In a firm move to improve administrative discipline, the Collector of Rewa has directed strict measures against officers who frequently remain absent from headquarters without permission. Officials in the District Panchayat setup, including Project Officers and Assistant Project Officers, will now require prior approval before leaving their stations.

The directive came after several officers failed to attend an important review meeting held on April 27, 2026. Their absence reportedly affected a proper assessment of ongoing government schemes, prompting the Collector to issue immediate instructions to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Zila Panchayat.

Absenteeism Hits Scheme Review

According to officials familiar with the development, project officers handling key programmes such as MGNREGA and other departmental schemes have often been found outside the headquarters without intimation. This practice has been impacting timely monitoring and implementation of welfare initiatives at the ground level.

The communication emphasises that no officer posted in the district panchayat — be it Project Officers, APOs, or those linked to rural development departments — should leave the headquarters without obtaining prior permission.

“Any deviation will invite appropriate action as per rules,” the order reportedly warns. Authorities have made it clear that future lapses will not be tolerated and could lead to statutory proceedings against the defaulting officers.

Rewa district, like many others in Madhya Pradesh, runs multiple flagship schemes aimed at rural employment, infrastructure, and basic services.
