According to police, the attacks began on December 20 near Janakpur village, when a bus operated by Jai Bharat Travels, travelling from Gwalior to Delhi, was intercepted. The accused allegedly forced passengers to disembark and board non-permit buses. When the driver and staff resisted, they were assaulted, and shots were reportedly fired to intimidate them.

The violence escalated the same day. A second bus was stopped in Devpuri, vandalised and its staff beaten, while passengers attempting to record the incident had their mobile phones damaged. Later in the afternoon, the same bus was intercepted again near the Gangapur Hanuman Temple, where the driver’s hand was fractured and threats were issued that buses would not be allowed to operate on the Dholpur–Agra route. Fearing further attacks, operators temporarily halted services.

On January 3, another bus travelling from Porsa to Khatu Shyam was stopped on National Highway-44 near Gangapur Temple late at night. The driver was allegedly beaten with sticks, sustaining fractures in both legs, and was admitted to the district hospital in serious condition.

Drivers and operators said the attackers repeatedly targeted them with iron rods and sticks, ignoring pleas from passengers, including women. Vijay Parmar, one of the injured drivers, alleged that the main accused broke his leg and looted ₹14,000, while threatening that buses would not be allowed to run on certain routes.

Following complaints from bus operators, Morena police arrested six accused — Bhanu Gurjar, Shyamveer Gurjar, Manto Gurjar, Dharmendra Gurjar, Lavkush Gurjar and Yogendra Gurjar. Police said the main accused, Shyamveer Gurjar, is also wanted in a separate case involving firing on a police constable in Gwalior and carries a reward of ₹10,000. Three other suspects remain absconding, and search operations are underway.

Civil Line police raided Janakpur village on Wednesday evening as part of the investigation. Superintendent of Police Sameer Saurabh said coordination meetings with the transport department, revenue officials and bus operators are being held to ensure safe resumption of services.

Transport Officer Archana Parihar confirmed that the targeted buses had valid state permits. She said the dispute arose from tourist buses from other states illegally carrying local passengers. Strict action, she added, would be taken against unauthorised operations.

Authorities said restoring passenger safety and normal bus services remains the immediate priority.
