The Election Commission of India suspended five police officers in West Bengal's Diamond Harbour district on Saturday for serious misconduct and failing to uphold poll neutrality. Disciplinary proceedings started immediately against the officials. Sources indicated the action stemmed from a Chief Electoral Officer report dated April 22.

Authorities named the following in the order: Sandip Garai, Additional SP, Diamond Harbour; Sajal Mondal, SDPO, Diamond Harbour; Mausam Chakraborty, Inspector-in-Charge, Diamond Harbour Police Station; Ajay Bag, Inspector-in-Charge, Falta Police Station; and Subhechha Bag, Officer-in-Charge, Usthi Police Station.

The EC directed swift compliance and warned the local SP for oversight failures.
