A Reva‑based school principal’s house in Anand Nagar, Boda Bag has become the target of a nocturnal burglary, with masked intruders reportedly making away with gold and silver jewellery and cash estimated in lakhs. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, after the family had left for Mumbai for the son’s medical treatment, leaving the residence unoccupied and vulnerable to theft.

What happened

Police sources in Reva say thieves broke open the main gate lock late at night and entered the house in the University area’s Anand Nagar, Boda Bag locality. The family, including Neelcent Indian School principal Amit Singh Baghel, was in Mumbai for their son’s ongoing treatment, which allowed the intruders to carry out the break‑in without immediate detection.

Residents living around the house noticed the broken lock only in the morning and alerted the owner by phone, prompting a call to Dial 112. The local police promptly reached the spot and began a forensic and CCTV‑based inquiry into the theft.

CCTV footage & suspects

CCTV cameras installed in and around the housing complex have reportedly captured the movement of two suspects wearing masks and cycling near the house late at night. One of the clips shows the pair reconnoitring the area before the main gate lock is seen being tampered with and broken.

According to Reva police, the suspects enter the house around 2:09 a.m. and exit after a short period, by which time the valuables had been shifted. The footage is now being scrutinised by the University Police Station team to identify the duo and trace their possible vehicles or accomplices.

Scale of loss

Initial assessment by the family and police indicates that a substantial quantity of gold and silver ornaments, along with an undisclosed amount of cash, were stolen from several rooms of the house. Although an exact figure has not yet been officially disclosed, local sources and police officers privy to the case are describing the loss as “running into several lakhs.”

The incident has added to growing anxiety among residents of Anand Nagar and adjoining localities, where several households keep accumulated family jewellery and savings at home. The recurring pattern of high‑value burglaries in Reva has also drawn attention from higher police officials.

Police response

The University Police Station has registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to house‑breaking and theft. A senior officer told this portal that teams are visiting nearby colonies and checking other CCTV feeds to trace the suspects’ route and any similar recent incidents.

Forensic personnel have also visited the premises to collect fingerprints and other physical evidence from the main door and windows. Police have asked local residents and neighbours to inform them immediately if they notice any suspicious persons selling jewellery or offering cash‑for‑gold services in the vicinity.

Safety concerns in Reva

Residents of Anand Nagar and Boda Bag have voiced concern over the rising number of break‑in cases in the University area, especially in residential pockets where families are often away for work, education or medical reasons. Many say they now prefer to keep valuables with relatives or in bank lockers, even if it means additional travel or documentation.

Community leaders have called for increased night patrolling, more streetlights, and better‑coordinated watch‑group arrangements among neighbours. Some residents have also requested the district police to periodically brief localities on basic home‑security measures and how to respond to suspicious activity. What authorities are saying

Speaking off the record, a senior district police officer acknowledged that Reva has seen a surge in residential thefts over the past year, many of which occur when families are away on medical or job‑related trips. The officer said the department is now prioritising the analysis of CCTV footage and strengthening coordination between local police and cyber units.

The officer also urged citizens to avoid sharing travel plans or property details on social media and to install basic security devices such as grid locks, motion‑sensor lights and peep‑hole cameras. “A small investment in security can prevent a loss of lakhs,” the officer added.

What comes next

Forestalled by the evidence‑rich CCTV clips, investigators expect to circulate the suspects’ images soon and launch a targeted search in Reva and nearby towns. If the stolen jewellery surfaces in the market, officials believe that gold‑shop‑wise tracking may quickly lead back to the accused.
