IMD has forecast heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning in several districts over the next 48 hours.

Monsoon activity has intensified across Chhattisgarh following the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a warning for widespread rainfall over the next 48 hours. Several districts, particularly in central and southern Chhattisgarh, are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

According to the IMD, the weather system is expected to strengthen further, reviving monsoon conditions after a prolonged dry spell across the state.

Rainfall Activity Expected to Increase

The weather department has forecast light to moderate rainfall in many parts of the state on Thursday, while isolated locations may experience heavy showers, thunderstorms, and lightning.

The impact of the Bay of Bengal system is expected to be most pronounced in central and southern districts before spreading to other regions over the next two days.

State Records 29% Rainfall Deficit

Despite the expected improvement, Chhattisgarh has recorded 29% below-normal rainfall between June 1 and July 15, according to IMD data.

Out of the state's 32 districts, 16 continue to face rainfall deficiency, while 14 districts have received normal rainfall. Meteorologists believe the fresh spell of rain could significantly reduce the existing rainfall deficit if the system remains active.

Raipur Likely to Witness Showers

In the state capital Raipur, cloudy skies are expected throughout the day, with intermittent rain or thundershowers likely. The maximum temperature is forecast to remain around 30°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to hover near 24°C.

On Wednesday, Rajnandgaon recorded the state's highest maximum temperature at 35.5°C, while Bilaspur registered the lowest minimum temperature at 24.2°C.

Central, Southern Districts May Receive Heavier Rain

Meteorologists said the strengthening low-pressure area could bring relatively heavier rainfall to central and southern Chhattisgarh, offering relief to farmers and improving water availability in reservoirs and groundwater sources.

The renewed rainfall is expected to benefit kharif crops, which depend heavily on consistent monsoon activity during July.

Break Monsoon Had Impacted Agriculture

Weather experts noted that July is typically the wettest month in Chhattisgarh. The recent decline in rainfall was attributed to a break monsoon phase, during which the monsoon trough shifted away from the region and low-pressure systems weakened.

Such conditions temporarily reduced rainfall across central India, including Chhattisgarh, delaying agricultural activities in several districts.

Rainfall Distribution Remains Uneven

Rainfall has varied considerably across districts this season.

Sarangarh-Bilaigarh has recorded 462.5 mm of rainfall, around 74% above normal, making it the only district in the "large excess" rainfall category. Mungeli has also received above-normal rainfall, while several districts including Balod, Baloda Bazar, Dantewada, Raipur, Janjgir-Champa, Mahasamund, Sakti, and Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai have reported rainfall close to normal levels.

However, rainfall continues to remain below normal in several other districts, highlighting the uneven distribution of monsoon showers across the state.

The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and lightning and urged farmers and local administrations to monitor updated weather advisories over the coming days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall across several parts of North Chhattisgarh over the next five days, offering hope for improved monsoon activity after the state recorded a significant rainfall deficit so far this season.

According to the weather department, several districts, including Raipur, are likely to witness rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Residents have been advised to avoid open fields, trees and electricity poles during adverse weather conditions.

Rainfall Activity Expected to Improve

During the past 24 hours, light rainfall was reported at several places in the Surguja division and in parts of the Bastar division. The highest rainfall during the period was recorded at Kharora, where 10 mm of rain was measured.

Meteorologists expect intermittent rainfall across many districts over the next few days, although heavy and widespread precipitation is not currently forecast.

State Still Below Normal Rainfall

Despite recent showers, Chhattisgarh continues to face a rainfall deficit.

Official data show that the state has received 252.4 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon season, compared to the normal 320.6 mm, leaving the cumulative rainfall around 21–24 per cent below normal.

Out of the state's 32 districts, 16 districts continue to report below-normal rainfall, highlighting uneven monsoon distribution across Chhattisgarh.

Sarangarh-Bilaigarh Leads Rainfall Chart

Among all districts, Sarangarh-Bilaigarh has recorded the highest rainfall this season with 462.5 mm, nearly 74 per cent above normal, making it the only district to fall in the "excess rainfall" category.

Mungeli has also received above-normal rainfall with 331.8 mm, approximately 21 per cent higher than the seasonal average.

Several districts, including Raipur, Balod, Baloda Bazar, Balrampur, Dantewada, Janjgir-Champa, Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai, Mahasamund, Rajnandgaon, Korba and Bilaspur, have recorded rainfall ranging from near-normal to moderately below normal.

Raipur Forecast

For Raipur, the IMD has predicted cloudy skies throughout Monday, with the possibility of thunderstorms and rainfall during the day.

The city is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 34°C and a minimum temperature of about 27°C.

The weather department has maintained a similar forecast for the next two days, indicating light to moderate rainfall at isolated locations along with thunder and lightning.

Relief Expected for Farmers

The first half of July is considered a crucial period for sowing kharif crops, particularly paddy.

Agricultural experts say the rainfall deficit in several districts has affected sowing activities and early crop growth. If the forecast rainfall between July 13 and July 15 materialises, it could improve soil moisture levels and provide much-needed relief to farmers preparing or continuing cultivation.

Authorities have advised people to remain alert during thunderstorms and follow weather advisories issued by local administrations.

MP Monsoon Update: Madhya Pradesh Receives 25% Seasonal Rainfall; Dewas Records Highest Rain

Madhya Pradesh has received 25% of its seasonal rainfall, with July showers reversing June's deficit. Dewas leads in rainfall, while Alirajpur remains the driest district.

Madhya Pradesh has witnessed a significant improvement in monsoon activity after a delayed start to the season, with rainfall during the first half of July helping the state surpass its seasonal average. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state has so far received nearly 25% of its total seasonal rainfall, with precipitation currently standing 8% above normal.

The southwest monsoon arrived in Madhya Pradesh on June 24—nine days later than its usual onset. However, it covered the entire state within the following nine days. While the delayed arrival resulted in a rainfall deficit of nearly 30% during June, continuous showers in early July have reversed the trend.

Rainfall Surpasses Seasonal Average

IMD Bhopal data shows that Madhya Pradesh has received an average of 9.4 inches of rainfall against the normal 8.7 inches expected during this period. As a result, the state has recorded rainfall 8% above the long-term average.

Meteorologists say the intense spell of rain witnessed over the past week has now eased, although another weather system is expected to become active during the coming week, which could trigger fresh heavy rainfall across several regions.

Malwa-Nimar Region Performs Best

Western Madhya Pradesh, particularly the Malwa and Nimar regions, has recorded the strongest monsoon performance so far.

Dewas has emerged as the wettest district in the state, receiving nearly 17.9 inches of rainfall, accounting for more than 50% of its seasonal quota. Other districts including Bhopal, Sehore, Indore, Burhanpur and Harda have also crossed the 12-inch mark.

At the other end of the spectrum, Alirajpur remains the driest district, recording only 2.3 inches of rainfall—around 7% of its seasonal target.

Rainfall Distribution Across Districts

Several districts continue to experience below-normal rainfall despite the recent improvement. These include Anuppur, Balaghat, Dindori, Jabalpur, Katni, Maihar, Mandla, Mauganj, Narsinghpur, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Shahdol, Sidhi, Singrauli, Tikamgarh, Umaria, Alirajpur, Datia, Dhar, Jhabua, Morena, Narmadapuram, Raisen and Shivpuri.

Meanwhile, districts such as Agar Malwa, Ashoknagar, Barwani, Betul, Bhind, Bhopal, Burhanpur, Dewas, Guna, Gwalior, Harda, Indore, Khandwa, Khargone, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Rajgarh, Ratlam, Sehore, Shajapur, Sheopur, Ujjain, Vidisha, Chhatarpur, Chhindwara, Damoh, Niwari, Pandhurna, Panna and Seoni have recorded above-normal rainfall.

Water Levels Improve in Rivers and Reservoirs

The recent spell of rain has also improved water storage in rivers and reservoirs across the state.

While no major dam has reached overflow levels yet, authorities expect reservoir levels to rise substantially during August if rainfall continues. Rivers such as the Kolans, which feeds Bhopal's Upper Lake, are witnessing increased inflows. Water levels have also improved in Kerwa and Kaliyasot dams.

Tourist attractions including Brihaspati Kund and Pandav Falls in Panna have also witnessed increased water flow following the recent rainfall.

Weather Outlook for the Week Ahead

Weather experts say the current spell of widespread heavy rain has temporarily weakened. However, a fresh weather system is likely to develop during the coming week, increasing rainfall activity once again across many parts of Madhya Pradesh.

According to weather expert Shailendra Kumar Nayak, July has remained favourable for monsoon activity due to multiple active weather systems. Although rainfall is expected to remain light over the next few days, another strong spell may begin next week.

Five Major Cities Record Healthy Rainfall

Among the major cities, Bhopal has already received around 12.9 inches of rainfall, amounting to nearly one-third of its seasonal quota. Indore has recorded approximately 14 inches, while Ujjain has received 11.7 inches.

Jabalpur has reported 8.6 inches of rainfall, while Gwalior and adjoining Chambal districts, despite a delayed monsoon onset, have also recorded encouraging rainfall levels compared to the early weeks of the season.

With another weather system expected to become active soon, meteorologists believe rainfall figures across the state are likely to improve further in the coming days.

Chhattisgarh Monsoon Update: State Records 21% Rainfall Deficit, IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Four Districts

Chhattisgarh has recorded a 21% rainfall deficit this monsoon season. IMD has issued a yellow alert for four northern districts and forecasts increased rainfall over the next five days.

Chhattisgarh continues to witness sluggish monsoon activity, with the state recording a 21% rainfall deficit so far this season despite scattered showers over the past 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has, however, forecast an improvement in rainfall activity over the next five days and issued a yellow alert for four districts in the Surguja division, warning of thunderstorms and lightning.

According to IMD data, the state received 252.4 mm of rainfall between June 1 and July 11 against the normal seasonal average of 320.6 mm. The shortfall reflects a slowdown in monsoon activity during the second week of July, raising concerns for agriculture in several districts.

Yellow Alert for Four Districts

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for Surguja, Surajpur, Balrampur and Jashpur on Sunday, warning of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

Meteorologists have indicated that rainfall activity is likely to intensify from July 13 as favourable weather systems become more active. Residents have been advised to avoid open fields, isolated trees and electric poles during thunderstorms due to the risk of lightning strikes.

Two Weather Systems Driving Rainfall

According to IMD, two significant weather systems are currently influencing weather conditions across central India.

An upper air cyclonic circulation persists over eastern Uttar Pradesh, while another cyclonic circulation remains active over north-west Bihar and adjoining areas. These systems are continuously drawing moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal towards Chhattisgarh, creating favourable conditions for cloud formation and rainfall across several parts of the state.

Weather experts expect the combined influence of these systems to strengthen from Monday, leading to an increase in rainfall intensity across northern districts.

Half the State Still Facing Rainfall Deficit

Despite intermittent showers, rainfall remains below normal in half of Chhattisgarh's districts. Out of 32 districts, 16 have reported deficient rainfall, while 14 districts fall within the normal range.

The rainfall deficit is particularly severe in northern Chhattisgarh. Surguja has recorded a 54% shortfall, followed by Jashpur (42%), Korea (39%), Surajpur (30%) and Manendragarh-Bharatpur (29%).

In Bastar division, traditionally among the state's wettest regions, rainfall has also remained below expectations. Bastar district has recorded a 27% deficit, Kondagaon 34%, Sukma 32% and Bijapur 20%, although Dantewada and Narayanpur have reported comparatively better rainfall.

Sarangarh-Bilaigarh Tops Rainfall Chart

Sarangarh-Bilaigarh has emerged as the state's wettest district so far this season, recording 462.5 mm of rainfall against the normal 265.7 mm—an excess of 74%. It is currently the only district classified under the "large excess rainfall" category.

Mungeli has also received above-normal rainfall, recording 331.8 mm, around 21% higher than the seasonal average.

Several districts, including Balod, Balodabazar, Balrampur, Gariaband, Janjgir-Champa, Raipur, Mahasamund and Rajnandgaon, have reported rainfall close to seasonal norms.

Temperatures Remain Moderate

Durg recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 33.6 degrees Celsius, while Ambikapur registered the lowest minimum temperature at 23.8 degrees Celsius during the last 24 hours.

For Raipur, the weather department has forecast cloudy skies with intermittent spells of rain throughout Sunday. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely, with temperatures expected to range between 27 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius.

Agriculture Depends on Upcoming Showers

The rainfall situation remains crucial for farmers as the first half of July is considered the most important period for Kharif crop sowing, particularly paddy cultivation. Insufficient rainfall in several districts could delay sowing operations and affect early crop growth.

Meteorologists believe that if the predicted increase in rainfall between July 13 and July 15 materialises, soil moisture levels will improve significantly, providing much-needed relief to farmers across the state.

The southwest monsoon continued to batter large parts of northern India on Friday, triggering widespread flooding, landslides and rain-related deaths across several states, even as meteorologists linked the changing weather pattern to the influence of Super Typhoon Bavi over the western Pacific.

Heavy rainfall affected Delhi, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, disrupting transport, damaging infrastructure and prompting rescue operations. At least 13 people lost their lives in rain and lightning-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, while authorities remained on high alert in several flood-prone districts.

According to weather reports, the formation of Super Typhoon Bavi has temporarily weakened the southwest monsoon current over parts of the Indian subcontinent. Despite this, localized heavy rainfall has continued due to active low-pressure systems and moisture-laden winds, resulting in intense downpours across northern and central India.

Delhi Witnesses Waterlogging

The national capital recorded persistent rainfall over the past 24 hours, leading to severe waterlogging in several areas. Tukhmirpur received nearly 160 mm of rainfall, making it one of the wettest locations in the city.

Major roads, including Vikas Marg, Sangam Vihar, Dwarka, Munirka and areas near New Delhi Railway Station, remained inundated for several hours, slowing traffic movement. Flooding was also reported around Ghazipur Mandi, while a tree uprooted during the storm fell onto a parked vehicle.

Uttarakhand Pilgrimage Routes Hit

In Uttarakhand, continuous rainfall caused significant damage to road connectivity in the hill districts.

Nearly 100 metres of the Yamunotri Highway in Uttarkashi was washed away, leaving around 1,000 pilgrims stranded. Authorities have deployed teams to restore connectivity while ensuring the safety of stranded devotees.

The Adi Kailash route in Pithoragarh was closed after repeated rockfalls, and landslides blocked sections of the Gangotri National Highway. Rescue teams cleared debris from affected stretches to restore traffic.

In Haridwar, several low-lying areas remained submerged under three to four feet of water. A tourist's SUV became trapped in the Neeldhara River and was pulled out after a two-hour rescue operation using heavy machinery. In nearby Rishikesh, local residents rescued a scooter rider who was swept away while attempting to cross a swollen river.

Rain Claims Lives in UP and Bihar

Rain-related incidents claimed 10 lives in Uttar Pradesh on Friday.

In Bulandshahr, two members of the same family died after an old mosque wall collapsed during heavy rainfall. In Hardoi, two sisters were swept away by a swollen river, while several other fatalities were reported from separate incidents linked to collapsing structures, drowning and electrocution.

In neighbouring Bihar, one person died after being struck by lightning in Gopalganj.

State disaster response teams have been deployed in vulnerable districts, while district administrations have advised residents to avoid waterlogged areas and overflowing rivers.

Rajasthan and Himachal Also Affected

Heavy rain also disrupted normal life in Rajasthan, where a house collapsed in Dholpur, trapping six people beneath the debris. Rescue operations were launched immediately.

The adverse weather affected railway services as well, with six trains cancelled and several others running behind schedule.

In Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, incessant rain caused a retaining wall to collapse, blocking roads and leaving several vehicles stranded. Local authorities said timely action prevented a major accident, while electricity officials assessed damage to power infrastructure.

Authorities Continue Monitoring Situation

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heavy rainfall may continue in several northern states over the coming days, urging people living near rivers, landslide-prone areas and low-lying regions to remain cautious.

Disaster management agencies have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and to follow local administration advisories as rescue and restoration work continues across affected regions.

The southwest monsoon has now covered the entire country, bringing widespread rainfall but also causing severe disruption across several states. Heavy showers on Thursday triggered floods, landslides, road cave-ins, building collapses and waterlogging, affecting normal life in Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and other parts of the country.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy rainfall in several regions and issued weather alerts, including a red alert for Delhi, as authorities remain on high alert.

Road Cave-in in Ghaziabad

One of the major incidents was reported from Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad, where a road caved in after continuous rainfall. A car and a motorcycle fell into the pit created by the collapse. Waterlogging was reported across several parts of the city, with some roads submerged under nearly two feet of water. Power supply was also disrupted in multiple localities.

Heavy rain was also recorded in Meerut, Bahraich, Hapur, Lucknow, Ayodhya and several other districts.

Landslides Hit Uttarakhand

In Uttarakhand, persistent rainfall triggered landslides in Uttarkashi and Tehri districts, disrupting road connectivity and damaging infrastructure.

The Gangotri National Highway was blocked near Nagun after debris from a landslide covered the road, forcing authorities to suspend traffic while clearance operations continued. Reports of house collapses also emerged from rain-hit areas, while roads in Haridwar were submerged due to waterlogging.

Rescue teams and local administration remain deployed in vulnerable locations as heavy rainfall continues.

Flood Situation Worsens in Maharashtra

Maharashtra continued to face flood-like conditions in several districts. In Raigad's Panvel area, nearly 3,000 LPG cylinders were swept into the Patalganga River after floodwaters inundated an LPG bottling plant.

The district administration has urged residents not to touch or collect any floating cylinders due to the risk of explosions and accidents.

Meanwhile, rivers including the Mutha in Pune remained in spate, inundating low-lying areas and affecting traffic movement.

Heavy Rain Across Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh witnessed another intense spell of monsoon rainfall, with showers reported from more than 20 districts. Damoh recorded the highest rainfall of 1.75 inches during the past 24 hours.

In Khargone district, a young man was reportedly swept away by the strong current of the Ruparel River. Several roads remained submerged, while local authorities continued monitoring river levels and vulnerable locations.

Rajasthan and Gujarat Continue to Receive Rain

Eastern and southern Rajasthan also experienced heavy rainfall, with districts including Bharatpur, Udaipur, Alwar, Karauli and Chittorgarh reporting waterlogging and disrupted traffic.

In Gujarat, multiple weather systems remained active simultaneously, bringing heavy rain to districts such as Surat, Navsari and Gir Somnath. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel chaired a review meeting to assess the flood situation and preparedness across the state.

Delhi Records Heavy Downpour

The national capital witnessed intense rainfall on Thursday, resulting in widespread waterlogging in several areas, including Sangam Vihar and Badarpur.

In Rohini Sector 15, a tree uprooted by strong winds fell on a parked van, damaging the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Heavy waterlogging was also reported at a government school in Badarpur, disrupting normal activities.

Authorities Continue Relief Operations

Across the affected states, disaster response teams, police personnel and local administrations are engaged in rescue, evacuation and road clearance operations. Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from swollen rivers and follow official weather advisories.

With the monsoon now covering the entire country and more rainfall forecast over the coming days, officials are closely monitoring flood-prone regions to minimise damage and ensure public safety.

India's active southwest monsoon continued to unleash widespread disruption on Tuesday, triggering landslides, flash floods and severe waterlogging across several states. Kerala, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh were among the worst-affected regions as heavy rainfall impacted transport, education and daily life.

In Kerala, six workers were injured after a landslide struck the Anakkompoyil–Meppadi tunnel project site in Wayanad district. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, while rescue and relief teams remained deployed at the location. Authorities continued to monitor the area amid concerns over further rainfall.

Kerala Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran described the incident as a "man-made landslide", suggesting that excavation activities at the tunnel construction site may have contributed to the collapse. Officials have begun assessing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Mumbai Receives Nearly 380 mm Rain

Maharashtra witnessed one of its heaviest spells of monsoon rainfall this season, with Mumbai recording nearly 380 mm (15 inches) of rainfall over the past 48 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an Orange Alert for the city, warning of continued heavy to very heavy rainfall.

As a precautionary measure, authorities declared a holiday for all government and private schools and colleges in Mumbai on Tuesday. Similar closures were announced in Nashik, where persistent rainfall disrupted normal life.

The downpour caused extensive waterlogging in several parts of Mumbai, including Vasai-Virar and Nalasopara, affecting roads, residential societies and commercial establishments. Rising water levels were also reported in the Godavari River in Nashik, while the Bhima River crossed the danger mark near Daund.

The Thane district administration prohibited tourists from visiting waterfalls, forts, rivers, dams and lakes until further orders due to the risk of landslides and flash floods.

Cloudburst Triggers Flooding in Jammu & Kashmir

A cloudburst in the upper reaches of Doda district in Jammu & Kashmir sent mud, rocks and debris rushing into residential areas, disrupting road connectivity and damaging vehicles.

Visuals from Thathri town showed floodwaters carrying large quantities of debris through streets, leaving several vehicles stranded. Local authorities have launched damage assessment operations while monitoring vulnerable areas for further rainfall.

Nearby Kishtwar district also witnessed flooding and mudslides, affecting transportation and normal movement.

Heavy Rain Continues Across States

The active monsoon system continued to bring widespread rainfall across western, central and northern India.

In Gujarat, multiple weather systems remained active simultaneously, resulting in heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across South Gujarat and parts of Saurashtra. Several agricultural fields in Junagadh district were submerged after continuous rain.

Rajasthan also remained under the influence of an active monsoon system, prompting the IMD to issue an Orange Alert for seven districts and Yellow Alerts across most remaining parts of the state.

Madhya Pradesh continued to receive widespread rainfall for the sixth consecutive day. According to weather officials, the state's average rainfall has now reached nearly seven inches, reducing the seasonal rainfall deficit to just one per cent after a delayed start to the monsoon.

In Uttar Pradesh, heavy showers were reported in Chandauli, while Lucknow, Varanasi and several eastern districts experienced intermittent rainfall under cloudy skies.

Weather Alerts Remain in Force

The IMD has warned that active monsoon conditions are likely to persist over several parts of the country over the next two days.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast for parts of Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal and Sikkim. Authorities across multiple states have advised residents to avoid flood-prone areas, remain cautious near rivers and landslide-prone zones, and follow official weather advisories.

With rivers rising, transport disrupted and rescue teams on alert in multiple regions, officials continue to closely monitor the evolving weather situation as the monsoon maintains its intense pace across India.

Maharashtra remained the worst-affected, with at least 13 people reported dead over the past three to four days due to rain-related incidents.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Mumbai and surrounding regions under a Red Alert, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by wind speeds of up to 80–90 kmph. Authorities have advised residents to leave their homes only if absolutely necessary, while private offices have been asked to implement work-from-home arrangements.

The Maharashtra Assembly was adjourned for the day because of the severe weather conditions. Speaker Rahul Narwekar said the decision was taken in view of the widespread disruption caused by heavy rainfall across Mumbai and other parts of the state.

Mumbai, Pune Hit by Landslides and Flooding

Continuous rainfall over the past three days triggered two landslides in the Bhor Ghat section between Karjat and Lonavala on the Mumbai–Pune railway route, disrupting operations on all three railway lines and leading to the cancellation of around 20 trains.

Heavy rain also caused a landslide and waterlogging along the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, temporarily affecting traffic before the route was later reopened after clearance operations.

In Pune district, a landslide in Patan village of Maval tehsil buried several houses. Officials confirmed that one person was killed, while 23 people were rescued. Search and rescue teams continued operations to locate two individuals reported missing beneath the debris.

In another incident in Pune, the boundary wall of a residential society collapsed onto a parking shed, damaging around 14 vehicles.

Mumbai Airport Operations Affected

Persistent rainfall also disrupted air travel. According to airport officials, 17 flights were cancelled and 217 flights delayed at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport by Monday afternoon, causing inconvenience to passengers.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared a holiday for schools and colleges and deployed nearly 15,000 officials and emergency personnel to manage rain-related emergencies.

Landslide in Jammu and Kashmir

Heavy rainfall also triggered a landslide in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, where debris buried six to seven vehicles on the Kishtwar–Doda Highway (NH-244). Road clearance operations are underway, while authorities continue to assess the damage.

Flood Situation Worsens Elsewhere

In Gujarat, continuous rainfall caused the Khodiyar Dam in Amreli district to overflow, forcing officials to open two gates and issue a high alert for more than 35 low-lying villages.

Floodwaters also disrupted connectivity in several villages of Una, while National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed for rescue and relief operations across affected areas.

In Madhya Pradesh's Dindori district, rising water levels submerged a bridge over the Turad River, while heavy rainfall caused widespread waterlogging in parts of Haryana, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal.

IMD Issues Multi-State Rain Alerts

The IMD has warned that the active monsoon system will continue to bring widespread rainfall over the next two days.

A depression currently centred over south Jharkhand and adjoining north Odisha is expected to move northwestward, bringing heavy rainfall to Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. Red alerts remain in place for several districts of Odisha and West Bengal, while heavy rain warnings have also been issued for parts of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Goa and Karnataka.

Authorities across affected states have urged residents to remain alert, avoid waterlogged and landslide-prone areas, and follow official advisories as emergency teams continue rescue, relief and restoration efforts.

The southwest monsoon has intensified across large parts of India, bringing widespread flooding, landslides, waterlogging and rain-related accidents. While the monsoon has covered almost the entire country, only a few pockets of Rajasthan and Gujarat are yet to receive complete seasonal coverage. Despite that, persistent rainfall has already disrupted normal life in several states.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh warnings for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across multiple regions, urging residents to remain cautious as the active monsoon phase continues over the weekend.

Gujarat Rescues 19 Stranded in Floodwaters

Gujarat witnessed flood-like conditions after incessant rainfall inundated several low-lying areas.

Near Samadhiyala village in Junagadh district's Mendarda region, four vehicles became stranded after floodwaters submerged the road. Rescue teams successfully evacuated all 19 occupants without any injuries.

Mangrol emerged as one of the worst-hit areas, recording over 22 inches of rainfall within 24 hours, leading to severe flooding and disruption of road connectivity.

Authorities also issued Local Cautionary Signal-III (LC-III) at Veraval Port in Gir Somnath district following forecasts of rough seas and strong winds. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the Arabian Sea until conditions improve.

Maharashtra Faces Severe Waterlogging

Heavy showers continued to lash several districts of Maharashtra, resulting in extensive urban flooding.

Outside Nalasopara railway station, commuters were seen wading through knee-deep water to reach the platforms as roads became submerged.

In view of the worsening weather, educational institutions in Palghar district have been ordered to remain closed.

The IMD has also issued a Red Alert for Mumbai, forecasting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours.

To strengthen monsoon preparedness, the Maharashtra government has deployed a 36-member State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team in Nanded district until September.

Madhya Pradesh Records Rain-Related Incidents

Heavy rainfall affected more than 26 districts across Madhya Pradesh, including Bhopal, Indore and Ujjain.

A tragic incident was reported from Ujjain, where a man attempting to cross a flooded culvert on his motorcycle was swept away by the strong current. Search efforts were initiated following the incident.

The IMD has issued a Red Alert for Barwani and Khandwa, warning of extremely heavy rainfall, with some areas expected to receive up to eight inches of rain over the next 24 hours.

Heavy rainfall warnings have also been issued for Indore, Ujjain and several adjoining districts.

Rajasthan Hospital Flooded

In Jaipur, continuous rainfall led to water entering the Minor Operation Theatre (OT) at Sawai Man Singh Hospital.

Hospital authorities immediately shifted patients and medical equipment to safer locations to ensure that treatment services were not affected.

Several parts of the Pink City also witnessed traffic congestion due to waterlogging.

Uttar Pradesh Battles Urban Flooding

The monsoon remained active across Uttar Pradesh, where rainfall was reported in nearly 20 districts.

Kanpur experienced one of its wettest days in recent years as the campus of GSVM Medical College was inundated, leaving parked cars and motorcycles partially submerged.

In Mathura, heavy waterlogging disrupted movement at a railway underpass, while a farmer lost his life after being struck by lightning in Jhansi during a thunderstorm.

The IMD has issued rainfall and thunderstorm alerts for 28 districts across the state.

Landslide Hits Jammu and Kashmir

Continuous rainfall also triggered a landslide in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, disrupting traffic and affecting road connectivity.

Authorities are monitoring vulnerable stretches as rainfall continues across the Himalayan region.

Monsoon Expected to Cover Entire Country Ahead of Schedule

After arriving in India three days later than its usual onset in early June, the southwest monsoon has regained momentum.

Meteorologists now expect the monsoon to cover the entire country around three days ahead of schedule, aided by favourable weather systems over the Bay of Bengal.

Looking ahead, the IMD has forecast heavy rainfall over parts of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Telangana, Kerala, Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh over the next two days.

Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from flooded roads and rivers, and closely follow official weather advisories as the active monsoon spell is expected to continue through the weekend.

Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand were among the worst-affected as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued fresh alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall over the coming days.

In Madhya Pradesh, the southwest monsoon has now covered the entire state within nine days. The IMD has forecast 4 to 8 inches of rainfall over the next 24 hours in Dhar, Barwani, Khargone and Dewas districts. In Ujjain, the rising water level of the Shipra (Kshipra) River submerged a temple near the famous Ram Ghat, with visuals showing water inundating the riverside shrine.

Meanwhile, Gujarat witnessed severe waterlogging after intense rainfall. Roads in Valsad district remained submerged, disrupting traffic and leaving several vehicles stranded. In Jamnagar, two children were swept away by strong floodwaters but were rescued safely by local residents before any major tragedy occurred.

In Himachal Pradesh, heavy overnight rain triggered a landslide in the Choling area of Kinnaur district. Massive debris rolled onto the national highway, burying two vehicles. State authorities said at least 49 roads have been closed following multiple rain-related incidents across the hill state, while restoration work is underway.

Heavy rain also affected Uttar Pradesh, where showers lashed Lucknow, Barabanki, Unnao, Jalaun and several neighbouring districts during the early hours of Friday. Water entered residential areas in parts of Unnao, disrupting normal life and causing inconvenience to residents.

In Rajasthan, intermittent rainfall continued for the second consecutive day. The IMD issued a red alert for Kota, Baran and Jhalawar districts, warning of extremely heavy rainfall and the possibility of flooding in low-lying areas.

The situation remained challenging in Uttarakhand, where continuous rainfall triggered landslides in Rudraprayag, Chamoli and nearby districts. Falling rocks and debris blocked stretches of the Badrinath and Kedarnath highways, prompting authorities to temporarily suspend the Kedarnath Yatra as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of pilgrims.

IMD Issues Fresh Rain Alerts

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected on July 4 over Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Odisha, Kerala, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal and Sikkim.

Strong winds with speeds of 50–60 kmph are likely over Bihar, while gusty winds are also expected in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, eastern Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. Heatwave conditions may continue in isolated areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh despite ongoing monsoon activity.

On July 5, heavy rainfall is likely over Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Odisha, with isolated heavy showers expected in Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal and Sikkim. The weather department has also issued an orange alert for Sikkim, Goa, Telangana and Karnataka.

Monsoon Nears Nationwide Coverage

The southwest monsoon, which reached Kerala on June 4, experienced a temporary slowdown during June due to break monsoon-like conditions. However, favourable weather systems over the Bay of Bengal have accelerated its progress.

According to the IMD, the monsoon is now expected to cover the entire country by July 5, three days ahead of its normal nationwide coverage date of July 8, bringing more widespread rainfall to the remaining parts of northwest India in the coming days.

Monsoon Immunity Booster: 5 Natural Health Hacks to Stay Healthy This Rainy Season

The southwest monsoon has arrived across most parts of India, bringing relief from the scorching summer heat. However, the season also brings a spike in seasonal infections, digestive issues and respiratory illnesses.

Health experts are now recommending simple, natural immunity boosters that can be easily incorporated into daily routines. As humidity rises and temperatures fluctuate, the body's immune system faces constant challenges.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast below-normal rainfall for July, with monthly rainfall expected to be less than 94 per cent of the long period average. This unusual weather pattern, coupled with a 40 per cent rainfall deficit in June, makes it even more critical for individuals to take proactive steps toward strengthening their natural defences.

Health experts emphasise that the most effective immunity boosters are often found in Indian kitchens. Turmeric, a staple in every household, contains curcumin, a powerful compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Regularly incorporating turmeric into meals may help support normal immune function. Pairing turmeric with black pepper enhances curcumin absorption significantly.

Amla, or Indian gooseberry, is another powerhouse ingredient. Packed with vitamin C and antioxidants, amla strengthens the immune system and protects the body against oxidative stress.

Ginger, a kitchen staple, supports healthy digestion, helps relieve bloating, and provides a warming effect during damp weather. It may also support respiratory health by soothing throat irritation.

Tulsi, or holy basil, is one of Ayurveda's most celebrated herbs for supporting immunity and respiratory health. Rich in antioxidants, tulsi helps the body cope with seasonal coughs, colds and allergy-related discomfort. A warm cup of tulsi tea can be a simple yet effective wellness habit during the rainy season.

While these Ayurvedic ingredients have stood the test of time, experts stress they should be viewed as part of a holistic lifestyle. A balanced diet, safe drinking water, adequate sleep, regular physical activity and good personal hygiene remain the foundation of good health during the monsoon.

The 'Ritu Suraksha-2026' programme, launched under the AYUSH department at Mar Sleeva Medicity in Pala, Kerala, aims to prevent illnesses and ensure health protection during the monsoon. The programme offers traditional treatments including panchakarma therapies, along with counselling on diet, lifestyle changes and healthy daily routines.

Health professionals advise eating loads of seasonal fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C to prevent infections. Probiotics present in curd and fermented foods build immune response. Indian herbs like turmeric, coriander, fenugreek, mustard, asafoetida, ginger, curry leaves and garlic all help boost immunity.

As the monsoon continues to unfold across the country, incorporating these natural health hacks into daily life could make a significant difference in staying healthy and infection-free throughout the rainy season. Health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with the Ministry of Ayush promoting traditional wellness practices alongside modern healthcare interventions.

As the 2026 monsoon season intensifies across India, Ayurveda experts are recommending simple daily life habits to maintain wellness during the rainy months.

According to Ayurveda, the monsoon or Varsha Ritu is considered a season when the digestive fire (Agni) becomes weaker. The damp weather increases Vata, making the body feel sluggish, bloated, tired or simply out of balance.

One of the most effective natural health hacks for monsoon is sipping warm ginger-coriander water through the day. Simply boil a small piece of ginger with a few coriander seeds and let it cool slightly before sipping. Ginger supports digestion while coriander brings balance and lightness. This simple daily habit provides warmth from the inside out and helps combat the heavy, bloated feeling common during the rainy season.

Monsoon is not the season to let digestion nap. Ayurveda recommends adding small digestive spices to daily meals that gently support Agni. A pinch of black pepper, fresh ginger, jeera (cumin), ajwain or hing in dals can make a significant difference. Even a small tempering in food can make meals feel lighter and easier to digest during rainy weather.

As comforting as cold drinks or raw salads may seem, Ayurveda sees monsoon as a time to lean into warm, freshly cooked meals. Khichdi, warm dals, light sabzis, soups and a little ghee for nourishment are recommended. This does not mean one cannot enjoy pakoras in the rain; it simply means giving the body foods that feel comforting and easier to digest most of the time.

An Ayurvedic ritual more people should know about is Pada Abhyanga — oiling the feet before bed. Massaging the soles of the feet with warm sesame oil or warm ghee for just 2 to 5 minutes can be deeply grounding. Rainy weather increases Vata, which may show up as restlessness, poor sleep, body stiffness or feeling mentally scattered. This tiny daily ritual helps calm the nervous system.

In many Indian homes, monsoon meant more than just hot tea. Traditionally, people would burn natural cleansing herbs like sambrani, guggal, neem leaves or camphor around the home. Ayurveda sees monsoon as a damp, heavy season. Creating warmth and freshness indoors was believed to help balance that feeling. Even today, lighting dhoop or creating a cosy, clean space can feel surprisingly comforting.

Skin often feels sticky or dull during the rainy season. Ayurveda recommends swapping heavy body care for gentle herbal ubtans made from natural ingredients. These traditional formulations help cleanse without stripping the skin of its natural moisture.

As the monsoon season progresses, Ayurveda experts suggest maintaining consistency with these daily habits rather than seeking quick fixes. The key lies in small, sustainable changes that work with the body's natural rhythms during this transformative season.
