A horrifying incident unfolded in Delhi's upscale Kailash Hills locality on Wednesday morning when a 22-year-old woman, daughter of a senior Income Tax Department officer, was brutally murdered inside her family home. The accused, identified as 19-year-old Rahul Meena, raped the victim before strangling her with a mobile phone charging cable. Delhi Police arrested Meena at the scene after swift investigation and CCTV analysis revealed his involvement in the crime.

The victim was alone at home when the intruder struck. Her parents had stepped out to their regular gymnasium session, leaving their daughter vulnerable to the attack. According to police records, Meena had been dismissed from his position as a domestic help approximately six weeks prior, following a financial dispute with the family.

Accused Exploited Routine Knowledge

Investigation disclosed that Rahul Meena possessed detailed knowledge of the family's daily schedule and household layout. Police officials stated that he was fully aware of the timing of the victim's parents' morning gymnasium visits. More critically, Meena knew the location of the hidden duplicate key used by servants to access the premises from outside the house. He utilised this key to gain unauthorised entry at approximately 6:30 AM.

Joint Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar revealed during a press briefing that surveillance footage captured Meena entering and exiting the residence. He remained inside the house for roughly 40 to 45 minutes before departing around 7:15 AM. CCTV evidence proved instrumental in establishing his presence and movements during the critical timeframe.

Debt-Ridden Gamer's Motive

Investigations uncovered that the accused suffered from severe online gaming addiction, which had plunged him into considerable financial distress. According to police reports, Meena had gambled away substantial sums and subsequently borrowed money from neighbouring domestic workers. When he failed to repay these debts, matters escalated to the victim's father, resulting in Meena's termination from employment.

Police stated that financial desperation and resentment over job loss likely motivated the crime. The accused's mounting gambling debts and resulting social humiliation within the domestic worker community appear to have triggered the violent outburst. Meena apparently harboured grievances against his former employer following dismissal over the financial transaction dispute.

Stolen Valuables Recovered

During the commission of the crime, Meena allegedly stole approximately two lakh rupees in cash along with jewellery from the residence. The stolen items were later seized by police during investigation and recovery operations. The IRS officer had reported the theft to authorities while filing the complaint, providing investigators with additional leads for apprehension and material recovery.

Video evidence from CCTV cameras positioned at the victim's room entrance provided real-time footage accessible on both the victim's and her father's mobile devices. This technological security measure proved crucial in establishing the timeline and identifying the perpetrator within hours of the incident.

Clothing Changes Captured on Camera

Surveillance footage revealed significant details regarding Meena's appearance and behaviour during the crime. He was observed wearing black trousers and a yellow shirt upon entering the house. Following the attack, he changed into white trousers while retaining the yellow shirt, attempting to alter his appearance as he fled the scene with a shoulder bag containing stolen items.

The deliberate change of clothing suggests premeditation and consciousness of guilt. Police investigators noted that despite attempts to disguise himself, the retention of the distinctive yellow shirt and clear CCTV footage enabled rapid identification and arrest. The footage sequence provided chronological evidence of movements within and outside the residence.

Connected to Rajasthan Sexual Assault Case

Investigation into Meena's background revealed an even more disturbing pattern. Alwar Police discovered that Meena had committed a sexual assault in Rajgarh police station area, Rajasthan, approximately eight hours before the Delhi murder. On the night of April 21 at around 11 PM, he forcibly entered the residence of a married woman and raped her at knife-point.

The Rajasthan victim reported that Meena had transported her husband to a wedding ceremony by motorcycle, then returned to the house during the husband's absence. He threatened to kill the woman while committing the assault. When the husband returned, the couple immediately filed a police complaint against Meena. This prior crime establishes a disturbing escalation in violent criminal behaviour within a short timespan.

Victim Remembered as Exceptional

Greater Kailash MLA Shikha Roy issued a statement mourning the loss, describing the victim as an exceptionally talented individual. According to Roy, the 22-year-old was a brilliant student who completed her engineering degree from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. She was actively engaged in civil service examination preparation with dedicated focus and commitment.

Beyond academic achievements, the victim was accomplished in cultural pursuits, participating in dance and various artistic activities. Those who knew her described her humble nature and genuine connection with family and community members. Her disciplined approach to studies and exceptional ethical character distinguished her among peers. The senseless loss represents a tragic waste of considerable potential and promise.
