A major tragedy was averted on the Rewa-Govindgarh road after a passenger bus and a truck collided and rammed into a private school’s boundary wall.

Panic gripped the Gangapur area near Govindgarh on Sunday morning when a speeding truck and a private passenger bus veered off the road, crashing through the boundary wall of a local school. The collision was so impactful that it uprooted an 11kV electricity pole, bringing down high-tension wires onto the spot. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, though several passengers sustained minor injuries.

Sudden maneuver leads to chaos

The incident involved a passenger bus operated by Ram Rath Travels, which was en route to Rewa from Shahdol. According to eyewitnesses and local police, the bus was following a truck when the truck driver suddenly executed a sharp turn without any prior signal.

The bus driver, caught off guard by the abrupt maneuver, attempted to swerve to avoid a direct rear-end collision. However, the momentum of both heavy vehicles forced them off the tarmac, leading them to plow straight into the perimeter wall of a nearby private school.

Narrow escape from electrocution

The most harrowing aspect of the Rewa road accident was the destruction of the 11kV power pole. As the vehicles smashed into the school structure, the concrete pole snapped, sending live wires dangling dangerously close to the bus.

"It was a miracle the power tripped or the wires didn't make direct contact with the metallic body of the bus," said a local resident who rushed to the spot. "The school was closed as it was a Sunday; otherwise, the situation regarding the children could have been devastating."

Local rescue and police action

Immediately after the crash, locals gathered at the site to assist the shaken passengers. The doors of the bus were jammed due to the impact against the wall, forcing some passengers to exit through the windows.

A team from the Govindgarh police station reached the spot shortly after receiving the alert. Officials confirmed that while the vehicles suffered significant damage, the passengers escaped with bruises and minor cuts. Those injured were shifted to a nearby community health center for first aid and were later discharged.

Traffic restored on Govindgarh route

The accident caused a brief standoff on the Rewa-Govindgarh route as the wreckage and the fallen electricity pole blocked a portion of the road. Police personnel worked with electricity department staff to ensure the power line was neutralized before using cranes to move the truck and the bus.

Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding and the truck driver's negligence were the primary causes of the mishap. A case has been registered, and authorities are looking into whether the truck driver was under the influence or if there was a mechanical failure.

Concerns over road safety

The stretch near Gangapur has seen a rise in traffic volume recently, and locals have frequently raised concerns about heavy vehicles speeding through school zones. This Rewa road accident has reignited the demand for better patrolling and speed breakers near educational institutions on the highway.

For now, the school administration has begun assessing the damage to the property, while the transport department is expected to verify the fitness certificates of both vehicles involved.
