Chhattisgarh 12th Board Paper Leak Case: PTI Teacher Arrested

NSUI leader allegedly received handwritten Hindi paper for ₹3000, probe widens to exam officials in Raipur

Raipur police have made fresh arrests in the Class 12 board Hindi question paper leak case, deepening the investigation into what officials describe as a wider network of academic malpractice. A physical training instructor (PTI) teacher from Bemetara district has been arrested along with another accused after revelations that the paper was sold for ₹3,000 to a political student leader.

The case, initially registered on March 17, 2026, after a complaint from the state education board, has now expanded to include scrutiny of examination centre officials and administrative staff. Police said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely.

PTI Teacher Under Scanner

According to Raipur Kotwali police, the PTI teacher, identified as Jawahar Lal Kurre from a government higher secondary school in Bemetara’s Boratra village, allegedly prepared a handwritten version of the leaked question paper. Officials said the handwritten document was then passed on to NSUI leader Venu Kumar Janghel, who is now considered the alleged mastermind in the case. Police further stated that the paper was exchanged for ₹3,000, raising concerns over internal security lapses within the examination system.

Arrests Expand Investigation Scope

Along with the PTI teacher, another accused identified as Vikas Sen has also been arrested. Both are currently being interrogated to determine the full chain of transmission of the leaked paper. Investigators believe the leak was not an isolated incident but part of a coordinated effort involving multiple individuals connected to the examination process. Police sources said the role of additional individuals is under review, and further arrests cannot be ruled out.

NSUI Leader Named Mastermind

During interrogation, NSUI leader Venu Kumar Janghel allegedly admitted that he received the handwritten paper from the PTI teacher. Police described him as the central figure in the leak network. Officials said that the accused was present during the exchange of the question paper along with others involved in the case. The development has intensified political and administrative scrutiny around the incident, although no official political link has been formally established in the investigation so far.

Examination Officials Under Probe

As the investigation deepened, authorities also began examining the role of the examination centre in-charge and the exam controller in Bemetara district. Police said preliminary findings indicate possible negligence and procedural lapses in handling confidential examination material. Officials are now verifying whether internal staff had any direct or indirect involvement in the leak or failed to maintain required security protocols.

How Paper Was Circulated

According to police, the initial complaint was filed after reports surfaced that the Hindi question paper had been circulated on social media platforms before the scheduled examination. Investigators said the paper first appeared on Telegram groups on the night of March 13, 2026, nearly 10 hours before the exam. The leaked document, reportedly handwritten, was shared as an image and quickly spread across multiple online groups, reaching thousands of students within minutes. Officials said the rapid circulation raised serious concerns about digital misuse of examination material.

Social Media Spread Under Lens

Police sources said the leaked paper contained questions that closely resembled the actual examination format, increasing suspicion among officials and students. The image was reportedly shared widely across Telegram channels and later circulated on other social media platforms, reaching an estimated large number of users within a short span of time. Authorities are now investigating the origin of the digital leak and identifying the individuals responsible for uploading and distributing the content online.

Wider Administrative Action Expected

With the involvement of multiple individuals now confirmed, the education department and police are jointly reviewing systemic loopholes in the examination process. Officials said disciplinary action may also be initiated against those found responsible for negligence or procedural failure. Police ACP Deepak Mishra said the investigation is active and more people are likely to be questioned in the coming days as the network behind the leak is being mapped. The case has become a major point of concern in Chhattisgarh’s education system, raising questions about exam security, internal monitoring, and accountability.

New CCTV footage shows accused firing at medical store after killings; family reveals history of harassment and threats

A chilling new video has emerged in the brutal murder of two sisters in Raipur’s Mowa area, showing the accused – a licensed firearm holder and bouncer by profession – walking into a medical store brandishing a pistol and firing rounds shortly after killing his sisters-in-law. No one was injured in that incident.

The Tuesday night killings have sent shockwaves through the locality, with the accused’s wife and mother-in-law now demanding capital punishment.

New Footage Emerges

CCTV visuals from Apollo Medical Store in Mowa show accused Jitendra Verma alias Jeetu entering the shop, pointing his pistol at a customer, demanding car keys, and firing inside the store. Staff members were seen fleeing for safety.

Police later arrested Verma, who had fled after shooting dead Geetanjali Verma and Durgeshwari inside their mother’s home.

‘Mummy Bachao, Jija Will Shoot’

The sequence of events began around 10 pm Tuesday when Verma arrived at his mother-in-law Savitri Bai’s residence. He demanded to speak to his 16-month-old daughter via video call and insisted on taking his wife Khileshwari back home.

“He forced his way inside. Geetanjali was sleeping in the hall. She told him ‘didi is not home’. But he wouldn’t listen,” Savitri Bai recounted, breaking down.

Within moments, Verma pulled out his licensed pistol and opened fire. Geetanjali collapsed instantly. When Durgeshwari came downstairs from the terrace and saw her sister lying in a pool of blood, she screamed. Verma shot her too – the bullet striking near her neck.

“My daughters were writhing in front of me… I kept folding my hands… but he didn’t stop,” the mother said.

Years of Abuse, Says Wife

Khileshwari, Verma’s wife and elder sister of the deceased, has alleged a long pattern of violent behaviour. The couple married in 2020 and initially lived nearby before Verma lost his job.

“He started drinking. He would doubt my character though he himself was wrong. He had also misbehaved with my younger sisters,” Khileshwari alleged.

She claimed Verma had fired at the walls of their home twice before and had threatened her multiple times with his pistol. Just 5-6 days before the murder, she said, he aimed the gun at her again.

“I got scared and went to my sister’s place in Urakura with my daughter. But he finished my sisters instead,” she said. “I want him hanged.”

Licensed Weapon Raises Questions

The fact that Verma possessed a valid gun license – issued in 2020 and valid until December 2026 – has emerged as a key concern. He obtained the license citing VIP security and personal protection needs, being a professional bouncer.

Police verification before issuing licenses typically checks criminal records, mental state, local police reports, and genuine requirement. District collector-level approval follows.

Officials now admit the need for review. “Those with violent tendencies, mental instability, or involvement in serious disputes need license reconsideration,” a senior officer said.

Police have indicated a district-wide review of gun licenses may follow.

Investigation Underway

Verma remains in custody. Authorities are examining whether his background check during license issuance was thorough enough given the family’s claims of prior threats and firing incidents at home.

The case has once again raised public concern over easy access to licensed firearms in domestic violence situations. For Savitri Bai and Khileshwari, the wait is for justice – and answers that may never bring their daughters back.

Chhattisgarh High Court says discrimination among accused with similar evidence not permissible; Amit Jogi, son of former CM Ajit Jogi, convicted in 2003 murder of NCP leader Ramavatar Jaggi

Life Term For Amit Jogi

In a significant development in Chhattisgarh’s high-profile Ramavatar Jaggi murder case, the state High Court on Wednesday sentenced Amit Jogi – son of former chief minister Ajit Jogi – to life imprisonment. A special division bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Arvind Verma delivered the verdict, overturning the 2007 trial court order that had acquitted him.

The court observed that when all accused face similar charges and evidence, no single accused can be deliberately treated differently. “Discrimination among accused on identical evidence is not permissible unless a concrete and separate reason for acquittal is proven,” the bench noted.

Court’s Strong Observation

The division bench made it clear that acquitting one accused while convicting others on the same set of evidence is legally untenable. Sources indicated that the judges found no exceptional ground to spare Amit Jogi when 28 other accused had already been held guilty. The ruling effectively closes a legal loophole that had kept the former CM’s son out of prison for nearly two decades.

The 2003 Murder Case

Ramavatar Jaggi, a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and close associate of former Union minister Vidyacharan Shukla, was shot dead in Raipur on June 4, 2003. The murder sent shockwaves through Chhattisgarh’s political circles. Following allegations of bias and dissatisfaction with the initial police probe, the state government handed over the investigation to the CBI.

The central agency subsequently charged 31 accused, including Amit Jogi, with murder and criminal conspiracy. Two accused – Baltu Pathak and Surendra Singh – turned government witnesses during the trial.

Previous Acquittal Overturned

On May 31, 2007, a special court in Raipur had granted Amit Jogi the benefit of doubt and acquitted him. The victim’s son, Satish Jaggi, challenged this acquittal before the Supreme Court. The apex court stayed the trial court’s order and later transferred the case back to the Chhattisgarh High Court for a fresh, detailed hearing.

Two years ago, the division bench had already dismissed appeals filed by other convicts in the case, upholding their life sentences. The Supreme Court then accepted a CBI appeal and directed the High Court to re-examine Amit Jogi’s role comprehensively.

Conspiracy Allegations

Appearing before the High Court, Satish Jaggi’s counsel B.P. Sharma argued that the murder conspiracy was “sponsored by the then state government.” He alleged that critical evidence was destroyed under government influence once the CBI probe began. “In such a case, evidence alone is not decisive – the conspiracy must be uncovered,” Sharma had submitted.

According to officials familiar with the proceedings, the bench found merit in the argument that all accused operated with a common intention, making selective acquittal unjustified.

Other Convicts Named

Among the 28 individuals earlier convicted in the Jaggi murder case are two former CSPs (superintendents of police), a former police station in-charge, Yaaya Dheber – brother of former Raipur mayor Ejaz Dheber – and shooter Chiman Singh. The High Court has now added Amit Jogi to the list of those serving life terms.

What Lies Ahead

Legal experts tracking the case say Amit Jogi is likely to appeal the verdict before the Supreme Court. His legal team had earlier maintained that the CBI’s chargesheet lacked direct evidence against him. However, with the High Court’s categorical ruling on discrimination in evidence, any further appeal faces an uphill climb.

The Jaggi murder case remains one of Chhattisgarh’s most politically sensitive trials. For now, the family of Ramavatar Jaggi has welcomed the verdict, calling it “justice after 20 years of waiting.” This latest news today underscores how courts are scrutinising selective acquittals in high-profile murder cases. As an India news update, the ruling reinforces the principle that identical evidence must lead to identical outcomes – regardless of the accused’s political background. For readers of any English news portal India, this verdict stands as a landmark on evidentiary fairness in criminal law.

Seven arrested including two women and a minor; gang was smuggling cannabis from Odisha to Madhya Pradesh via Chhattisgarh capital

Gang Caught Red-Handed

Raipur police dismantled an inter-state drug smuggling network on Wednesday after arresting seven individuals — including two women and a minor — found carrying over 22 kilograms of cannabis near Telghani Naka in the Ganj police station area of the state capital.

The operation, carried out on the evening of April 2, follows a tip-off received by local police about a group loitering near the naka with bags suspected to contain contraband.

Tip-Off Led to Quick Action

According to police officials, a confidential informant alerted the Ganj police station that several individuals were standing near Telghani Naka with loaded bags, apparently waiting to move to another location.

A police team was immediately deployed to cordon off the area. Upon conducting a search, officers recovered ganja from the personal bags of all seven individuals on the spot.

Accused Named, Odisha Links Confirmed

The arrested accused have been identified as Shantanu Malik, Romeo Malik, Juliet Malik, Rahul Malik, Rashmita Digal, and Deepa Digal — all residents of Odisha — along with one juvenile whose identity has not been disclosed given their age.

Sources indicated that the group had procured the cannabis from Odisha and was in the process of transporting it to Madhya Pradesh when they were intercepted in Raipur.

Over ₹11 Lakh in Contraband Seized

Police seized a total of 22.450 kilograms of ganja from the accused, with the street value of the seized consignment estimated at approximately ₹11.22 lakh.

The recovery was made from individual bags carried by each member of the group, suggesting a deliberate distribution of the contraband to avoid detection at checkpoints.

NDPS Act Invoked

Cases have been registered against all seven accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Ganj police station. All arrested individuals are currently in police custody and are being questioned to uncover the full extent of the trafficking network.

As per reports, investigators are working to identify other members connected to this supply chain — both at the source end in Odisha and the distribution end in Madhya Pradesh.

Officials Vow Continued Crackdown

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Cyber), Smritik Rajnala, confirmed that the crackdown on drug trafficking operations will continue without pause.

"Action against those running narcotics trade will remain relentless," the DCP stated, adding that the identities of other associates linked to this gang are being established and arrests are expected soon.

What Comes Next

This latest bust is part of a sustained anti-narcotics drive by Raipur police targeting inter-state drug corridors passing through Chhattisgarh. The state, positioned between Odisha and Madhya Pradesh, has increasingly been flagged as a transit route for cannabis smuggling networks.

Officials are expected to seek police remand of the accused to trace the supplier network back to its origin in Odisha. Further arrests in connection with this case remain likely as interrogation continues, according to sources close to the investigation. The case has been forwarded for judicial proceedings under the NDPS Act.
