Two young men were killed and another critically injured after a speeding truck rammed into their bike late Saturday night in Rewa district's Chorhata police station area. All three victims belong to the same family.

The accident occurred in front of the Chorhata airstrip in Agdal. The truck hit the bike with such force that two of the riders died on the spot. The third was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Family member Sanjay Kol identified the deceased as Chhotu Kol and Dilip Kol. The injured person was named as Pankaj Kol. All three were travelling together on the bike late at night when the accident happened.

Injured Undergoing Treatment

Locals informed the police immediately after the accident. Police arrived at the scene and rushed the injured Pankaj to a hospital, where he continues to receive treatment.

Chorhata police station in-charge Pawan Shukla said a police team reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. The bodies of the two deceased were taken into custody and sent to the mortuary for post-mortem.

"The accident occurred late Saturday night. Our team is investigating the matter. A case has been registered," Shukla said.

Rising Concern Over Road Safety

The accident is the latest in a series of fatal road incidents in Rewa district. Speeding trucks on highways and poorly lit roads have been identified as major contributing factors to such tragedies.

Local police received information late Wednesday night and rushed to the spot. The rescue operation was not easy. The damaged cabin had to be cut open using equipment. After nearly an hour of effort, the body was pulled out.

Police and local residents told this news desk that the pick‑up was travelling from Khunjner’s Mawasa village in Rajgarh towards Barkhera Maamera when the collision happened just before reaching the Pachor town limits, close to the Pachor Civil Polytechnic College. The truck struck the side or rear of the pick‑up with such force that the vehicle overturned, leaving passengers scattered along the carriageway.

All the injured were first rushed to the Pachor civil hospital, where doctors began triage and first‑aid treatment. At the Shajapur hospital, two women could not be revived despite intensive treatment. The deceased were identified as Bhagwati Bai, wife of Chandr Singh, and Awanti Bai, wife of Gopal, both residents of Mawasa village in Rajgarh district. Their bodies were taken to the hospital mortuary for post‑mortem and are scheduled to be handed over to the families on Tuesday after the autopsy.

The arrival of more than 20 injured persons in quick succession created near‑chaos at the Pachor civil hospital, with attendants and relatives scrambling to reach the emergency wing. Sixteen of the 21 injured, including those with critical fractures and internal injuries, were moved to Shajapur district hospital, while the remaining were kept under observation at Pachor. The pick‑up driver, Devi Singh Yadav, was found with fractures in his chest and right leg and has been referred to Bhopal for further orthopaedic care.

Road‑safety concerns in the region
