Newlywed Bride, 18, Ends Life in Chhattisgarh,Called Husband Home Before Suicide

An 18-year-old newlywed bride allegedly died by suicide in her home in the KP village under the Kotwali police station limits. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community.

The young bride, identified as Pooja Giri, locked herself in a room on Sunday evening. Family members had to break through the roof to recover her body.

Desperate Call to Husband

According to police sources, Pooja first called her husband, Mukesh Giri (19), asking him to come home. She complained of feeling unwell and requested he bring medicine.

When Mukesh arrived, she reportedly complained of nausea. In a normal conversation, she hugged him. Minutes later, she suddenly rushed inside a room and bolted the door from within.

Family Breaks Through Roof

Hearing no response from inside, the family panicked. They climbed onto the roof and broke through the tiles to enter the room.

Officials stated that Pooja was found hanging from a saree noose. She was brought down immediately, but had already died.

Marriage Lasted 2.5 Months

The couple had married just two and a half months ago following social customs. Both families reside in the Udaypur block area.

Preliminary investigations suggest no history of major domestic disputes. However, the husband told police that his wife would get upset over small matters.

Husband Recounts Mood Swings

During questioning, Mukesh Giri stated he had gone to learn dance on the evening of the incident. He said Pooja often became irritated without significant reason.

“She was vomiting when I reached home. Nothing seemed unusual until she locked herself in,” Mukesh told investigators. Police are verifying his timeline of events.

Police Investigation Underway

Local police arrived at the scene immediately after receiving the information. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination on Monday in the presence of a judicial magistrate.

In a significant development, the woman’s maternal family has not filed any formal complaint against the husband or his family yet. Officials confirm no arrests have been made so far.
