Rewa Rescue Operation for Two Missing in Rivers

SDRF teams resumed searches in Rewa for a 14-year-old boy and 18-year-old youth swept away in the Bichhiya and Tamas rivers.

A fresh rescue operation was launched in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district on Wednesday to trace a 14-year-old boy and an 18-year-old youth who were swept away in separate river incidents on Nag Panchami. Both went missing after being caught in strong currents in the Bichhiya and Tamas rivers on Monday evening. SDRF teams searched for them through Tuesday but could not locate either of them. The operation was stopped after darkness and resumed the next morning.

The first incident took place near Itar in the Gudh police station area, where 14-year-old Shiva Rawat, son of Pradhan Rawat and a resident of Ganganiva in Deotalab, fell into the Bichhiya River. According to the information available, Shiva had reached the riverbank on Nag Panchami and was crossing a bridge when he reportedly lost his footing and fell into the swollen river. The current was strong, and he was swept away before anyone could reach him.

The second incident was reported from Chilla Ghat in the Teonthar area. Eighteen-year-old Sahil Ansari, son of Kamaluddin and a resident of Kharra Tola in Mauganj, was bathing in the Tamas River with a friend when he was caught in the current. His companion managed to get out of the water, but Sahil was swept away. Information about the incident was subsequently given to the authorities, following which a search operation was launched.

SDRF teams conducted searches at both locations throughout Tuesday. The swollen rivers and strong currents made the operation difficult, with rescuers having to search different stretches of the waterways. Despite several hours of effort, there was no confirmed trace of either Shiva or Sahil. The search was called off after darkness because continuing the operation in low visibility and strong currents could have created additional risks for the rescue teams.

The search resumed on Wednesday morning. SDRF personnel and divers were deployed at the two rivers, with teams checking possible locations where the victims could have been carried by the current. The search is also being extended downstream based on the direction of the water flow.

Family members of both missing persons have been waiting for updates from the rescue teams. The exact locations where the two may have been carried remain unclear, and officials are continuing the search based on the river conditions and available information. The situation was still developing when the operation resumed, with teams expected to continue searching the affected stretches of the Bichhiya and Tamas rivers.

The incident took place in the Raipur Karchuliyan police station area, where the woman, identified as Saroj Yadav, was caught in the lightning strike amid rain and thunderstorms.

According to information available, Saroj, a resident of Padra village, had gone to a nearby field to graze cows and buffaloes. The weather reportedly changed suddenly while she was in the field, followed by rainfall and intense thunder.

Before she could reach a safer location, lightning struck in the area, leaving her severely injured.

Severe Burns Reported

The lightning strike caused burns extending from Saroj's waist to her legs, according to her family.

People nearby helped her after the incident and informed her relatives. Family members reached the spot and immediately took her for medical treatment.

After receiving initial treatment, Saroj was referred to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa for further care.

Admitted to Burn Ward

Doctors at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital admitted Saroj to the burn ward, where she is undergoing treatment and remains under medical observation.

Rewa Government Departments Owe ₹27 Crore in Electricity Bills, Disconnection Warning

Government departments in Rewa owe around ₹27 crore in unpaid electricity bills, with gram panchayats accounting for nearly ₹20 crore. Notices and disconnection warnings have been issued.

Government departments in Rewa's eastern division have accumulated electricity bill arrears of around ₹27 crore, prompting the Madhya Pradesh Eastern Region Power Distribution Company to issue notices and warn of disconnection if the outstanding amount is not cleared.

The largest share of the unpaid bills is linked to gram panchayats, particularly electricity consumption for tap-water supply schemes and panchayat buildings. The power distribution company has asked the concerned departments to settle their dues within the stipulated period.

The warning comes as the utility continues its drive to recover outstanding electricity dues from consumers across the division.

Panchayats Account for ₹20 Crore

According to the available figures, electricity dues associated with gram panchayats amount to approximately ₹20 crore. These arrears largely relate to rural drinking-water supply schemes and panchayat office buildings.

Other government departments also have pending bills. The Women and Child Development Department reportedly owes around ₹2 crore, while outstanding dues from the Water Resources Department exceed ₹50 lakh.

The Health Department has arrears of around ₹50 lakh, while municipalities together have pending electricity bills of approximately ₹20 lakh.

The remaining amount comprises dues from other government offices and institutions.

Bills Pending at Several Centres

The outstanding government electricity bills are spread across several distribution centres in the Rewa division, including Govindgarh, Manikwar, Mangawan, Gudh, Badaraw and Raipur.

Officials said departments have repeatedly been informed about their outstanding payments. Despite reminders, a significant portion of the dues remains unpaid.

The electricity company has now warned that failure to clear the arrears could result in electricity connections being disconnected.

Notices Sent to Department Heads

Executive Engineer Sushil Yadav said notices have been issued to the heads of the concerned government departments.

The notices reportedly make it clear that if the outstanding bills are not paid within the prescribed period, the power utility will initiate disconnection proceedings. Responsibility for the consequences would rest with the concerned department.

Yadav said the company is conducting a continuing disconnection campaign against consumers with unpaid electricity bills under directions from senior officials.

Junior engineers and assistant engineers are also involved in the recovery and enforcement exercise.

Government Connections Also Under Action

The power distribution company has maintained that government institutions will not be exempt from action if they fail to clear their dues.

Officials said electricity connections belonging to government departments could also be disconnected if payments remain pending despite the notices.

The development has drawn attention because electricity companies generally take recovery measures, including disconnection, against ordinary consumers who accumulate substantial unpaid bills. The sizeable arrears pending from government departments have therefore raised questions about the pace of recovery from public institutions.

Utility Awaits Payment

The immediate focus is now on whether the departments concerned will clear their outstanding bills following the notices.

With government offices, panchayats and public facilities accounting for a substantial portion of the arrears, the electricity company faces the task of recovering the pending ₹27 crore while ensuring that essential public services are not disrupted unnecessarily.

The outcome of the notice period will determine whether departments settle their dues or whether the distribution company proceeds with electricity disconnections.

A traffic jam stretching nearly 2 kilometres was reported at the Chakghat border between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh on National Highway-30 after trucks were stopped from entering Prayagraj amid arrangements for the ongoing Kanwar Yatra.

The queue of vehicles began building up on Wednesday evening after restrictions on truck movement towards Prayagraj came into effect. By Thursday morning, the line had extended to around two kilometres, with the congestion continuing for more than 12 hours.

Trucks Stranded at Chakghat

According to truck drivers, restrictions were imposed on the movement of heavy vehicles towards Prayagraj as the number of Kanwariyas in the city increased. With trucks unable to proceed towards Uttar Pradesh, several vehicles accumulated at the Chakghat border.

The congestion affected traffic moving between Rewa and Prayagraj, with drivers facing delays while waiting for movement to resume.

Administration Moves to Ease Traffic

Following reports of the congestion, police and administrative teams reached the spot and began managing traffic. Vehicles were being allowed to move forward gradually in an effort to reduce the length of the queue.

However, a large number of trucks remained stranded at the border as restrictions on their entry into Prayagraj continued.

Only Trucks Stopped, Says Police

Rewa Additional Superintendent of Police Sandeep Mishra said the restrictions were limited to trucks and that other vehicles were being allowed to move.

He said the decision was linked to traffic management arrangements for the Kanwar Yatra in Prayagraj. Police and administrative teams were present at Chakghat to regulate traffic and prevent further congestion.

According to the official clarification, passenger vehicles and other permitted traffic were not subject to the same restriction, allowing regular movement to continue.

Kanwar Yatra Drives Traffic Restrictions

The annual Kanwar Yatra has led authorities in several areas along major routes to introduce temporary traffic-management measures as large numbers of devotees travel towards religious destinations.

With Prayagraj witnessing increased movement of Kanwariyas, restrictions on heavy vehicles are intended to reduce pressure on roads and maintain smoother movement for pilgrims and other road users.

For truck operators, however, the restrictions have resulted in extended waiting periods at the MP-UP border.

Traffic Situation Being Monitored

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation at Chakghat and regulate the movement of vehicles. The administration is also working to clear the accumulated traffic and prevent the queue from extending further.

While the congestion has caused inconvenience to truck drivers and commuters, officials have maintained that the restriction is specifically aimed at heavy vehicles entering Prayagraj and that other traffic remains operational.

Nearly 20 days after a man was buried in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, authorities exhumed his body following allegations by family members that his death may not have been natural. The body has now been sent for a fresh postmortem examination, and police say further action will depend on the medical report.

The case pertains to 42-year-old Mohammad Lukman, a resident of Kuthulia locality under Bichhiya police station limits. According to police, Lukman died suddenly during the intervening night of July 9 and 10.

At the time, the family believed the death was natural and did not seek a postmortem examination. His body was subsequently buried in his ancestral village Baikunthpur as per religious customs.

Family Raises Doubts After 20 Days

Nearly three weeks later, family members approached the Bichhiya police station expressing suspicion over the circumstances surrounding Lukman’s death and sought a fair investigation.

Relatives told police that they had begun to suspect that the death may not have been natural and requested that the body be exhumed for a postmortem examination.

Exhumation Conducted After SDM Approval

Bichhiya police station in-charge Ankita Mishra said all legal procedures were followed before the exhumation was carried out.

After obtaining permission from the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), a team comprising police officials and administrative authorities reached the Baikunthpur graveyard, where the grave was opened and the body was recovered.

The remains were then sent for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

No Direct Allegations Against Anyone

The deceased’s brother, Mohammad Dawood, said the family had serious doubts regarding Lukman’s death but had not accused any individual directly.

He stated that only the postmortem findings and police investigation would reveal whether any criminal act was involved.

Police Await Medical Report

Police officials said the postmortem report would play a key role in determining the next course of action.

If medical findings indicate foul play or any criminal angle, a case will be registered under relevant sections and a detailed investigation will follow.

For now, police say all aspects of the case are being examined, and no conclusions will be drawn until the forensic and medical reports are received.

The incident has drawn attention due to the rare legal process of exhumation, which is undertaken only after administrative approval in cases where doubts arise regarding the cause of death after burial.

Authorities have initiated an inquiry after a viral video allegedly showed liquor being sold openly near Lohi Bridge, raising concerns amid the ongoing ‘Drug-Free Campaign 2.0’ in the Rewa division.

A video allegedly showing the open sale of liquor near Lohi Bridge in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district has sparked controversy and prompted an official inquiry by local authorities. The incident, reported from the Bichhiya Police Station area, has drawn public attention because it surfaced during the ongoing 'Drug-Free Campaign 2.0', an awareness and enforcement initiative being conducted across the Rewa division.

According to local residents, individuals who reached the location recorded a video that purportedly showed liquor being sold in the open. In the footage, a person seen at the site allegedly claimed that the outlet functioned as a branch of a licensed liquor shop located in Bichhiya and that liquor was being sold there for the convenience of nearby villagers.

The authenticity of these claims has not yet been independently verified, and officials have stated that the matter is currently under investigation. Authorities will determine whether the sale was authorized under applicable excise regulations or whether any violations of the law have occurred.

The timing of the incident has intensified public discussion because the Rewa Range is currently conducting the 'Drug-Free Campaign 2.0' under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Gaurav Rajput. The campaign focuses on reducing substance abuse through awareness programmes, enforcement measures, and action against illegal narcotics and other prohibited activities.

The alleged liquor sale near one of the city's entry routes has raised questions among residents regarding compliance with excise regulations and the effectiveness of ongoing enforcement efforts. Several local citizens have demanded a transparent inquiry to establish the facts and determine whether unauthorized liquor sales were taking place.

One aspect of the viral video that has attracted particular attention is the conduct of the individual allegedly seen speaking on camera. According to those who recorded the footage, the person appeared to openly discuss the sale of liquor without hesitation. If the outlet is ultimately found to be operating without the necessary approvals or outside the permitted conditions of a licensed establishment, it could amount to a violation of excise rules.

However, officials have emphasized that the legal status of the outlet will only be determined after a detailed investigation and verification of relevant documents and permissions.

Following circulation of the video, local residents expressed concern about the reported activity near Lohi Bridge. Rajesh Singh, a resident of the area, stated that discussions regarding open liquor sales near the bridge had existed for some time. He claimed that the area experiences increased public movement during the evening hours, affecting the surrounding environment.

Singh said that if liquor is being sold illegally, the police and the Excise Department should take immediate action after verifying the facts. He also stressed the importance of maintaining law and order in public spaces frequently used by residents.

Another local resident, Ramkumar Patel, highlighted that the road near Lohi Bridge is used daily by villagers, women, schoolchildren, and college students. He stated that if unauthorized liquor sales are occurring in such a location, the matter should be treated seriously. Patel called upon the administration to conduct a fair and impartial investigation and to take strict legal action against anyone found violating the law.

Responding to the issue, Bichhiya Police Station House Officer Ankit Mishra confirmed that police became aware of the alleged incident through media reports. He stated that an inquiry has been initiated to verify the claims presented in the video.

According to the police official, if the investigation establishes that liquor was being sold illegally or that provisions of the Excise Act were violated, appropriate legal action will be taken against the individuals found responsible. He further stated that authorities would not tolerate any illegal activity within the jurisdiction.

Police officials have not yet confirmed whether the location shown in the video was an authorized extension of a licensed liquor shop or an entirely unauthorized outlet. This determination will depend on the findings of the ongoing inquiry and verification by the concerned departments.

The investigation is expected to include examination of licensing records, excise permissions, ownership details, and statements from relevant individuals. Authorities may also review the viral video as part of the evidence while assessing whether any offences have been committed under applicable laws.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of effective monitoring of liquor sales and enforcement of excise regulations in public areas. Residents have urged authorities to ensure that any unauthorized commercial activity is dealt with promptly to maintain public confidence and uphold the rule of law.

As the inquiry continues, officials have appealed to the public to avoid drawing conclusions before the investigation is completed. The outcome of the inquiry will determine whether the allegations are substantiated and whether further legal or administrative action is warranted.

A high-level inquiry has been launched after textbooks worth nearly ₹3.6 million meant for government school students were found missing from the Madhya Pradesh Textbook Corporation warehouse in Rewa.

A major irregularity involving the disappearance of hundreds of bundles of government-issued textbooks has come to light in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district, triggering an official investigation and the registration of a criminal case. Authorities have reported that nearly 450 bundles of textbooks, intended for free distribution among students studying in government schools, were found missing from the warehouse of the Madhya Pradesh Textbook Corporation.

According to preliminary estimates, the missing books are valued at approximately ₹3.5 to ₹3.6 million (₹35–36 lakh). The discovery has raised serious concerns about the handling and distribution of educational materials supplied under the state's free textbook programme.

The matter came to light during a verification of stock at the warehouse after concerns were raised regarding irregularities in the distribution of textbooks to government schools. Officials found a significant mismatch between the physical stock and official records, prompting immediate action by the district administration.

Following the discovery, an First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Chorhata Police Station, and a detailed investigation was initiated. The case has attracted attention at both the district and state levels, leading to the deployment of a special team from Bhopal to examine the matter.

Officials stated that the investigation will focus on warehouse stock records, distribution registers, transport records, and other official documents to determine how such a large quantity of textbooks disappeared. Authorities are also expected to identify whether procedural lapses, negligence, or deliberate misconduct contributed to the incident.

The issue surfaced only a few days after reports emerged regarding irregularities in the distribution of textbooks meant for government schools. Taking note of these complaints, Rewa District Collector Narendra Suryavanshi reportedly directed officials to ensure immediate distribution of books and verify warehouse inventory. During the subsequent inspection, the shortage of hundreds of textbook bundles was detected.

Sources associated with the investigation indicated that several schools reportedly did not receive the textbooks allocated to them despite official records suggesting otherwise. At the same time, complaints were received alleging that government-issued textbooks had appeared in the open market, raising suspicions that books intended for free distribution may have been diverted through unauthorized channels.

Investigators are also examining another significant aspect of the case. During the stock verification, officials reportedly found certain textbooks stored in the warehouse that had already been marked as distributed or exhausted in official records. This discrepancy has prompted questions regarding the accuracy of inventory management and documentation maintained at the warehouse.

One line of inquiry is examining whether textbooks based on revised academic syllabi were returned to the warehouse after being officially shown as distributed, potentially to reconcile records through paperwork. However, authorities have clarified that these possibilities remain under investigation and no final conclusions have been reached.

Given the seriousness of the case, senior officials from Bhopal have reached Rewa to conduct a comprehensive inquiry. The investigation team is reviewing stock registers, distribution records, dispatch details, inventory logs, and other administrative documents to determine the sequence of events that led to the reported shortage.

Officials believe the ongoing inquiry may uncover additional irregularities related to textbook storage, transportation, and distribution. If evidence of financial irregularities or criminal misconduct emerges, further legal action may be initiated against those found responsible.

Police have confirmed that a criminal case has been registered based on the complaint received from the concerned authorities. According to Chorhata Police Station In-charge Pawan Shukla, approximately 450 bundles of textbooks valued at around ₹35–36 lakh were found missing from the warehouse. He stated that an FIR has been registered and a detailed investigation is currently underway.

Law enforcement authorities have emphasized that legal proceedings will continue based on the findings of the investigation. Officials have also indicated that all relevant documents and evidence will be examined before determining accountability.

The disappearance of textbooks has raised concerns because the books were intended for students studying in government schools under the state's free education programme. Any disruption in the timely supply of textbooks can directly affect classroom learning and academic progress, particularly for students who rely entirely on government-provided educational materials.

The case has also highlighted the importance of transparent inventory management and monitoring mechanisms within public distribution systems. Educational experts have stressed that regular audits, digital inventory tracking, and stronger accountability measures are essential to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As the investigation progresses, authorities are expected to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the textbooks and identify those responsible. The findings of the inquiry will play a crucial role in deciding future administrative and legal action while ensuring that educational resources reach the students for whom they were intended.

During the preliminary inquiry, investigators found the name of a minor girl and the words "Miss You" written on the deceased's hand, a detail that has now become part of the ongoing investigation.

The deceased, identified as Abhishek Patel, a resident of Amiliya police station area in Sidhi district, had been sent to the Rewa Juvenile Observation Home about a week ago under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, following an order of the Juvenile Justice Board.

Body Found Hanging Inside Observation Home

According to police, Home Guard personnel Amit Kumar Tiwari, who was on duty at the facility, discovered the minor hanging inside his room late Monday night. Staff members immediately brought him down and informed the police.

Officers reached the observation home shortly afterwards, sent the body for post-mortem examination and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Authorities are examining the sequence of events inside the facility, including the supervision arrangements and the juvenile's activities before his death.

Name Written on Hand Becomes Part of Investigation

During the investigation, police found the name of a minor girl along with the words "Miss You" written on the deceased's hand. Officials have confirmed the finding but have not disclosed the girl's identity because she is a minor.

Investigators said the writing has been documented as evidence and will be examined along with other material collected during the probe.

Family Claims Relationship, Alleges Mental Stress

The deceased's father, Chandrashekhar Patel, claimed that his son and the girl were in a relationship and alleged that the POCSO case was registered after the girl's family approached the police.

He further alleged that his son had been under severe emotional stress since the criminal case was registered and his subsequent placement in the juvenile home.

Police have recorded the family's statements and said all claims will be verified during the investigation.

Minor Had Reportedly Skipped Dinner

According to the preliminary inquiry, the juvenile had refused to eat dinner on Monday night despite being persuaded by staff members.

Officials said that sometime later, he was found hanging inside his room.

Police are now attempting to establish his mental state prior to the incident by examining statements from staff members, fellow inmates and family members.

Investigation Continues

Authorities have informed the family about the incident, while the post-mortem examination has been completed.

Police said the investigation will consider all aspects of the case, including the circumstances inside the observation home, the deceased's psychological condition, and whether established protocols were followed by the institution.

Officials stated that further action will be taken after the post-mortem report and other forensic evidence are examined.

As the case involves minors and an alleged offence under the POCSO Act, the identities of the victim and other protected individuals have not been disclosed in accordance with legal provisions.

Police suspect that the victims were hit by an unidentified speeding vehicle, though the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.

The accident occurred near a petrol pump at Chaudiyar Mod on the Rewa-Sidhi route. According to police, both riders died on the spot due to the severity of the impact before emergency assistance could arrive.

The deceased have been identified as Mansukh Chaturvedi and Ganesh Patel, both residents of Silpara village. Preliminary information suggests that the two were travelling on a motorcycle for personal work when the accident took place.

Hit-and-Run Suspected

Initial findings indicate that a speeding unidentified vehicle may have struck the motorcycle, throwing both riders onto the road. However, police officials have not yet confirmed the hit-and-run angle and said the exact sequence of events will be established after a detailed investigation.

Investigators are examining all possible causes, including vehicle collision, road conditions and eyewitness accounts.

Police Begin Investigation

Soon after receiving information about the accident, police reached the spot and carried out the necessary legal formalities. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination before being handed over to the families.

Police have also begun scanning CCTV footage from cameras installed at locations near the accident site to identify the vehicle suspected to be involved in the crash. Other forensic evidence from the scene is also being examined.

Search for Unidentified Vehicle

Officials said efforts are underway to trace the unidentified vehicle if the hit-and-run theory is confirmed. The investigation remains ongoing, and police have appealed for information from anyone who may have witnessed the accident or noticed a damaged vehicle passing through the area during the night.

The tragic incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety and speeding on the busy Rewa-Sidhi Highway, where several serious accidents have been reported in recent years.

Authorities said further details will emerge after completion of the investigation and analysis of the available evidence.

In a significant breakthrough under Operation Prahar 2.0, the Amahiya police have arrested a man for illegally selling codeine-based cough syrup, commonly known as Corex. The accused was concealing the contraband in a water jar to avoid suspicion.

According to police, a tip-off was received on July 1 that a young man was sitting in suspicious condition near the culvert at Khamaria House in Narendra Nagar. The informant described him as wearing blue jeans and a sky-blue T-shirt, carrying a water jar containing illicit cough syrup and waiting for customers.

Acting on the information, the Amahiya police team reached the spot. The accused tried to flee upon seeing the police but was caught after a cordon was set up. He was identified as Mayank Mishra alias Aman Gautam (24), a resident of Sundar Nagar, Bodabag.

During the search, police recovered the illicit cough syrup hidden inside the water jar. The syrup was seized and the accused was arrested. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections.

Amahiya police station in-charge Shiva Agrawal said the district police have been continuously running campaigns against drug abuse. The operation was carried out based on intelligence inputs.

"Action will continue against those involved in the sale and trafficking of illicit narcotic substances. We are committed to making Rewa drug-free," Agrawal said.

Operation Prahar 2.0, launched by Rewa police earlier this year, targets drug peddlers and the illegal narcotics trade. Multiple arrests have been made under the campaign, with police focusing on both street-level dealers and supply chain networks.

Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the cough syrup and identify other links in the network.

Two young men were killed and another critically injured after a speeding truck rammed into their bike late Saturday night in Rewa district's Chorhata police station area. All three victims belong to the same family.

The accident occurred in front of the Chorhata airstrip in Agdal. The truck hit the bike with such force that two of the riders died on the spot. The third was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Family member Sanjay Kol identified the deceased as Chhotu Kol and Dilip Kol. The injured person was named as Pankaj Kol. All three were travelling together on the bike late at night when the accident happened.

Injured Undergoing Treatment

Locals informed the police immediately after the accident. Police arrived at the scene and rushed the injured Pankaj to a hospital, where he continues to receive treatment.

Chorhata police station in-charge Pawan Shukla said a police team reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. The bodies of the two deceased were taken into custody and sent to the mortuary for post-mortem.

"The accident occurred late Saturday night. Our team is investigating the matter. A case has been registered," Shukla said.

Rising Concern Over Road Safety

The accident is the latest in a series of fatal road incidents in Rewa district. Speeding trucks on highways and poorly lit roads have been identified as major contributing factors to such tragedies.

This incident also highlights the vulnerability of two-wheeler riders, especially at night. The loss of two young lives from the same family has left the community in shock.

Police officials have urged riders to exercise caution while travelling at night and to ensure proper lighting and reflective gear on their vehicles. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.

A 30-year-old woman was killed after being struck by lightning in Rewa district's Govindgarh area on Friday night. The victim, identified as Sunita Patel, was working in her field sowing paddy when the bolt struck.

According to villagers, the weather suddenly turned hostile with thunder and rain. Before she could take cover, lightning struck directly, killing her on the spot.

Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing the thunderclap but found her already dead. The Govindgarh police reached the site after receiving information and sent the body for post-mortem examination.

Family in Grief, Village in Mourning

Patel's family members are in a state of shock and grief. The entire village has come together to offer condolences. Residents have demanded that the administration provide immediate financial assistance to the bereaved family.

Rising Concern Over Lightning Strikes

This incident comes amid a spate of lightning-related deaths across Madhya Pradesh. With monsoon activity picking up across the state, officials have repeatedly warned farmers and rural residents to take precautions during thunderstorms.

Meteorological department data suggests lightning strikes have claimed dozens of lives in the region over the past few years, with farmers working in open fields particularly vulnerable.

District authorities have urged residents to avoid working in open fields during thunderstorms and to seek shelter in safe structures when lightning is sighted.

Further details on the compensation provided to the family are awaited.
