Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer Anil Kumar Damor, who had recently been transferred from the post of Additional Collector in Vidisha to a new assignment in Bhopal, died on Tuesday after suffering a heart attack. He was a 2019-batch IAS officer.

According to reports, Damor's health suddenly deteriorated on Tuesday morning following which he was taken to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Medical College in Vidisha. Doctors declared him dead after examination.

His sudden death has triggered grief among administrative officials and employees in Vidisha and across the state government machinery. Colleagues and associates reached the medical college after receiving the news. His post-mortem was being conducted at the hospital, according to the reports.

Recently transferred to Bhopal

Damor had been serving as Additional Collector in Vidisha. In a recent reshuffle of 32 IAS officers in Madhya Pradesh, the state government transferred him from Vidisha to the Panchayat and Rural Development Department in Bhopal as Deputy Secretary. (Amar Ujala)

The transfer had come shortly before his death. He was preparing to take up his new assignment in Bhopal after being relieved from his Vidisha posting.

The Vidisha district administration's official website had also listed Anil Kumar Damor as Additional Collector in its administrative directory, confirming his association with the post. (Vidisha District Website)

Colleagues remember his approachable nature

Colleagues described Damor as a cordial and approachable officer who maintained a friendly rapport with both fellow officers and government employees.

His colleagues recalled his informal and accessible manner of working, saying he was known for interacting with staff without the distance often associated with senior administrative positions.

His sudden death has therefore been felt not only as the loss of a government officer but also as the loss of a colleague and friend within the administrative establishment.

Administrative career in Madhya Pradesh

Damor had held administrative responsibilities in Madhya Pradesh before serving as Additional Collector in Vidisha.

His tenure in Vidisha included responsibilities related to district-level administration and coordination with various government departments. Records from the Vidisha district administration show him serving as Additional Collector in the district. (Vidisha District Website)

Reports also indicate that he had been associated with several administrative assignments during his career.

Family from Jhabua

Damor was originally from Jhabua district in Madhya Pradesh. He is survived by his wife and two children.

According to the information available, his son is studying in Class 11, while his daughter is also pursuing her education.

His death came shortly after his transfer to a new responsibility in the state capital, making the news particularly difficult for his colleagues and associates who had expected to see him take charge of his next assignment.

The cause of death has been reported as a heart attack based on the information available at the time of publication. Details concerning the post-mortem and any subsequent official medical confirmation may be updated as authorities release further information.

FATF vice-president Vivek Aggarwal, a 1994-batch IAS officer, will help steer global efforts against money laundering and terror financing.

India has secured a significant position in the global financial governance framework with the election of senior bureaucrat Vivek Aggarwal as vice-president of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the international body responsible for combating money laundering, terrorist financing and other threats to the global financial system.

The appointment is being viewed as a diplomatic and institutional achievement for India, reflecting the country's growing influence in shaping international standards related to financial security and illicit financial flows.

The Ministry of External Affairs described the development as an important milestone that reinforces India's commitment to strengthening global cooperation against terrorism and terror financing.

Key Global Position

The FATF is regarded as the world's foremost watchdog on money laundering and terrorist financing. It develops international standards and monitors compliance by countries across the globe.

As vice-president, Aggarwal will play a key role in supporting the organisation's leadership and contributing to policy discussions involving financial crime, illicit fund transfers and emerging global risks.

The position is considered one of the most influential within the FATF structure after the presidency.

Veteran IAS Officer

Vivek Aggarwal is a 1994-batch Indian Administrative Service officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre and currently serves as Secretary in the Ministry of Culture.

Over a career spanning more than three decades, he has held several important positions in both state and central governments. His experience covers public administration, economic governance, revenue management and financial oversight.

Before taking charge in the Culture Ministry, Aggarwal also served as Additional Secretary in the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance, where he dealt with matters linked to taxation, financial regulation and economic policy.

Experience With FATF

Aggarwal is no stranger to the international financial watchdog.

He has previously represented India at FATF meetings and discussions, giving him direct experience in the organisation's functioning and policy framework.

He also served as the head of the Financial Intelligence Unit-India (FIU-IND), the agency responsible for receiving, analysing and disseminating information related to suspicious financial transactions.

During his tenure, he worked extensively on issues concerning economic offences, anti-money laundering measures, financial intelligence gathering and enforcement coordination.

India's Growing Influence

Government officials say the election reflects increasing international confidence in India's contribution to financial governance and counter-terrorism efforts.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the appointment underscores India's expanding role in shaping global responses to illicit financial activities. The ministry noted that India has consistently advocated stronger international mechanisms to curb terror financing networks and improve transparency within financial systems.

The development also comes at a time when global regulators are paying greater attention to digital payments, virtual assets and emerging technologies that can potentially be exploited for financial crimes.

Recognition Of Credibility

The Ministry of Culture described Aggarwal's election as recognition of India's growing credibility among the international community.

Officials said the country has emerged as an important voice in discussions involving financial inclusion, digital payment ecosystems and regulatory frameworks designed to prevent misuse of financial channels.

India's expanding role in international financial institutions has also been supported by its experience in implementing large-scale digital governance and payment infrastructure.

Focus On Financial Security

FATF recommendations serve as the benchmark for anti-money laundering and counter-terror financing regulations adopted by countries worldwide. The organisation's assessments often influence investment decisions, banking relationships and international financial cooperation.

Aggarwal's appointment is expected to provide India with greater visibility in ongoing discussions on financial integrity, enforcement mechanisms and emerging challenges facing the global financial system.

As FATF continues to address increasingly complex threats ranging from organised crime financing to cross-border terror networks, India's presence in the leadership structure is likely to strengthen its contribution to shaping international standards and policy responses.

Charge Assumed
IAS officer Akshat Jain took charge as Rewa Municipal Commissioner on Thursday. The 2019-batch Madhya Pradesh cadre officer met staff and inspected offices right away. Sources say he replaces Sanjay Sonawane, transferred earlier this month.

Quick Review
Jain scanned ongoing development works and basic services during his first hours. Officials noted his focus on pending civic complaints. He toured the corporation complex to gauge daily operations.indianmasterminds

Priority Set
The new commissioner stressed fast resolution of public issues alongside city growth. Transparency and deadlines will mark his tenure, he indicated to staff. Better amenities for residents top his list.

Past Role
Before Rewa, Jain served as CEO of Betul Zila Panchayat since July 2023. Rural schemes thrived under him, earning praise from state circles. His IIT Guwahati background adds tech edge to admin skills.

Admin Shift
Madhya Pradesh ordered the reshuffle to boost district efficiency. Rewa's top post stayed vacant post-Sonawane's move to Betul Collectorate. Jain's post fits larger bureaucratic tweaks.

City Impact
Rewa eyes faster progress on Smart Cities projects due in 2026, like better water and sanitation. Locals hope his drive tackles waste and roads amid prior delays. Industrial hubs nearby could gain momentum too.

Road Ahead
Jain's team will map quick wins on complaints first. Watch for updates on project speeds and service upgrades in coming weeks. His style promises real change in Rewa Municipal Commissioner duties, per latest India news update.
