Over 14,000 candidates to appear for exam on Sunday; biometric failsafe and medical contingencies in place.

Over 14,000 candidates will appear for the NEET UG 2026 examination across 33 centres in the state capital on Sunday, with district authorities rolling out a multi-layered security and health apparatus for the afternoon test.

The offline pen-paper exam is scheduled from 2 PM to 5 PM. Entry into examination halls will begin at 11 AM, with gates closing sharply at 1:30 PM. Officials have advised candidates to avoid last-minute rushes and conduct a centre recce a day prior to avoid confusion.

Relaxation on biometric verification

In a significant move, authorities have confirmed that candidates will not be barred from entry if biometric verification fails due to technical glitches. Issues such as machine malfunction, network failure, UIDAI connectivity problems, or physical disabilities will not prevent a student from taking the test.

"Affected candidates will have to submit a written undertaking, the format for which will be available at the centre," an official overseeing arrangements said. According to new NTA guidelines, candidates will not be disturbed for biometric processes during the core exam hours of 2 PM to 5 PM. This relaxation extends until 6 PM for PwD candidates.

Strict dress code enforced

The administration has imposed a strict dress code to streamline frisking. Only candidates wearing light, half-sleeve clothing will be allowed entry. While shoes are completely banned, sandals or slippers are permitted. The measure is designed to prevent any unfair means and speed up security checks.

Parents stopped 100 metres away

To manage crowds and maintain discipline, parents and guardians will be stopped 100 metres before each exam centre. Baggage counters have also been set up at this distance, ensuring the premises remain clutter-free. Officials noted that candidates arriving with excess luggage or restricted items may face inconvenience.

Medical teams on standby

With temperatures rising, the health department has positioned 66 medical teams across the city. Each of the 33 centres will have one doctor and one paramedic stationed on-site, with essential medicines and ORS solutions arranged for heat-related issues.

"108 ambulance services are on quick-response mode. Two intern doctors have been assigned to each centre, with mobile numbers issued for emergency coordination," the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) stated. Zonal-level medical teams have also been formed to maintain communication between centres.

The administration has emphasised transparency and security as primary focus areas, particularly given past examination disputes. Coordination between security agencies and the district administration remains on high alert through the duration of the test.
