According to a BCCI source, the IPL 2026 playoffs are set to be shared between last season’s finalists — Karnataka and Punjab. However, the MLA ticket issue has become an operational headache.

“IPL 2026 playoffs and final venue will be announced soon. Matches likely to be divided between Punjab and Karnataka. The last time’s winner should host the final, but the MLA ticket issue is creating problems in Bengaluru. If there is no solution, BCCI will move the final to another city,” the source told ANI.

That admission has shifted conversations behind closed doors. Officials are now quietly assessing alternative venues.

Not the First Time a Final Has Moved

If Bengaluru loses the final, it will not be unprecedented. In IPL 2025, the summit clash was supposed to be held in Kolkata — home of then-defending champions KKR. Instead, the BCCI moved it to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, citing the early onset of the southwest monsoon in West Bengal.

That decision had drawn sharp criticism from West Bengal Sports Minister Aroop Biswas, who alleged political reasons behind the shift. The current situation in Bengaluru, while different in nature, carries similar echoes of last-minute disruption.

Ground Reality and Public Reaction

Inside Chinnaswamy Stadium, preparations for a potential final have been put on hold. Local cricket fans expressed disappointment, with many arguing that a political dispute should not cost the city a marquee event. “We waited years for RCB to win the title. Now this?” said a regular match attendee outside the stadium on Thursday morning.

Shivakumar’s office has not issued further comment since clarifying the three-ticket norm. But pressure is mounting on the state administration to resolve the impasse quickly. The BCCI, known for its preference for smooth operational clarity, is unlikely to wait indefinitely.

Playoff Race Still Wide Open

On the field, the uncertainty over the final’s location has not dimmed the contest. As of match 47, no team has been mathematically eliminated. Punjab Kings lead the table with 13 points, followed by defending champions RCB, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals — all on 12 points.
