As soon as the temple doors opened, priests performed traditional worship of all deities seated in the sanctum sanctorum. This was followed by the Abhishek of Lord Mahakal with:

Holy water

Panchamrit prepared from milk, curd, ghee, honey, and fruit juices

After the abhishek, a crescent moon (Chandra) was offered on the Lord’s forehead, enhancing the divine and celestial appearance of the deity.

Special Decoration with Bilva Leaves and Flowers

Before the offering of sacred ash, the first Ghanta Aarti was performed and Lord Mahakal was worshipped with Hari Om water amid Vedic chants and meditation. After the Camphor Aarti, the Jyotirlinga was covered with cloth and the sacred Bhasma was applied.

Following the Bhasma Aarti, Lord Mahakaleshwar was beautifully adorned with:

Silver crown of Sheshnag

Silver Mund Mala

Rudraksha garland

Fragrant flowers and garlands of Bilva leaves

The entire sanctum resonated with devotion and spiritual energy.

Devotees Witnessed Darshan from Home

Devotees from across India and abroad arrived in Ujjain to witness the divine Bhasma Aarti. At the same time, a large number of devotees participated in online darshan, experiencing the sacred rituals from their homes. The spiritual significance of the Aarti increased further due to the Purnima tithi.

Special Significance of Bhasma Aarti on Purnima

According to religious beliefs, witnessing the Bhasma Aarti of Lord Mahakal on Paush Purnima grants:

Freedom from fear

Mental peace

Prosperity and happiness

Attainment of salvation (Moksha)

This is why an extraordinary wave of devotion and faith is seen in the temple on this auspicious day.
