A major fire broke out in Rewa Transport Nagar in the early hours of Sunday, gutting at least 10 shops in the city’s Civil Lines police station area. The blaze erupted around 2 am and spread rapidly after a suspected short circuit triggered flames inside one of the commercial units, according to officials.

Police and fire brigade teams rushed to the spot soon after local residents raised the alarm. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after several hours of operation, preventing the fire from spreading further across the commercial stretch.

Shops Reduced To Ashes

The fire caused extensive damage to nearly 10 shops, most of which were reportedly dealing in automobile-related goods, including tyres. Officials said the presence of highly combustible material accelerated the spread of flames, leaving several establishments completely destroyed.

Eyewitnesses said the fire intensified within minutes and engulfed adjoining shops before emergency teams could fully contain it. Thick smoke and high flames triggered panic in the area, forcing nearby residents and shopkeepers to move to safety.

Tyres Fuelled Blaze

According to preliminary inputs, the fire began in one shop and quickly spread due to the large quantity of tyres stored inside and around the affected units. The combustible stock turned the incident into a high-intensity commercial fire, making firefighting operations difficult.

Locals said flames leapt from one shop to another as tyres continued to burn, creating dense smoke and intense heat. The fire’s rapid spread raised concerns about a larger disaster in the crowded business zone.

Fire Teams Respond Fast

Fire tenders reached the spot soon after the alert was issued, while police personnel secured the area to prevent casualties and maintain access for emergency response. Firefighters launched a coordinated operation and managed to contain the blaze before it spread to nearby establishments.

Residents said the timely arrival of the fire brigade helped avert a much larger incident. Had the flames reached adjoining rows of shops, the losses could have been significantly higher, sources indicated.

Probe Underway

Police have registered the case and initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire. While a short circuit is suspected to have triggered the incident, officials said the exact cause will be confirmed only after technical inspection and assessment.

Authorities are also examining whether fire safety norms were in place and if inflammable commercial stock was stored in violation of prescribed guidelines. A detailed damage assessment is currently underway.

Loss Assessment Begins

Revenue and police officials have begun evaluating the scale of losses suffered by traders in the affected market. While no casualties have been reported so far, the financial impact on shop owners is expected to be substantial.

The affected businesses were largely dependent on daily trade, and the incident is likely to disrupt commercial activity in the area for several days. As per reports, traders have sought compensation and a formal review of fire preparedness in the market.

Safety Questions Raised

The Rewa Transport Nagar fire has once again raised questions over fire safety enforcement in dense commercial clusters where inflammable goods are routinely stored. The incident has drawn attention to emergency preparedness, electrical safety checks and compliance gaps in local business zones. With the investigation now underway, officials are expected to review safety protocols in the area to prevent similar incidents.

Three Accused Attack Victim

In a shocking incident late on 19 April, three men allegedly beat up an auto driver and robbed him just metres away from the Civil Lines police station. The accused took his mobile phone and Rs 1,500 in cash before fleeing the spot.

Attack Happened Close to Thana

The victim, Rabbu Sondhiya, a resident near Tiwari Hotel in Rewa, stated that three young men boarded his auto from College Chowk. He later identified them as Nihal Shrivastava, Shubham Pandey, and Lal Patel.

As he drove near the Civil Lines police station, the trio suddenly turned violent. They punched him, snatched his phone, and grabbed the cash kept beside him.

Accused Knew the Victim

Sondhiya told the police that the accused had been harassing him for some time. He claimed they had threatened to beat him up on multiple occasions in the past. The latest assault, however, took a more serious turn with the loot.

Police Begin Probe

Following the complaint, Civil Lines police registered an application and launched an investigation. Officers confirmed that multiple teams are now looking for the three absconding accused.

“We have taken the victim’s statement. Raids are being conducted at possible locations,” a police official said on condition of anonymity.

Brazen Act Raises Safety Concerns

The incident has left locals surprised, given that the crime occurred barely a stone’s throw from the police station. Residents questioned how three men could commit such an act without fear of immediate arrest.

Authorities have not yet released an official statement on the lapses, but sources indicated that patrolling near the station will be reviewed.

Victim Demands Quick Action

Sondhiya has appealed for strict action against the accused. He also expressed fear of further retaliation, given the prior threats. Police assured him that necessary steps would be taken once the accused are caught.

What Happens Next

Civil Lines police are scanning CCTV footage from nearby establishments. Officials expect to make arrests soon. The investigation will also examine whether the accused have a prior criminal record. A formal FIR is expected once the primary probe confirms all allegations.
