In a disturbing incident reported as the Jhabua student suicide case, a 23-year-old woman allegedly ended her life by jumping in front of a moving goods train near Thandla Road railway station in Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua district on Monday evening. The incident occurred around 4:45 pm when the Up line freight train was passing through the section.

According to officials, the impact of the collision was severe, and the woman died on the spot. Railway and Government Railway Police (GRP) teams reached the location shortly after receiving information from locals.

Incident Near Railway Track

The incident took place close to Thandla Road station, approximately a few kilometres from the district headquarters. As per preliminary information, the woman was seen near the railway track moments before the train arrived.

Locals alerted authorities after witnessing the aftermath. Police immediately secured the area and diverted movement around the track for investigation and recovery procedures.

Victim Identified By Police

Officials identified the deceased as Vimla (23), daughter of Kalu Helot, a resident of Sajeli Naniya village under Meghnagar tehsil. The identification was confirmed after documents were recovered from the scene.

The teenager reportedly took the extreme step on Wednesday afternoon, shortly after the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) declared the results for the senior secondary examinations.

The deceased has been identified as Shivani Ahirwar, daughter of Suresh Ahirwar, a resident of Sunati village. According to local authorities, the student was distressed after finding out she had failed to clear her examinations.

Fatal step after results

The incident occurred just hours after the result link went live on the official board website. Family members stated that Shivani appeared visibly upset upon checking her marks.

In a moment of despair, she consumed a poisonous substance at her residence. Her family rushed her to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Naugaon as soon as her condition deteriorated.

Referred to District Hospital

Medical officers at the CHC provided preliminary treatment, but her condition remained critical. Due to the severity of the poisoning, she was immediately referred to the Chhatarpur District Hospital for specialized care.

Despite the efforts of the medical team at the district facility, Shivani passed away during treatment. The hospital authorities subsequently alerted the local police regarding the medico-legal case.
