The Nashik TCS conversion case intensified after police detained accused Nida Khan, who faces allegations of sexual harassment and hurting religious sentiments.

SIT Detains Nida Khan

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged sexual harassment and forced religious conversion case linked to the Nashik office of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has detained key accused Nida Khan from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar late Thursday night.

Police officials confirmed that Khan had been absconding after a Nashik court rejected her anticipatory bail plea on May 2. Investigators had argued before the court that custodial interrogation was necessary due to the seriousness of the allegations and the wider network being examined in the case.

Public prosecutor Ajay Misar had informed the court that Khan was among the principal accused named in multiple complaints filed by women employees.

Multiple FIRs Registered

So far, nine FIRs have been registered in connection with the case, mostly by women employees working at the TCS office in Nashik. The complaints include allegations of sexual harassment, coercion, religious intimidation and attempts at conversion.

According to police sources, the first FIR was lodged on March 26 at Deolali Camp police station. Over the following weeks, more women came forward with similar allegations.

The SIT has already arrested eight accused, including an operations manager associated with the company’s HR processes. Investigators say statements recorded from the complainants point towards a recurring pattern of harassment targeting young women employees between the ages of 18 and 25.

Bail Plea Rejected

During the anticipatory bail hearing, Nida Khan cited pregnancy and sought relief from arrest. However, the court did not accept the argument, noting the gravity of the accusations and the ongoing investigation.

Officials involved in the probe said Khan allegedly advised some female employees to wear burqa and was part of conversations related to religious influence inside the workplace.

The SIT is now examining digital evidence, including chats and internal communications, as part of the investigation.

Allegations By Employees

Three of the FIRs accessed by investigators contain detailed allegations against several accused employees and managers.

One complainant alleged that senior staff members repeatedly asked intrusive questions about her marriage and honeymoon, while others allegedly made sexually explicit remarks during training sessions.

Another employee stated in her complaint that religious discussions were frequently initiated inside the office, with derogatory remarks allegedly made against Hindu beliefs and deities. She also accused one of the senior employees of making obscene gestures during workplace interactions.

A third complainant alleged inappropriate touching by a colleague and claimed offensive remarks were made about Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva during conversations in the office.

Police officials said several complainants also alleged that their grievances were ignored despite reporting the matter internally.

HR Role Under Scanner

Investigators are also probing the role of HR personnel in the matter. Arrested operations manager Ashwini Chenani is accused of failing to act on complaints and allegedly maintaining contact with some of the accused through objectionable chats.

Sources familiar with the probe said the accused allegedly identified vulnerable employees, particularly those dealing with financial stress or family problems.

The complaints further allege that some women were pressured to alter their lifestyle choices, consume non-vegetarian food, offer namaz and, in certain cases, face emotional pressure linked to religious conversion.

WhatsApp Group Investigated

The SIT has also recovered details of a WhatsApp group allegedly operated by some of the accused. According to investigators, conversations in the group reportedly involved discussions about “targets”, workplace interactions and religious issues.

Police are conducting forensic analysis of mobile phones and chat records to establish the extent of coordination between the accused.

Officials said more than 12 potential victims have so far been identified, and further questioning is likely in the coming days.

TCS Response Awaited

Tata Consultancy Services had earlier stated that it follows a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and coercive behaviour at the workplace. The company had said it was cooperating with authorities in the investigation.

The Nashik TCS case has triggered wider discussion around workplace safety, internal complaint mechanisms and the handling of sensitive allegations within large corporate environments. Police officials indicated that further arrests cannot be ruled out as the investigation progresses.
