“The southwest monsoon is expected to advance into parts of Chhattisgarh over the next two to three days,” an official from the India Meteorological Department said. On Monday evening, residents in parts of Raipur and Durg districts saw a sudden change in weather. The Bhilai township in Durg experienced a spell of heavy rain, while several pockets in the capital also received short-lived showers.

The weather department has said that monsoon conditions are becoming favourable for further advance into Chhattisgarh, with officials pointing to increased moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal. However, widespread monsoon conditions are yet to set in across the state.

Temperature remains high

Despite the cloud cover and intermittent rain, the heat continues to persist in most parts. Rajnandgaon remained the hottest location in the state, recording a maximum of 43.5 degrees Celsius. Ambikapur saw the lowest minimum temperature at 24.5 degrees.
