reportedly being allowed a maximum of 50 litres of petrol and 200 litres of diesel. Sources said oil companies issued verbal instructions to dealers and have started strict online monitoring of stock levels and fuel sales at petrol pumps. Officials warned that if pumps exceed the prescribed fuel limit, dispensing machines could be locked immediately by the companies.

Supply Under Monitoring

Petrol pump operators stated that fresh fuel tankers are being dispatched only when existing stock reaches near depletion levels. In several locations, consumers are reportedly receiving fuel equivalent to nearly 25 percent of vehicle tank capacity.

The monitoring mechanism has intensified after rising crude oil prices increased operational pressure on oil marketing companies. Dealers indicated that authorities are attempting to prevent panic buying and ensure controlled distribution of available fuel stock until supply conditions stabilise. The restrictions in Chhindwara have raised concerns among commuters, transport operators and traders dependent on daily fuel consumption.

Ujjain Promotes Fuel Saving

Amid rising fuel prices, a religious gathering in Ujjain also promoted fuel conservation and responsible consumption. During a Shrimad Bhagwat Katha programme, devotees were asked to pledge reduced use of petrol and diesel vehicles.

National saint Dr Santosh Maharaj from Amravati urged followers to avoid using petrol and diesel vehicles for at least one day every week or month. He encouraged greater use of e-scooters, e-rickshaws and bicycles to reduce fuel dependence and support environmental protection. The event was organised at Sant Leelashah Convent Higher Secondary School in Ujjain, where devotees also took a pledge to avoid purchasing gold for one year. Organisers linked the initiative to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal encouraging cautious use of petroleum products.

Daily Life May Get Costlier

Experts believe the latest fuel price hike could increase transportation and commodity costs in the coming weeks. Freight charges for trucks and commercial transport vehicles are expected to rise, potentially making vegetables, fruits and essential goods more expensive.

Agricultural costs may also increase because tractors, irrigation pumps and transport vehicles depend heavily on diesel. Economists warn that rising fuel prices could eventually affect food prices and rural production costs. Public transport fares, including buses, school transport and auto-rickshaws, may also witness upward revision if fuel prices remain elevated for a prolonged period. The issue has emerged as a major Public Interest Story because of its widespread economic impact on households and businesses.

Crude Oil Prices Behind Hike

According to officials, the latest fuel price increase has been triggered primarily by rising crude oil prices in the international market. Before escalating tensions involving Iran and the United States, crude oil prices were reportedly around 70 dollars per barrel. However, global crude prices have now crossed the 100-dollar-per-barrel mark, increasing pressure on oil marketing companies. Government officials stated that public sector oil companies including Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum were facing heavy financial losses because of rising import costs. Petroleum Ministry Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma reportedly said oil companies were losing nearly ₹30,000 crore every month on the sale of petrol, diesel and LPG.

Raipur Begins Process To Declare Child Marriage-Free Panchayats

Administration proposes 332 gram panchayats and eight urban bodies for child marriage-free status; objections can be submitted till May 28.

The Raipur district administration has started the process of declaring gram panchayats and urban local bodies as child marriage-free zones under a special initiative led by the Women and Child Development Department. Authorities said the move aims to strengthen awareness and enforcement against child marriage while encouraging local bodies to maintain zero reported cases.

According to official information, gram panchayats and urban bodies where no child marriage cases have been reported in the last two years are being considered for recognition under the campaign. The initiative has emerged as an important Public Interest Story linked to child welfare and social awareness in Chhattisgarh.

Hundreds Of Panchayats Proposed

Officials said that out of 408 gram panchayats in Raipur district, as many as 332 gram panchayats have recommended themselves for declaration as child marriage-free. Along with this, eight urban local bodies out of the district’s total 11 urban bodies have also been proposed for the status. The concerned gram panchayats and urban bodies have reportedly submitted certifications stating that no child marriage incidents were recorded within their jurisdiction during the previous two years. The district administration is now carrying out the verification and objection process before issuing the final declaration.

Verification Process Begins

As part of the administrative procedure, the proposed list of gram panchayats and urban local bodies has been made available for public review at the Collector’s office in Raipur and offices of the Women and Child Development Department. Authorities stated that citizens can examine the list at various project offices, including Arang, Abhanpur, Dharsiwa-01, Dharsiwa-02, Raipur Urban-01, Raipur Urban-02, Tilda and Mandir Hasaud. Officials said the review process is intended to ensure transparency and public participation before the final recognition is granted. The development became part of the Latest News Today updates in Chhattisgarh as the administration pushed social reform initiatives at the grassroots level.

Objections Invited

The Women and Child Development Department has invited objections, suggestions and claims from individuals, social organisations and institutions regarding the proposed list. Authorities clarified that if any person has information about child marriage incidents in the proposed areas, they can submit a written objection along with supporting documents. The administration has fixed May 18 to May 28, 2026 as the period for filing claims and objections. Applications must be submitted to the District Programme Officer at the Women and Child Development Office in Raipur. Officials said all objections and supporting evidence will be examined carefully before any gram panchayat or urban body is officially declared child marriage-free.

Focus On Social Awareness

The initiative is being seen as part of broader efforts to curb child marriage and improve awareness regarding child rights and girls’ education in rural and urban areas. Government officials stated that local administrations, anganwadi workers, women self-help groups and community organisations have played a key role in monitoring and reporting child marriage cases in villages and towns. According to department officials, increased awareness campaigns and community participation have helped reduce instances of child marriage in several regions of Chhattisgarh over recent years. Authorities believe that officially recognising child marriage-free panchayats could encourage more villages to actively participate in prevention efforts and social awareness programmes.

Monitoring And Accountability

Officials indicated that the declaration process also aims to create accountability at the local governance level. Gram panchayats and urban bodies receiving recognition are expected to continue monitoring vulnerable households and ensure that underage marriages do not take place in their areas.

The administration may also conduct periodic reviews even after granting the status to verify whether local bodies continue to remain free from child marriage cases. Social welfare officials said community-level vigilance remains essential because child marriages are often conducted secretly in remote areas or during social functions. The campaign has drawn attention as part of wider Government Updates focused on women and child welfare schemes in the state.

The district administration stated that the final list of child marriage-free gram panchayats and urban bodies will be released only after completion of the objection review process. Officials said recognition would be granted to only those local bodies against which no valid objections or complaints are found during scrutiny. Authorities also appealed to citizens and organisations to cooperate with the administration by sharing accurate information during the verification process.

Chhattisgarh Launches Major Tribal Outreach Drive Across 8,000 Villages

Officers will visit remote tribal villages from May 18 under a statewide campaign aimed at delivering ration, pension, healthcare and welfare services directly to beneficiaries.

The Goverment of Chhattisgarh is set to launch a large-scale tribal outreach campaign across remote regions of the state from May 18 to May 25 with the objective of ensuring direct delivery of government schemes and welfare services to tribal communities. Under the campaign titled “Jan Bhagidari – Sabse Door, Sabse Pehle,” government officials will travel to thousands of villages to address public grievances, organise service camps and provide immediate assistance related to health, ration, pensions and other welfare schemes.

Officials said the initiative is being coordinated by the Tribal Development Department and will cover nearly 8,235 villages across Chhattisgarh. These include 1,544 villages identified under the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) and 6,691 villages under the Dharati Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan. The campaign will be conducted in almost all districts of the state except Raipur.

According to government officials, the programme has been designed to improve administrative outreach in geographically remote tribal areas where access to government services remains limited. Senior officers from different departments have been directed to visit villages personally, interact with local residents and ensure eligible beneficiaries receive the benefits of central and state welfare schemes without unnecessary delays.

One of the key focus areas of the campaign will be healthcare services in tribal regions. Health camps will be organised in villages where medical teams will conduct free check-ups and screening for diseases such as sickle cell anaemia and tuberculosis, which have been identified as major health concerns in tribal communities. Officials said treatment support and awareness programmes will also be conducted during the camps to improve healthcare accessibility in remote areas.

Apart from healthcare, the campaign will also focus on ensuring access to essential welfare schemes linked to ration distribution, pensions, nutrition, drinking water and education. Authorities said eligible beneficiaries will be identified on the spot and assistance related to pension approvals, ration cards and social security schemes will be provided wherever possible. The government aims to reduce delays in welfare delivery by resolving smaller administrative issues directly at the village level.

As part of the initiative, “Aadi Seva Kendras” will be established in villages and outreach locations to function as grievance redressal centres. Through these centres, villagers will be able to submit complaints and seek help related to government schemes without visiting district offices or government departments repeatedly. Officials stated that the objective is to make governance more accessible for tribal communities living in isolated areas.

The state government has instructed officers to conduct public interaction sessions and village chaupal meetings during the campaign period. Senior administrative officials are expected to directly listen to public grievances, monitor local problems and coordinate with departments for quick resolution of issues. Government sources said the initiative has been planned to strengthen trust between tribal communities and the administration by increasing physical presence of officials in remote locations.

Authorities have also introduced a digital monitoring system for the campaign. Officials participating in the outreach programme will be required to upload daily reports, photographs, videos and beneficiary feedback on the “Aadi Prasaran” portal. The digital tracking mechanism is expected to help monitor field activities and assess implementation progress across districts on a real-time basis.

Government officials stated that several social and community-based organisations will also participate in the campaign. Instructions have been issued to involve public representatives, women self-help groups, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets and local social organisations in awareness activities and outreach programmes. Officials believe community participation will improve the effectiveness of welfare delivery and help identify local challenges more efficiently.

The campaign is also being linked with programmes such as “Sushasan Tihar” and “Janjatiya Garima Utsav” to increase awareness about tribal welfare schemes and government initiatives. Administrative officials said the broader objective is to improve governance access in tribal regions while ensuring that central and state-sponsored schemes reach intended beneficiaries at the grassroots level.

Tribal-dominated regions of Chhattisgarh have historically faced challenges related to infrastructure, healthcare accessibility and administrative connectivity. Officials believe the latest outreach drive could help bridge the gap between government departments and residents of remote villages by bringing welfare services directly to their doorstep.

The countdown for Swachh Survekshan 2025-26 has begun in Bhopal, with the municipal corporation accelerating cleanliness and beautification work across the city ahead of the expected arrival of the survey team within the next two to three days. Civic authorities have intensified on-ground preparations to improve the city’s appearance under the revised survey guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The new framework places greater emphasis on visible cleanliness rather than paperwork-based assessments alone. Several public spaces, markets and roads in the state capital are witnessing rapid painting, cleaning and repair work as officials attempt to improve Bhopal’s ranking in the national cleanliness survey.

Focus On Cleanliness

Under the revised Swachh Survekshan guidelines, cities will now be assessed heavily on visible sanitation standards and public cleanliness. As part of the preparations, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation has started intensive cleaning drives on roads, drains and public toilets. Painting work with cleanliness-themed messages has also been carried out at multiple locations across the city. Authorities are additionally focusing on back lanes, garbage-sensitive areas and commercial markets to improve the city’s on-ground presentation before inspection teams arrive.

Markets Under Watch

Major commercial areas including New Market, 10 Number Market, Karond, Kolar, Bairagarh and parts of the old city have been identified as priority zones. Municipal teams are carrying out waste collection drives, repairing footpaths and improving public spaces in these areas. Decorative tiles and wall paintings are also being installed at several locations as part of the beautification campaign. Officials believe market cleanliness will play a major role in the city’s final assessment score under the new ranking parameters.

Visible Problems Remain

Despite the intensified campaign, several areas of the city continue to face problems such as open drains, damaged dustbins, pothole-ridden roads and garbage accumulation. Visible cleanliness alone carries 1,500 marks in the survey, making it one of the biggest challenges for Bhopal this year. Residents in some localities have pointed out that cleanliness drives are concentrated mainly on major roads while inner residential areas still require attention.

Ranking System Revised

According to officials, Swachh Survekshan 2025-26 rankings will be decided on the basis of 10 major indicators. The highest weightage of 10,500 marks has been assigned to on-ground assessment and citizen feedback. Visible cleanliness accounts for 1,500 marks, while ODF, ODF++ and Water Plus certification carry 1,000 marks. Garbage-free city star ratings will also contribute another 1,000 marks to the final ranking. The revised system has increased pressure on civic bodies to demonstrate practical sanitation improvements rather than relying on documentation.

Garbage Disposal Challenge

Garbage management in commercial markets remains one of the biggest concerns for municipal authorities. Under the guidelines, residential areas and parks must be cleaned at least once daily, while commercial markets, railway stations, bus stands and food streets require cleaning twice a day. Several market areas in Bhopal still struggle with overflowing garbage points and waste disposal issues, which could affect the city’s cleanliness score.

Beautification Work Continues

The corporation is also focusing on murals, waste-to-art installations and greenery enhancement projects to improve the city’s appearance. Nearly Rs 3 crore is reportedly being spent on wall paintings and artistic installations across Bhopal. Last year, major road improvement work was carried out ahead of the Global Investors Summit (GIS), but several stretches have again deteriorated. Back lanes are being painted and redesigned to improve the visual appeal of neighbourhoods included in the survey route.

Slums And Drains Concern

Cleanliness around slum areas, schools and drains continues to remain a major challenge for the civic body. Several drains across the city still contain garbage and debris despite ongoing cleaning operations. Near Ravindra Bhavan and other areas, broken protective nets and waste accumulation remain visible. Municipal officials said drain-cleaning work has been completed in six zones, while sewage infrastructure projects are also underway in some locations.

Adamapur Dumping Yard Biggest Issue

The Adamapur legacy waste dumping site continues to pose the biggest obstacle to Bhopal’s Swachh Survekshan performance. The massive garbage mound has repeatedly affected the city’s ranking in previous surveys. Officials have also faced challenges due to recurring fires and polluted water flowing from the site. Environmental concerns linked to the dumping yard remain unresolved despite ongoing waste management efforts.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will begin his three-day Chhattisgarh visit with a focus on expanding Dial-112 services, strengthening forensic infrastructure and reviewing Bastar’s security and development projects.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will remain on a three-day visit to Chhattisgarh from May 17 to May 19, with major programmes scheduled in Raipur and Bastar region. The visit is expected to focus on security preparedness, expansion of emergency response systems, development works in Naxal-affected areas and coordination between states through the Central Zonal Council meeting. Officials said the tour has been planned around improving governance, policing infrastructure and public services in sensitive regions of the state.

According to the official schedule, Amit Shah will reach Raipur on Sunday night by a special Indian Air Force aircraft from Ahmedabad. He is scheduled to land at Swami Vivekananda Airport around 8:10 pm before heading to a private hotel for an overnight stay. Security arrangements across the capital city have been intensified ahead of the visit. Police personnel and administrative officials have been deployed along the airport route, hotels and programme venues, with authorities maintaining high alert status throughout the tour.

One of the major highlights of the visit will be the statewide expansion of the Dial-112 emergency response service. On Monday morning, Amit Shah will attend a programme at the Police Training School in Raipur, where he will flag off 400 new Dial-112 vehicles. The expansion is being seen as a significant move by the state government to strengthen emergency policing and improve public response time in both urban and rural areas.

Officials said the Dial-112 facility was previously operational in only 16 districts of Chhattisgarh. After the latest expansion, the service will cover all districts and police stations across the state. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma had earlier stated that the upgraded system aims to ensure quicker police assistance during emergencies and improve law enforcement coordination across remote regions.

The state government is also set to introduce modern mobile forensic units in all 33 districts of Chhattisgarh during the visit. These advanced vehicles are equipped with scientific investigation tools designed to assist police teams at crime scenes. Officials believe the units will help speed up investigations and improve the quality of evidence collection, especially in districts where forensic infrastructure has remained limited.

After concluding the Raipur programme, Amit Shah will leave for Jagdalpur by special aircraft before proceeding to Netanar in Bastar district through a Border Security Force helicopter. At Netanar, the Union Home Minister will inaugurate a Jan Suvidha Kendra aimed at improving access to government services for rural residents in remote tribal areas. Administrative officials said the centre is expected to simplify public service delivery and reduce dependency on district headquarters for basic documentation and welfare-related work.

The Bastar region has remained a key focus area for both security operations and development initiatives due to its long history of Left Wing Extremism. Government officials view the latest visit as an effort to balance development measures with security preparedness in the region. Political observers also believe the visit carries administrative and strategic importance ahead of upcoming local body and organisational activities in the state.

Following the Netanar programme, Amit Shah will visit Amar Vatika in Jagdalpur to pay tribute to security personnel who lost their lives during anti-Naxal operations. The tribute ceremony is expected to hold symbolic significance for security forces operating in Bastar and surrounding districts. Several major anti-Naoal campaigns have been conducted in the region over the past few years, resulting in casualties among security personnel as well as intensified operations against extremist groups.

Later in the day, meetings related to development and security review will be held at Badal Academy and a private hotel in Jagdalpur. Senior administrative officers and public representatives are expected to participate in discussions focusing on roads, healthcare, education, connectivity, rehabilitation programmes and internal security measures. Departmental presentations are also likely to be made on infrastructure projects and welfare schemes currently underway in Bastar division.

A cultural programme titled “Bastar Ke Sang” has also been included in the itinerary. During the event, local artists will present Bastar’s traditional tribal culture, folk dances and regional art forms. Amit Shah is also expected to interact with Bharatiya Janata Party workers and local leaders during the evening programme before staying overnight in Jagdalpur.

On May 19, the Union Home Minister will chair the 26th meeting of the Central Zonal Council in Jagdalpur. The meeting is likely to be attended by chief ministers and senior officials from four states. Discussions are expected to focus on inter-state coordination, regional development, security management and administrative cooperation, particularly in Naxal-affected areas. Officials indicated that several pending coordination issues between participating states may also come up for discussion during the meeting.

After the meeting, Amit Shah is scheduled to address a press conference where key decisions and policy discussions related to security and development may be announced. He will later depart for Delhi from Jagdalpur by special aircraft. The visit is being closely watched at both political and administrative levels as it combines governance review, policing reforms and regional development priorities under a broader national security framework

Chhattisgarh Government Cuts Official Spending, Curbs Vehicle Use

The Chhattisgarh government has introduced new austerity measures, including reducing convoy vehicles, restricting foreign tours and promoting e-office systems across departments.

The Government of Chhattisgarh has issued fresh instructions aimed at reducing administrative expenditure and controlling non-essential spending across departments. Under the new financial discipline measures, the state government has directed all departments to limit expenditure strictly to essential work and avoid unnecessary use of government resources. The Finance Department issued the order as part of a broader effort to strengthen fiscal management and improve resource utilisation within the administration.

According to the official directives, the number of vehicles in the convoys of the Chief Minister, ministers and officials associated with various corporations and boards will be reduced. Departments have also been instructed to implement vehicle pooling systems and increase the use of digital office mechanisms such as e-office platforms. Officials said the new instructions will remain effective until September 30, 2026, and compliance will be mandatory for all departments and government institutions.

The move is being viewed as one of the state government’s major cost-control initiatives at a time when administrative expenditure is under close review. Authorities indicated that the aim is to ensure better utilisation of public funds while maintaining efficiency in governance and official operations.

One of the key measures announced under the order is the reduction in official convoy vehicles. Government sources said several departments had witnessed rising operational costs due to excessive use of official vehicles and fuel expenses. By reducing the number of vehicles accompanying ministers and senior officials, the government expects to lower recurring fuel and maintenance expenditure significantly.

Officials also clarified that vehicle pooling will now be implemented in government offices wherever possible. Under the pooling system, officers travelling to the same destination or attending similar meetings will be encouraged to use a common vehicle instead of separate cars. The system is expected to reduce fuel consumption, traffic congestion and administrative expenses. Senior officials believe the move could also improve coordination between departments during official visits and inspections.

The state government has simultaneously decided to promote e-office systems to reduce paper usage and administrative delays. Departments have been asked to increase digital processing of files and official communication in order to minimise physical documentation and improve efficiency. Administrative officials stated that greater adoption of e-office systems will not only help cut operational costs but also make government functioning faster and more transparent.

Another major provision included in the new order relates to foreign travel by government officers. According to the Finance Department guidelines, officials seeking to travel abroad on government expenditure will now require approval directly from the Chief Minister. Officials said such tours will be permitted only in cases where the visit is considered extremely necessary and directly linked to public interest or administrative priorities.

The restrictions on foreign visits are expected to reduce expenditure related to airfare, accommodation and official delegations. Government officials indicated that departments will now have to provide detailed justification before any proposal related to overseas travel is cleared. Administrative sources said the decision was taken after reviewing spending patterns linked to official tours and non-essential travel in recent years.

The state government has also emphasised the efficient use of public resources and administrative infrastructure. Departments have been directed to avoid unnecessary procurement and focus on essential expenditure only. Officials stated that financial discipline would remain a priority over the coming months and periodic reviews may be conducted to monitor implementation of the guidelines.

Alongside expenditure control measures, the government is also encouraging officers and employees to adopt digital training systems through the IGOT Karmayogi portal. The portal, launched by the central government, is designed to provide online skill development and training for government employees. Through the platform, officers can access administrative training modules, governance-related courses and technology-based learning programmes aimed at improving workplace efficiency.

Officials said promoting digital learning through the IGOT Karmayogi platform aligns with the government’s broader push toward modern administrative practices and reduced physical expenditure. Departments have been advised to encourage employees to make greater use of online training systems instead of organising multiple physical workshops and seminars that involve logistical costs.

Administrative experts believe the latest decisions reflect an effort by the state government to strengthen financial management while promoting technology-driven governance. The measures are also expected to influence operational practices across departments by encouraging accountability and resource optimisation. Political observers say the move could help the government project an image of fiscal responsibility amid increasing public focus on administrative spending and governance efficiency.

Bhojshala Worship Begins After ASI Guidelines in Dhar

Hindu devotees performed prayers and Maha Aarti at Dhar Bhojshala after implementation of new ASI guidelines, with rituals dedicated to Maa Vagdevi drawing large participation.

Religious activities resumed at the historic Bhojshala complex in Dhar on Sunday following the implementation of new guidelines issued by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Large numbers of Hindu devotees gathered at the site from early morning and offered prayers dedicated to Maa Vagdevi inside the premises. The reopening of worship arrangements under the revised framework created a festive atmosphere at the Bhojshala complex, with devotees carrying pictures of Maa Vagdevi and participating in traditional rituals. Authorities maintained security and monitoring arrangements during the religious activities.

Purification Ritual Performed

Before the Pooja rituals began, devotees and organisers carried out a purification ceremony inside the complex using cow urine, considered sacred in Hindu traditions. The sanctum area was decorated with colourful rangoli designs while priests and devotees performed rituals according to traditional customs. Organisers also shifted the eternal flame from the Jyoti Temple located outside the Bhojshala premises into the sanctum area for the special prayers. Religious chants and mantra recitations began at sunrise and continued through the morning hours.

Devotees Show Enthusiasm

A strong sense of enthusiasm was visible among devotees gathered at the Bhojshala complex. Several worshippers were seen celebrating with devotional songs and traditional dance performances after the commencement of the rituals. Members of Hindu organisations described the occasion as significant following the implementation of the new ASI guidelines regarding worship practices at the disputed historical site. The development remained one of the major Public Interest Story updates in Madhya Pradesh due to the long-standing religious and legal sensitivity linked to the Bhojshala complex.

Leaders Visit Bhojshala

On Saturday evening, Union Minister of State Savitri Thakur and saint Mahamandaleshwar Nisarg Das Maharaj visited Bhojshala to offer prayers. Dhar Collector Rajeev Ranjan Meena and Superintendent of Police Sachin Sharma also reached the premises and participated in the worship programme. Speaking during the visit, Savitri Thakur congratulated devotees and said the atmosphere around the site had become peaceful. She stated that earlier Fridays often witnessed tension around the complex, but the situation has now normalised.

Government Promises Development

The Union Minister further said devotees can now visit the site freely for darshan and worship. She also referred to the statement of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav regarding plans to develop Bhojshala in a more organised and attractive manner. According to government representatives, efforts are being planned to restore and develop the site while preserving its historical and cultural significance. Officials indicated that the objective is to promote Bhojshala as an important religious and heritage destination for visitors from across the country.

Hindu Groups Participate

Members of the Bhoj Utsav Samiti and local Hindu organisations reached the Bhojshala complex before sunrise on Sunday to oversee preparations. Bhoj Utsav Samiti general secretary Sumit Choudhary said purification rituals and Devi Anushthan programmes started early in the morning and continued throughout the day. He stated that a Maha Aarti by members of Hindu society was scheduled for 11:45 am. Organisation members also said discussions were underway regarding the future development and beautification of the complex.

Historical Significance Highlighted

Bhojshala has remained a historically and politically significant site in Madhya Pradesh for several decades due to competing religious claims associated with the complex. The latest ASI guidelines and reopening of worship arrangements have once again brought the site into public focus. Religious groups have welcomed the changes, while administrative authorities continue to monitor the situation to maintain law and order. Officials and religious groups indicated that further planning is underway to enhance facilities and preserve the heritage value of Bhojshala. The state government has also expressed interest in restoring the site’s historic grandeur.
