Bilaspur road accidents claim 4 lives, 29 injured as doctor’s car, wedding vehicles crash in tragic series.

Separate road mishaps rocked Bilaspur district in Chhattisgarh, leaving four people dead and 29 others injured over a short span. Initial reports point to drowsiness, overcrowding and speeding as key factors behind the chaos. Police have launched probes while hospitals scramble to treat the wounded.

Doctor’s Drowsy Collision

A doctor from Mahasamund lost control of his car near Lalkhadan overbridge after dozing off, slamming into an oncoming auto-rickshaw. The impact killed Beera Bai Dahariya (50), a labourer returning from Gujarat, on the spot. Auto driver and three other passengers suffered serious injuries, with the driver's legs fractured.

T Kendra Prasad Patel (29), a SIMS surgery resident heading back from home leave, tested negative for alcohol, said Torwa TI Rajnish Singh. Locals confronted him at the scene before police intervened, seizing the vehicle (CG 04 PA 3294) and filing an FIR.

Wedding Scorpio Overturns

In another blow, a Scorpio packed with wedding guests from Kota to Mungeli flipped near Nagchui village after the driver braked suddenly for a cyclist. Sushila Manikpuri from Ghoramar died, with 13 injured including Meleudas from Lamkena and Akhilesh from Sirgitti. Overloading emerged in early checks, police noted.

Bystanders pulled victims out and rushed them to Kotha health centre. Families gathered weeping outside as post-mortem got underway.

Pickup Flips on Sharp Turn

Baratis returning from a Seepat wedding in a overloaded pickup (CG 12 AX 9589) met disaster at Karma Busaha bend. Driver lost grip, vehicle rolled, killing Ram Jhul Singh (40) from Umaria Dadar instantly. Twelve others hurt, all admitted nearby.

The group, over 25 strong from Ratanpur’s Umaria Dadar, had attended late-night festivities. Takhatpur police are investigating.

Bike Rider Crushed by Car

Gautam Yadav (24) from Seepat Nyapara fell victim to a rash driver while biking his sister home post-wedding. A white car (CG 12 BP 5061) struck him near Raliya around 2 pm, mangling bike and vehicle fronts. He succumbed at Masturi CHC.

Brother Rajesh got the call from a stranger. Masturi police hunt the absconding driver.

Police Response, Hospital Strain

Cases span Torwa, Takhatpur, Seepat and Masturi stations. FIRs filed, vehicles impounded where possible. Breath tests cleared some drivers but probes continue into negligence.

Over 29 injured strain local facilities, some critical. Officials urge caution on busy routes.

Road Safety Echoes

These crashes highlight persistent risks on Bilaspur roads—fatigue after long drives, wedding-season overloading, sharp bends. Similar incidents plague Chhattisgarh highways lately. Authorities may step up checks ahead.

A bus traveling from Ahmedabad to Bhopal swerved to avoid a stray cow near Ashta, leading to a fatal collision with a roadside tree.

A tragic road accident claimed the life of a bus helper on Tuesday morning after a passenger bus veered off the road and rammed into a tree on the Bhopal-Indore Highway. The incident occurred around 8:00 AM near the Kachnariya Junction, falling under the jurisdiction of the Parvati Police Station.

The bus, operated by Verma Travels, was en route from Ahmedabad to Bhopal with approximately 30 passengers on board. While the passengers escaped with their lives, the impact of the collision was so severe that the front cabin of the vehicle was completely crushed, trapping the helper inside.

Fatal collision near Kachnariya

According to Dharmendra Singh Malviya from the Parvati Police Station, the bus was about 10 kilometers away from Ashta when the driver lost control. Local residents and passersby rushed to the spot as the sound of the crash echoed through the area. Initial reports suggest the vehicle was traveling at a steady speed before it suddenly darted toward the shoulder of the highway, hitting a large tree head-on.

Rescue team uses cutters

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Sunil Mukati, a resident of Polai Kala in Shajapur district. Rescuers faced a grim task upon arrival. Krishnapal Verma, an ambulance driver with the 108 service, stated that the victim’s body was pinned so tightly within the mangled remains of the cabin that gas cutters had to be used to retrieve him. Sunil died on the spot due to the intensity of the impact.

Driver recounts narrow escape

The bus driver, Ramchandra Patel, also a resident of Polai Kala, survived the crash and spoke of the harrowing moments leading up to the accident. "A cow suddenly appeared on the road. Everything happened in a split second. I slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting the animal, but the tire burst, and the steering just locked up," Patel said. He described the moment of impact as "staring at death," adding that he considers his survival a second lease on life.

Passengers safe after scare

While the helper lost his life, authorities confirmed that all 30 passengers on board remained safe, though many were left shaken by the sudden jolt. ASI Ajay Kant Dixit of the Ashta Police confirmed that the primary cause appears to be the sudden appearance of cattle on the highway combined with the subsequent tire failure. The body of the deceased was shifted to the Ashta Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Rising concerns over highway safety

The Bhopal-Indore stretch is one of the busiest in the state, and the presence of stray cattle has been a recurring concern for long-distance drivers. Police have registered a case and are investigating the technical state of the vehicle at the time of the crash. Traffic was briefly disrupted on the lane as a crane was called in to move the damaged bus from the roadside.

Narmadapuram road accident kills five; probe finds vehicle without valid registration, fitness or permit on road for months

A deadly road accident on the Narmadapuram–Pipariya state highway has brought serious lapses in vehicle enforcement into focus, after investigators found that the Tavera involved had been operating without valid registration, fitness or permit for nearly six months.

The crash, which took place late Sunday night near Aanchalkheda, left five people dead and seven others injured. Two of the injured remain in critical condition, according to local authorities.

Late-night collision

The incident occurred around midnight when a speeding Tavera collided head-on with a tractor-trolley loaded with soyabean. The impact was severe—locals said the vehicle was mangled beyond recognition, with debris scattered across the road.

Police and villagers rushed to the spot, pulling out the injured and shifting them to the district hospital. Four occupants were declared dead on arrival, while the driver had died at the scene.

Victims from same village

All the deceased were residents of Mahendrawadi village in Makhan Nagar and were returning from a wedding in Budhni. Among those who lost their lives were members of the same extended family, turning what had been a celebratory gathering into a tragedy.

Three of the victims were cremated on Monday at the Narmada riverbank, while the last rites of another victim were scheduled after his father, posted with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, reached the village.

Eyewitness recalls chaos

An eyewitness who was part of the wedding party described the aftermath as chaotic and distressing. He said the Tavera had left ahead of them, carrying around a dozen passengers.

“When we reached near Aanchalkheda, there was panic everywhere. People were lying injured, and some were not moving at all. It was only when we got closer that we realised they were from our own village,” he said.

According to him, the injured were transported in ambulances as well as private vehicles due to the urgency of the situation.

Registration expired months ago

Preliminary findings have revealed that the Tavera’s registration, fitness certificate and permit had all expired on October 27, 2025. Despite this, the vehicle continued to ply on the route, allegedly being used as a taxi.

Officials from the Regional Transport Office confirmed that the vehicle had completed 15 years and required renewal, which was never done. “The owner did not apply for renewal. That is a clear violation,” an अधिकारी said.

Insurance raises questions

In a surprising detail, records show that the vehicle’s insurance was renewed in February 2026 and remains valid until early 2027—despite the absence of a valid registration.

This has raised questions about how the policy was issued and whether checks were bypassed. Sources familiar with the matter indicated that such discrepancies are not uncommon but often go unnoticed until incidents like this.

Lapses in enforcement

The case has also cast a spotlight on enforcement gaps. The route between Pipariya and Narmadapuram sees regular traffic checks by both police and transport officials. Yet, the unfit vehicle reportedly operated without interruption for months.

Officials have not commented directly on the enforcement failure but said internal reviews may be undertaken.

Earlier hit-and-run clue

Investigators suspect that the same vehicle may have been involved in another collision shortly before the fatal crash. Initial reports suggest the Tavera hit an unidentified vehicle on the outskirts of Narmadapuram, injuring a person, before continuing on its route.

Police said they are verifying this sequence as part of the broader investigation.

Probe and next steps

The tractor driver fled the scene after the collision, and efforts are underway to trace him. Meanwhile, authorities have identified the vehicle owner and indicated that legal action will follow.

According to local police, a case is being registered against those responsible, including the owner for allowing an unfit vehicle to operate.

The Narmadapuram road accident has once again highlighted the risks posed by unchecked vehicles on highways, especially in semi-urban belts where monitoring remains inconsistent.
