Interpol Issues Red Corner Notice for Sambhal Violence Accused Shariq Satta

Interpol has issued a Red Corner Notice against fugitive gangster Shariq Satta, whom Uttar Pradesh Police have identified as an alleged key conspirator in the November 2024 Sambhal violence. The international alert is part of efforts to trace Satta, who is believed to have fled India, and facilitate his return to the country for legal proceedings. The notice was issued following a request from the Uttar Pradesh Police, processed through the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in coordination with Interpol. 

Satta has been declared a proclaimed offender by a local court after failing to appear before investigators and the judiciary. According to officials, he allegedly escaped to Dubai using a fake passport. The Red Corner Notice allows police and other law enforcement agencies in member countries to seek his location and provisional detention, with the ultimate objective of extraditing him to India. The development is significant because authorities have so far been unable to locate the accused despite efforts to trace him.

Sambhal Violence Case

The violence in Sambhal erupted on November 24, 2024, during a court-directed survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid. The survey had followed a claim that a temple had previously existed at the site. During the second survey, clashes broke out between protesters and security personnel, resulting in four deaths and injuries to several people. Police subsequently registered multiple cases and launched an investigation into those allegedly involved in the violence. 

Uttar Pradesh Police have described Satta as one of the principal accused in the case. Earlier this year, authorities also carried out attachment proceedings against his residence in the Deepa Sarai area of Sambhal after a court issued warrants concerning his movable and immovable properties. Officials said Satta had remained untraceable despite several raids, while investigators were also examining his assets and possible associates who may have helped him evade arrest. 

International Search Intensifies

The Red Corner Notice expands the search beyond India's borders and places the case within the framework of international police cooperation. While such a notice is an international request to locate and provisionally arrest a wanted person, it does not itself constitute an international arrest warrant. Any detention or extradition action remains subject to the laws and procedures of the country where the individual is located.

Satta is also reportedly wanted in dozens of other criminal cases across Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region. Investigators have linked him to organised criminal activity and vehicle theft cases, adding to the reasons authorities have been pursuing him. 

The latest action by Interpol comes as Uttar Pradesh authorities continue their efforts to bring those accused in the Sambhal violence case before the court. For investigators, locating Satta abroad is now the immediate challenge, while the Red Corner Notice provides an additional mechanism for seeking international assistance in tracing him and initiating the process for his return to India. 

A joint police team from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh came under attack while attempting to arrest a theft accused in Kadiya village of Rajgarh district. Three police personnel were injured after villagers allegedly resorted to stone pelting during the late-night operation.

The incident took place around 11 pm on Tuesday under the jurisdiction of Boda Police Station. Following the attack, a large police force led by senior officers launched a fresh operation on Wednesday morning and detained several suspects.

Joint Operation Faced Resistance

According to police, a seven-member team from Lalitpur district in Uttar Pradesh had reached Kadiya village along with nearly 10 personnel from Boda Police Station to arrest a suspect wanted in a theft case registered in Lalitpur.

As the police team initiated the arrest, family members of the accused and several villagers allegedly opposed the action, leading to a confrontation.

Stone Pelting Leaves Three Policemen Injured

The situation quickly escalated when stones were allegedly hurled at the police team.

A constable from the Lalitpur police sustained minor injuries, while Boda Police Station constables Kapil Ataria and Vinod Ahirwar suffered serious injuries in the attack.

All three injured personnel were initially taken to the Pachore Community Health Centre. After primary treatment, the two seriously injured Madhya Pradesh constables were referred to a private hospital in Biaora for further medical care.

Massive Police Deployment

Following the incident, a large-scale police operation was launched early Wednesday.

Under the leadership of Additional Superintendent of Police K.L. Banjare, teams from six police stations, including Pachore, Talen, Karanwas and Narsinghgarh, conducted searches in Kadiya village to identify those involved in the attack.

Police said several people accused of participating in the stone pelting have been detained and taken into custody.

Legal Action Underway

Police officials said those responsible for attacking the police team, obstructing government duty and pelting stones would face strict legal action.

Authorities are also verifying the criminal backgrounds of those detained while continuing the search for other suspects allegedly involved in the incident.

The investigation into the alleged theft of donations from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple Trust has intensified, with Uttar Pradesh Police claiming that a portion of the misappropriated funds was invested in the stock market and routed through the bank accounts of relatives and close associates.

Investigators on Thursday took one of the accused, Anukalp Mishra, to his residence in Ayodhya as part of the ongoing probe. Police searched the premises for around 20 minutes and questioned family members, though officials have not disclosed whether any additional evidence was recovered during the operation.

According to police sources, Anukalp allegedly admitted during interrogation that he and co-accused Avinash Shukla invested a significant portion of the stolen donation money in the stock market. The accused are also alleged to have lent money on interest and transferred funds through the bank accounts of relatives before routing the money back into their own accounts in an attempt to conceal the financial trail.

Thirty Bank Accounts Frozen

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has frozen 30 bank accounts linked to the accused and their family members after investigators found financial transactions that were allegedly disproportionate to their known sources of income.

The move is part of a broader effort to trace the movement of funds and identify the complete money trail. Police officials are examining banking records and digital transactions to determine the total amount allegedly diverted from temple donations.

On Wednesday, police had similarly taken co-accused Lavkush Mishra and Karunesh Pandey to their residences for searches. All three accused were subsequently placed on 40-hour police remand for further questioning.

Investigators also recovered forged donation receipts during the searches, which are expected to play a key role in establishing how the alleged fraud was carried out.

Political Reactions Intensify

The case has sparked a fresh political confrontation in Uttar Pradesh.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav termed the alleged theft of temple donations a "grave sin" and accused the Special Investigation Team of attempting to cover up the matter.

Addressing reporters, Yadav claimed that questions had also been raised over the SIT itself, alleging that one of its members was facing a cheating case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code. He further alleged that complaints raised by the Opposition were not being taken seriously.

Yadav also demanded a detailed examination of call detail records (CDRs) linked to individuals associated with the temple's donation management system.

BJP Defends Investigation

The Bharatiya Janata Party rejected the Opposition's allegations, asserting that the state government had acted swiftly after the irregularities surfaced.

Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Manoj Pandey said the government had ordered an investigation immediately and assured that those found guilty would face strict action.

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Manan Kumar Mishra also criticised the Opposition for politicising the issue, stating that an SIT had already been constituted, FIRs had been registered and arrests had been made. He said the law would take its course regardless of the stature of those involved.

Congress Seeks Greater Accountability

Congress leaders also demanded greater transparency in the management of temple donations.

MP Imran Masood suggested that the Ram Temple Trust should be administered on the lines of the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board if financial irregularities were established. Congress leader Pramod Tiwari questioned how senior officials associated with the Trust could escape scrutiny if the allegations proved true.

Meanwhile, Trust member Mahant Dinendra Das expressed confidence in the state administration and said those responsible would not be spared.

Trust Treasurer Swami Govind Dev Giri said new safeguards had already been introduced in the donation counting process and expressed confidence that similar incidents would not recur.

Accused Nageshwar Singh Baghel picked up from Purwa Kalyanpur village in joint operation; cyber cell investigating social media post and possible foreign link

A man was arrested from Rewa district on Sunday for allegedly posting obscene and derogatory comments on social media against Aditi Yadav, the daughter of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav.

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), along with the Kanpur Commissionerate Cyber Crime Police and Rewa police, conducted a joint operation to apprehend the accused. Nageshwar Singh Baghel (32), a resident of Purwa Kalyanpur village under Panwar police station limits in Rewa district, was taken into custody from his village.

The case originated from a complaint filed by the National Secretary of the Samajwadi Party Advocates' Wing at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Kanpur Commissionerate. The complaint alleged that a Facebook user had shared an altered image of Akhilesh Yadav's daughter along with vulgar and derogatory remarks.

Following the complaint, police registered Case No. 38/2026 at the Cyber Crime Police Station under multiple sections: Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with words or acts intended to insult a woman's modesty; Section 336(4) of the BNS, relating to forgery intended to damage a person's reputation; and Section 66E of the Information Technology Act, which addresses privacy violations in cyberspace.

The Cyber Crime Police launched an investigation, examining technical data obtained from the social media platform along with digital evidence and electronic records. The investigation led them to Rewa in Madhya Pradesh.

An STF team from Uttar Pradesh reached Madhya Pradesh and, with the help of local police, traced the accused. Panwar police station in-charge Praveen Upadhyay led the local team that conducted the joint operation and took Baghel into custody. After completing necessary legal formalities, the accused was handed over to the Uttar Pradesh STF and taken to Uttar Pradesh for further questioning.

Police officials said the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are also looking into whether any other individuals or digital platforms are linked to the case. Investigators have found that one of the social media accounts linked to the controversy was allegedly being operated from the United States.

Kanpur Commissioner of Police Raghubir Lal said the police are committed to protecting the dignity, respect and safety of women. "Sharing edited images, false information, offensive comments or any content on social media that damages a woman's reputation is a punishable offence, and strict legal action will be taken against those involved," he said.

Earlier, on June 17, FIRs were registered against multiple individuals accused of making objectionable comments about Akhilesh Yadav's daughter. The controversy had drawn widespread condemnation, with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath publicly defending Aditi Yadav and directing police to register an FIR against those responsible.

Following his arrest, Baghel was produced before a court, which later granted him bail.

Police officials have made it clear that social media platforms are being continuously monitored for objectionable and offensive content, and strict legal action will be taken in such cases. Further investigation is underway.

Despite a late-night government announcement increasing minimum wages, protesters engaged in stone-pelting at several locations, prompting the deployment of 15 companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and the Rapid Action Force (RAF).

The situation escalated early in the morning when groups of workers attempted to block roads in Sector 121 and Sector 80. Police officials confirmed that while the majority of industrial units remained shut, heavy patrolling is being conducted to prevent a repeat of Monday’s large-scale vandalism. Over 26 senior officers, including 8 Additional SPs, are currently stationed on the ground to monitor the transition.
