Truck–pick‑up collision near Pachor Civil Polytechnic late Monday night kills two women; 16 seriously injured patients moved to Shajapur district hospital

A late‑night truck–pick‑up collision near the Pachor Civil Polytechnic College in Rajgarh district has left two women dead and 21 people injured, triggering a rush of medical teams and local officials at the Pachor civil hospital. The incident occurred on Monday around 9:30 pm when a speeding, reportedly uncontrolled truck coming from the Pachor side smashed into a pick‑up carrying a Yadav family returning from a religious outing at Barkhera Maamera near Berwara in Rajgarh.timesofindia.

Collision near Pachor Polytechnic

Police and local residents told this news desk that the pick‑up was travelling from Khunjner’s Mawasa village in Rajgarh towards Barkhera Maamera when the collision happened just before reaching the Pachor town limits, close to the Pachor Civil Polytechnic College. The truck struck the side or rear of the pick‑up with such force that the vehicle overturned, leaving passengers scattered along the carriageway.

Initial reports indicate that the pick‑up was carrying 20 members of the Yadav family along with the driver, while the truck driver was also thrown out of control and badly injured in the impact.timesofindia.

Two women die in Shajapur

All the injured were first rushed to the Pachor civil hospital, where doctors began triage and first‑aid treatment. Given the severity of multiple fractures, chest injuries and head trauma, district authorities decided to shift 16 of the most seriously injured patients to the Shajapur district hospital for advanced care.

At the Shajapur hospital, two women could not be revived despite intensive treatment. The deceased were identified as Bhagwati Bai, wife of Chandr Singh, and Awanti Bai, wife of Gopal, both residents of Mawasa village in Rajgarh district. Their bodies were taken to the hospital mortuary for post‑mortem and are scheduled to be handed over to the families on Tuesday after the autopsy.

Ground‑level chaos at hospital

The arrival of more than 20 injured persons in quick succession created near‑chaos at the Pachor civil hospital, with attendants and relatives scrambling to reach the emergency wing. Doctors on duty, including Dr Vijaya Gautam, Dr Insaf Ansari, Dr Manish Yadav, Dr Rahul Sisodia, Dr Harish Vishwakarma and supporting staff, began stabilising the patients while arranging ambulance dispatches to Shajapur.timesofindia.

Among those admitted were several members of the Yadav family, including Kamla Bai (wife of Hokam Singh), Laxminala Yadav, Hokam Singh son of Gangaram, Rajesh son of Mangilal, Kamla Bai wife of Devnaryan, Ramratan son of Gopal (with chest injury), Kamla Bai wife of Gopal Yadav, Prem Singh Yadav, Nankaram son of Nathulal, Bhagwati wife of Prem Singh, Dev Singh son of Bhav Singh, Suresh son of Mangilal, Komal Bai wife of Prabhulal, Awanti Bai wife of Gopal, Radha wife of Navin Yadav, Yogesh son of Hemraj Yadav, Manju wife of Ajay Singh, Pawan son of Prem Singh and Bhagwati son of Chandr Singh.

Driver in police custody

The truck driver, who also sustained multiple injuries, was taken to a private hospital in Pachor under police custody while investigations continue. Officials said speed and alleged loss of control on the approach road to Pachor are likely factors, but the formal police report is still being compiled.timesofindia.

Initial reports from local police and eyewitnesses suggest that the truck was travelling at high speed and may have drifted into the oncoming lane or failed to notice the pick‑up in time, especially given the relatively narrow stretch near the polytechnic area.

Official response and onward care

News of the crash prompted visits by local political and administrative leaders, including Rajgarh MP Rodmal Nagar, Sub‑Divisional Magistrate Rohit Bhamore, SDOP Arvind Singh, tehsildar and Pachor police station in‑charge, all of whom reached the Pachor hospital to monitor treatment arrangements and ensure adequate medical support.

Sixteen of the 21 injured, including those with critical fractures and internal injuries, were moved to Shajapur district hospital, while the remaining were kept under observation at Pachor. The pick‑up driver, Devi Singh Yadav, was found with fractures in his chest and right leg and has been referred to Bhopal for further orthopaedic care.

Road‑safety concerns in the region

The accident has once again spotlighted recurring road‑safety issues on highways and approach roads of small towns like Pachor, where speeding heavy vehicles and overcrowded private pickups mix with local traffic under often inadequate lighting.

For now, the Yadav family’s festive journey to Barkhera Maamera has turned into mourning, as the two women are being laid to rest in Mawasa while the rest of the injured struggle to recover from fractures, internal injuries and shock.

The incident occurred in Gurjar Mohana village when a wedding procession was moving from Sajnipura to Badipura. Eyewitnesses described the atmosphere as festive just moments before chaos unfolded.

According to eyewitness Rajesh Rathore, the accident took place around 11 am.
The vehicle then surged forward uncontrollably and plowed into the group of people dancing in front of it. Several baraatis were dragged for nearly 100 meters before the vehicle finally crashed into a neem tree and overturned.
