Chhattisgarh Students Protest Over Teachers, Food, School Issues

Students in seven Chhattisgarh districts protested over teacher shortages, poor hostel food, school mismanagement, alleged corporal punishment and demands to remove principals and wardens.

Students in several parts of Chhattisgarh have taken to the streets over problems ranging from teacher shortages and poor-quality hostel food to allegations of corporal punishment and the absence of school principals. In several cases, students were joined by their parents, while some protests involved road blockades and sit-ins on major routes.

Over the past month, students have staged protests in different districts, demanding action from education officials and the removal of teachers, principals and hostel wardens. In some cases, authorities initiated inquiries or took action after complaints were raised. Here are seven recent cases that highlight the concerns being raised by students and their families.

In Durg district, students of the Swami Atmanand School in Pendrawan village blocked the Khairagarh-Dhamdha main road on August 21, protesting against a shortage of teachers. Students from Classes 9 to 12 said only five teachers were available, with subject-wise teaching affected because of the shortage. The students said the lack of adequate teachers was making it difficult to complete the syllabus and affecting their studies.

A similar protest took place in Korba, where students of the Eklavya Residential School in Chhuri have protested twice over their grievances. On August 13, students sat on the Korba-Katghora main road near Chhuri panchayat, causing traffic disruption. They demanded the removal of principal Dr Arshad Ahmed Ali and the hostel superintendent. Students alleged that their complaints were not handled properly and also raised concerns over the quality of food and basic facilities in the hostel.

In Dhamtari district, students and parents protested against teacher shortages at the government higher secondary school in Barna village on August 17. Students locked the school gate and staged a protest for around five hours despite the rain. The school reportedly has 175 students from Classes 9 to 12 but only five teachers. Protesters raised slogans against education officials and demanded action to address the shortage.

Another protest was reported from Balpur village in Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district on August 19. Local residents protested over poor road conditions and locked the gate of the Swami Atmanand School. Students who arrived at the school were unable to enter and subsequently joined the protest outside the gate. Following a complaint by the Block Education Officer, police registered an FIR against the village deputy sarpanch under Sections 126(2), 221 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

In Durg's Patora village, students and parents had earlier protested against the headmistress of a government middle school over an allegation of corporal punishment. The complaint alleged that a student was beaten with a thorny stick, resulting in an injury to his hand. Parents and students approached the District Education Officer's office, demanding the suspension of headmistress Mamta Shandilya. Officials said the matter would be investigated, although no action had been reported at the time of the source report.

In Korba district, schoolgirls staged a road blockade on the Katghora-Ambikapur National Highway on August 6, demanding the removal of the warden of a Kasturba Gandhi Girls Hostel in the Bango police station area. The students alleged that the superintendent, Sharda Netam, forced them to massage her hands and feet, conducted prayers late at night and provided poor-quality or undercooked food. Following an inquiry, the education department removed the warden from her post.

Students at the Eklavya Model Residential School in Dharamjaigarh, Raigarh district, also boycotted classes on August 6 over alleged administrative and hostel-related problems. Students claimed that the principal did not regularly attend the school and questioned the quality of food served in the hostel. They staged a protest on the school premises, demanding improvements in the institution's functioning.

The protests come amid a broader discussion in Uttar Pradesh about how authorities should respond when schoolchildren take to the streets. The Uttar Pradesh government is reportedly preparing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure that students' grievances are heard and resolved while protecting children's rights during protests. The proposed approach also emphasises avoiding the use of force against protesting students.

The recent incidents in Chhattisgarh underline recurring concerns around teacher availability, school administration, hostel facilities, food quality and student safety. While investigations and administrative action have followed some complaints, the protests show that students and parents are increasingly using public demonstrations to draw attention to problems inside schools and residential institutions.

Chhattisgarh Floods: Mahanadi Inundates Villages, Rivers in Spate as IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert

Flood-like conditions have affected several districts in Chhattisgarh after heavy rainfall. Villages remain inundated, rivers are above danger levels and rescue operations continue as IMD forecasts more rain in southern districts.

Heavy rainfall triggered by a deep depression over central India has pushed several rivers in Chhattisgarh close to or above danger levels, leading to flood-like conditions in multiple districts, damage to infrastructure and rescue operations in affected areas. While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a gradual decline in rainfall intensity across the state from Friday, heavy rain is still expected at isolated places in southern Chhattisgarh over the next 24 hours.

The rising water level of the Mahanadi River has created flood-like conditions in Raigarh district, particularly in Pusaur block, where villages including Surajgarh, Singhpuri, Changhori, Baradoli, Parsapali and Khafrapali have been affected by overflowing river water.

Rivers Swell, Villages Cut Off

Continuous rainfall over the past two days has significantly increased water levels in several rivers across the state. In Raipur, the Kharun River is flowing above the danger mark, prompting authorities to closely monitor vulnerable areas.

In Bastar division, a damaged culvert on National Highway-130 has disrupted connectivity to several villages, while movement on the Aranpur-Jagargunda road in Dantewada has been suspended due to the threat of landslides.

Bridge Collapse and Canal Damage Raise Concerns

In Gariaband district, a bridge under construction across the Udanti River collapsed on Thursday following heavy rainfall. The bridge, reportedly being built at a cost of around ₹9 crore, suffered extensive structural damage before completion.

Meanwhile, in Kanker district, a canal project worth approximately ₹15.5 crore reportedly developed major damage during the first spell of monsoon rains, raising questions over construction quality.

Rescue Operations Continue

Rescue teams remained active across flood-affected districts.

In Arang, six members of a family trapped inside their house after floodwater entered their village were safely rescued by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) using motorboats.

In Gariaband's Suhagpur Gothan, a family, including three children aged five, three and two years, remained stranded for nearly four hours before personnel from the State Disaster Response Force evacuated them safely.

Bodies Recovered After Search Operations

Search teams recovered the body of a 10-year-old boy who had been swept away in the Dheki River in Surajpur district. The child had gone missing two days earlier, and the body was located nearly 20–25 kilometres downstream after an extensive search operation by DDRF and police teams.

In another incident, rescue personnel recovered the bodies of a deputy sarpanch and his wife who were swept away while attempting to cross a flooded stream in Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district on July 26. Their submerged vehicle was located after an intensive search operation.

Rainfall Pattern Remains Uneven

According to official rainfall data, Chhattisgarh has received 477.8 mm of rainfall between June 1 and July 29, against the seasonal normal of 544.6 mm, leaving the state with an overall rainfall deficit of around 12 per cent. However, the IMD continues to classify the state's rainfall as within the normal range.

Rainfall distribution has varied considerably across districts. Sarangarh-Bilaigarh has recorded the highest rainfall this season with 769.1 mm, around 76 per cent above normal, while several districts continue to report rainfall deficits ranging between 20 and 59 per cent.

Rainfall Likely to Ease

The Meteorological Department said the deep depression responsible for the recent spell of heavy rain is moving westward, and rainfall intensity is expected to reduce gradually across most parts of the state.

However, heavy rainfall remains possible at isolated locations in southern Chhattisgarh over the next 24 hours. Authorities have advised residents in low-lying areas and along riverbanks to remain alert as water levels continue to fluctuate.

Raigarh Administration Reviews Law and Order, Orders Illegal Immigrant Verification Drive

Raigarh Collector and SSP reviewed law and order, ordered identification of illegal immigrants, planned heavy vehicle parking zones, and announced measures to improve road safety and traffic management.

The Raigarh district administration has directed officials to intensify verification drives to identify illegal immigrants and strengthen internal security while reviewing law and order arrangements across the district. The directions were issued during a high-level meeting chaired by Collector Mayank Chaturvedi and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shashi Mohan Singh.

The meeting covered 16 key agenda points, including law and order, road safety, traffic management, heavy vehicle parking, and measures to improve public safety.

Verification Drive for Illegal Immigrants

The Collector and SSP instructed revenue and police officials to jointly conduct verification drives to identify suspected illegal immigrants and monitor their activities. Officials were asked to act promptly on every input and ensure that district security is not compromised.

During the meeting, authorities informed participants that the Chhattisgarh government has launched a dedicated 24x7 toll-free helpline (1800-233-1905) for citizens to report information related to suspected illegal immigrants or suspicious activities.

Officials said the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential to encourage public participation in maintaining internal security.

Bus Stops Planned Outside City Limits

Traffic congestion caused by buses transporting industrial workers was also discussed during the meeting.

Municipal Corporation officials informed the administration that the movement of employee buses inside the city is adding to traffic pressure. The Collector directed the Municipal Corporation, Revenue Department, Traffic Police and Transport Department to identify suitable locations on the outskirts of the city for developing dedicated bus stops.

The move is expected to reduce congestion in the city's core areas.

Heavy Vehicle Parking by September 30

To improve traffic management, the administration instructed officials to identify designated parking zones for heavy vehicles by September 30.

Locations identified for the proposed parking facilities include Gharghoda Bypass Road, Banjari Temple area, Punjipathra Road, Tamnar, Rani Sagar Chowk in Kharsia, and Girwani Road.

Officials believe that shifting heavy vehicles to organised parking areas outside congested zones will help reduce traffic bottlenecks and lower the risk of road accidents on national highways.

Crackdown on Illegal Parking

The Collector also ordered strict enforcement against illegally parked heavy vehicles along national highways and major roads.

Departments concerned were directed to ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations while accelerating improvement work at identified accident-prone black spots.

Road Safety Campaign Continues

Officials informed the meeting that action against overspeeding vehicles and illegal parking is already underway through the use of interceptor vehicles and speed radar guns.

According to the administration, 3,762 motorists were penalised during the previous year for violating traffic rules.

Authorities also highlighted ongoing initiatives such as joint inspections of accident-prone locations, regular highway patrolling, traffic awareness campaigns in rural areas, street plays, and road safety education programmes in schools.

The district administration said these measures aim to improve road safety, strengthen internal security and ensure better traffic management across Raigarh.

The judgment was delivered by the Court of the Sixth Additional Sessions Judge, which held the accused guilty of murder after examining eyewitness testimony, forensic evidence and other material presented during the trial.

The case dates back to January 28, 2024, when Chakradhar Nagar police received information that a man had been found dead near the main road in Navapali village. The victim, identified as Vishal Singh Thakur, had suffered multiple fatal injuries to his head and neck caused by a sharp-edged weapon.

Police reached the spot, registered a case and began an investigation. During the preliminary inquiry, investigators inspected the crime scene, collected physical evidence and recorded statements from eyewitnesses.

According to the prosecution, Vishal Singh Thakur had been supervising land levelling and bush-clearing work on a disputed piece of land when an argument broke out with Harilal Khadia over the filling of soil on the property.

The dispute allegedly escalated, following which the accused attacked Vishal repeatedly with an axe, inflicting severe injuries to his head and neck. The victim died at the scene.

Investigating officers seized several articles from the crime scene, including the victim's motorcycle, blood-stained cap, spectacles, footwear and soil samples. These materials were later sent for forensic examination as part of the investigation.

Police arrested Harilal Khadia on January 29, 2024. During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted to committing the crime. Based on his disclosure, investigators recovered the axe believed to have been used in the attack along with blood-stained clothing.

The recovered articles were forwarded to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), whose findings were presented during the trial as supporting evidence.

During court proceedings, Additional Public Prosecutor Tanmay Banerjee represented the prosecution, while the investigation was led by Inspector Prashant Rao Aher. The prosecution examined 20 witnesses and relied on documentary, forensic and scientific evidence to establish the sequence of events.

After evaluating the evidence and hearing arguments from both sides, the court concluded that the prosecution had proved the charges beyond reasonable doubt.

The court convicted Harilal Khadia under the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code for murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment. It also imposed a fine of ₹100.

In addition to the sentence, the court recommended that the victim's family receive ₹1 lakh as compensation under the Chhattisgarh Government's Victim Compensation Scheme, recognising the impact of the crime on the deceased's dependants.

The verdict brings the trial to a close more than two years after the fatal incident and reinforces the importance of forensic evidence and eyewitness testimony in securing convictions in serious criminal cases.

In the first phase of the campaign, drivers violating the rules were issued warnings and counseled. Police have made it clear that any repeat offence will invite strict action under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Before launching the inspection drive, Traffic DSP Uttam Pratap Singh held a meeting with representatives of school managements and office-bearers of the auto drivers' association. During the meeting, he stressed the importance of student safety and instructed drivers not to carry more children than the approved seating capacity of their vehicles.

Police Launch Special Inspection Drive

Traffic police teams conducted intensive inspections of school autos at various locations across Raigarh on Monday. During the drive, several vehicles were found transporting children in excess of their permitted capacity.

Instead of taking immediate punitive action, officials chose to counsel the drivers and issued a formal warning. They were informed that any future violation would lead to legal action, including fines and other penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Zero Tolerance for Drunk Driving

DSP Uttam Pratap Singh also warned that strict action would be taken against any school auto driver found operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Police said such drivers would face legal proceedings, their vehicles would be seized, and the matter would be presented before the court.

Children's Safety Is Top Priority

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shashi Mohan Singh said ensuring the safety of schoolchildren remains the department's highest priority.

He directed school authorities and transport operators to comply with all prescribed safety norms, adding that overloading, negligent driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol would be closely monitored. Violators will face strict legal action in future inspection drives.

The traffic police have appealed to parents, school managements, and vehicle operators to work together to ensure safe and secure transportation for students.

A retired South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) employee and his wife were allegedly murdered with an axe over a long-running land dispute in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district, with the accused later setting their bodies and house on fire in an attempt to portray the crime as an accidental blaze.

Police have arrested two brothers in connection with the double murder, which took place in Krondha village under the Dharamjaigarh police station limits.

Bodies Found Inside Burnt House

According to police, the charred bodies of Mangal Rathia (65), a retired SECL employee, and his wife Punei Bai Rathia (55) were discovered inside their house on July 15.

Following the incident, teams from the local police, forensic science laboratory (FSL), dog squad and senior officers reached the spot to collect evidence. A case of murder, destruction of evidence and other relevant offences was registered against unidentified persons, and an investigation was launched.

Land Dispute Led to Murder

During the investigation, police found that the victims had purchased four acres of agricultural land in Krondha village by offering a higher price than other prospective buyers.

Investigators said the land purchase had triggered a prolonged dispute with members of another family in the village.

According to police, the accused allegedly conspired to eliminate the elderly couple over the ownership dispute.

Police Dog Helped Crack the Case

A breakthrough came when the police dog squad tracked the scent from the axe allegedly used in the murder.

Police said the sniffer dog, Ruby, led investigators directly to one of the suspects, Shyam Lal Rathia. Subsequent forensic evidence, technical analysis and witness statements strengthened the case against him and his brother Jeevan Lal Rathia.

During interrogation, both accused allegedly confessed to the crime.

Killed With Axe, Bodies Burned

Police said the accused reached the victims' house on the night of July 14 carrying an axe.

As soon as Mangal Rathia opened the door, he was allegedly attacked repeatedly with the weapon. Hearing the commotion, his wife came outside and was also assaulted and killed.

To destroy evidence, the accused allegedly placed clothes, sofa covers and other household items over the bodies before setting them on fire. They also ignited two rooms of the house in an attempt to make the incident appear to be an accidental fire.

The accused allegedly fled after abandoning the murder weapon at the scene.

Weapon, Clothes Recovered

Based on the disclosure statements of the accused, police recovered the axe allegedly used in the crime along with the clothes worn during the incident.

Both accused—Shyam Lal Rathia (32) and Jeevan Lal Rathia (48), residents of Krondha village—were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.

Police Warn Against Taking Law Into Own Hands

Raigarh Senior Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh said land disputes and personal conflicts should be resolved through legal means rather than violence.

He said the case demonstrated how scientific investigation, forensic evidence and police dog assistance helped solve a carefully planned crime and bring the accused to justice.

The investigation into the case is continuing.

The incident occurred in Krondha village under Dharamjaigarh police station limits, where the elderly couple had been living after retirement to manage their agricultural land. Police, forensic experts and a dog squad have been deployed to collect evidence from the scene.

Bodies Found Inside House

The deceased have been identified as Manglu Ram Rathia (65), a retired SECL loader operator, and his wife Punei Bai Rathia.

According to police, the couple was found dead inside their residence, with both bodies partially burnt. Bloodstains reportedly found near the woman's body have further strengthened suspicions of foul play, although investigators have not yet confirmed the exact cause of death.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and officials said the findings will be crucial in determining whether the deaths resulted from homicide or any other circumstances.

Couple Had Shifted for Farming

Family members said Manglu Ram Rathia retired from SECL around five years ago. After retirement, he purchased nearly four acres of agricultural land in Krondha village and built a house there to pursue paddy cultivation with his wife.

Originally from Auramuda village in Gharghoda, the couple had shifted to Krondha primarily for farming and had been residing there since acquiring the property.

Caretaker Alerted Villagers

According to the deceased's son-in-law, Veer Singh, a caretaker had been appointed to oversee the farmland and the house.

On Wednesday morning, the caretaker reportedly arrived at the property for routine work and discovered the incident. He immediately informed the village sarpanch and local residents, following which police were alerted.

Veer Singh said the circumstances strongly suggest murder, though investigators are awaiting forensic findings before drawing any conclusions.

Forensic Teams Examine Scene

Senior police officials, forensic experts and a dog squad reached the spot soon after receiving information.

Investigators conducted a detailed examination of the crime scene and collected physical evidence to establish the sequence of events. Police said all possible angles, including murder followed by an attempt to destroy evidence by setting the bodies on fire, are being examined.

Authorities have not disclosed whether any valuables were missing from the house or whether any suspects have been identified.

Police Await Post-Mortem Report

Officials said the exact cause of death will be established only after receiving the post-mortem report, forensic analysis and other scientific evidence.

Police have appealed to local residents to share any information that could assist the investigation and said further action will be taken based on the evidence collected.

Raigarh Among Districts Recording High Murder Cases

According to data from the Chhattisgarh Home Department, Raigarh registered 114 murder cases between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2026, placing it among the districts with the highest number of homicide cases in the state.

During the same period, Raipur recorded the highest number of murder cases at 169, followed by Jashpur and Raigarh with 114 cases each, while Durg and Surguja reported 113 murders each.

The investigation into the deaths of the retired SECL employee and his wife remains underway.

Bilaspur Accident: SUV Falls 30 Feet From Unfinished Bharatmala Bridge, Four Seriously Injured

Four youths were seriously injured after their SUV plunged from an under-construction Bharatmala bridge near Bilaspur. Police are probing whether inadequate safety measures at the site contributed to the accident.

Four young men sustained serious injuries after their SUV plunged nearly 30 feet from an under-construction bridge on the Bharatmala National Highway near Bilaspur on Monday night, triggering fresh concerns over safety arrangements at ongoing infrastructure projects.

The accident took place near Darighat-Dhenka Karra under the Torwa police station limits, where a bridge over the Arpa River is currently under construction. Police said the vehicle, a Tata Nexon, was travelling from Korba towards Bilaspur when it reportedly entered the incomplete stretch of the highway and fell off the unfinished bridge.

Driver Failed to Notice Incomplete Stretch

According to the preliminary investigation, the SUV was travelling at a high speed when the driver failed to realise that the bridge construction was incomplete and the road ahead had not yet been connected.

The vehicle reportedly continued onto the unfinished section before becoming airborne and crashing nearly 30 feet below. The impact left the SUV extensively damaged and all four occupants seriously injured.

Villagers Led Rescue Effort

Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing the loud crash and immediately alerted the police.

Teams from Torwa Police, the Dial-112 emergency service and ambulance personnel reached the scene and, with the help of villagers, rescued the trapped occupants from the mangled vehicle.

All four injured youths were shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. Hospital authorities said their condition is serious, though further medical updates are awaited.

Victims Were Travelling to Raipur

Police said the injured are residents of Raigarh district. They had reportedly travelled through Korba and were on their way to Raipur when the accident occurred.

Authorities have informed their family members about the incident.

Questions Raised Over Highway Safety

The accident has once again drawn attention to safety arrangements at construction sites under the Bharatmala highway project.

Investigators are examining whether adequate barricades, reflective warning signs, diversion markers and caution boards had been installed at the unfinished bridge to alert motorists, particularly during night-time travel.

Officials are also assessing whether visibility conditions or the absence of sufficient warning systems contributed to the accident.

Police Begin Investigation

Torwa Police have registered the case and initiated an investigation into all aspects of the incident.

Investigators will examine the vehicle's speed, the condition of the construction site, road safety compliance by the executing agency and any possible negligence that may have contributed to the crash.

The findings are expected to determine whether further action is required against those responsible for maintaining safety at the construction zone.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl over multiple days inside an under-construction building near the Women's Police Station. The accused was caught by local residents after the girl raised an alarm during an alleged third assault attempt.

Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused is currently in police custody.

Victim Raised Alarm During Alleged Third Assault

According to police and preliminary information, the teenage girl, who reportedly survives by begging and often stayed with her mother at the unfinished building, was allegedly assaulted by the accused after he befriended her.

Investigators said the accused allegedly threatened the girl with dire consequences if she disclosed the incidents. On the third alleged attempt, the girl resisted and screamed for help, drawing the attention of people nearby.

Local residents rushed to the spot, overpowered the accused and later handed him over to the Women's Police Station.

Police Register POCSO Case

Based on the survivor's statement, police registered a case against the accused under the POCSO Act and other applicable provisions related to sexual assault.

Officials confirmed that the accused has been arrested and that further investigation is underway.

The identity of the survivor has not been disclosed in accordance with legal provisions protecting the privacy of minors in sexual offence cases.

Incident Spot Under Scrutiny

The alleged crime took place inside an under-construction Congress building located on Darogapara Road, close to the Women's Police Station.

According to local residents, the partially constructed structure has remained vacant for several years and is frequently used as temporary shelter by homeless people, waste pickers and individuals who survive by begging.

The incident has raised concerns over the security of abandoned and unfinished structures located in urban areas.

Residents Intervened Before Police Arrival

Witnesses said residents reached the building after hearing the girl's cries for help and restrained the accused before informing police.

Videos circulating on social media reportedly show the accused being assaulted by members of the public before he was taken to the police station. Authorities have not commented on the viral footage.

Police have appealed to the public to allow legal authorities to handle criminal cases through due process.

Investigation Continues

Investigators are collecting evidence, recording witness statements and conducting medical and forensic procedures as part of the investigation.

Police said the case is being treated with priority due to the survivor being a minor. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.

Raigarh Man Arrested for Allegedly Forcing Child to Chant Anti-India Slogans; Police Probe Continues

The investigation is ongoing.

A 43-year-old man from Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district has been arrested over allegations of domestic abuse, religious coercion and allegedly forcing his minor son to chant pro-Pakistan slogans. The accused, identified as Wasim Mohammad, was brought out of jail on a one-day production warrant as police intensified their investigation into the case.

According to police, investigators took the accused to the alleged crime scene in Jogidipa village under the Pusaur police station limits to reconstruct events and verify evidence. During the investigation, officers questioned him about various aspects of the case. Police officials also stated that the accused was made to raise slogans of "Hindustan Zindabad" and "Pakistan Murdabad" during the investigation process.

Case Originates from Woman's Complaint

The case stems from a complaint filed on May 29, 2026, by a 35-year-old woman from Korba district. In her complaint, she alleged that Wasim Mohammad had introduced himself as a divorced man before developing a relationship with her. The two later married in 2021 following Muslim religious customs.

The complainant later discovered that the accused was already married and had not divorced his first wife. She alleged that he had concealed his first marriage and the existence of his five children before their marriage. The woman also has two children of her own.

Allegations of Abuse and Religious Pressure

According to the complaint, the relationship deteriorated after the birth of their child. The woman alleged that her husband began physically assaulting her and repeatedly pressured her to follow religious practices, including reciting the Kalma, offering Namaz and observing Roza.

She further claimed that despite following his instructions, she was frequently assaulted and driven out of the house.

The complainant also alleged that the accused exploited her vulnerable situation, claiming she had limited support after leaving her previous social environment.

Claims of Anti-India Slogans

One of the most serious allegations in the complaint is that the accused allegedly forced both the complainant and her minor children to chant "Pakistan Zindabad" slogans while using abusive language against India. According to the woman, refusal to comply allegedly resulted in physical and mental harassment.

These allegations are currently under investigation, and police have not yet publicly released findings confirming the claims.

Police Register Multiple Charges

Following the complaint, police registered a case against Wasim Mohammad under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 85, 351, 152 and 197, along with Section 4 of the Chhattisgarh Freedom of Religion Act, 1968.

Investigators obtained a production warrant from the court, allowing the accused to be taken into police custody for one day to facilitate further questioning and site inspection. After completing the investigation-related procedures, he was produced before the court again and remanded back to judicial custody.

Senior Officers Monitoring Investigation

Raigarh Senior Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh said the investigation is being conducted on the basis of available evidence. He stated that crimes against women, activities allegedly affecting national integrity and incidents disturbing social harmony are being investigated with seriousness.

The investigation is being supervised by Deputy Superintendent of Police Unnati Thakur, while Pusaur Police Station in-charge Harshvardhan Singh Bais is leading the inquiry.

Police said statements, digital evidence and other material collected during the investigation will be examined before any further legal action is taken. Authorities have reiterated that the case remains under investigation and that conclusions will be based on evidence gathered during the probe.

Thunderstorms Lash Raigarh; Temperature Dropping to 33°C

Heavy rain and strong winds bring relief from humidity in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. IMD forecasts a week-long rainy spell while power cuts trouble citizens.

After a brief two-day lull, the weather took a dramatic turn in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district on Tuesday evening. Massive convective thunderclouds enveloped the skies, bringing heavy downpours accompanied by intense lightning and strong winds. The sudden meteorological shift has brought much-needed respite to local residents who were struggling under severe oppressive humidity, while signaling a structural drop in regional temperatures.

According to the Meteorological Department, this active weather pattern is expected to persist, with intermittent light-to-moderate rains and localized squalls predicted throughout the upcoming week.

Temperature Set to Plunge by 4 Degrees Over 48 Hours

The regional climate dashboard had logged a maximum temperature of $37.3^\circ\text{C}$ on Monday, causing widespread discomfort due to high moisture levels. However, the arriving rain bands are already pushing the mercury down.

Raigarh Temperature Trajectory Forecast:

├── Monday Baseline: 37.3°C (Peak humidity)

├── Tuesday Target : 35.9°C (Drop of ~2°C post-rain)

└── Wednesday Target: 33.0°C (Further drop of 2°C)

This progressive cooling is expected to permanently dissolve the residual pre-monsoon heat crust, transitioning the district into a much cooler evening cycle.

Widespread Showers Reported Across Rural Interior Belts

The thunderstorm was not restricted to urban Raigarh. Sub-divisional monitoring stations reported substantial precipitation and strong winds across the rural and forested interiors of the district.

Significant rainfall and heavy wind speeds were tracked across:

· Chhal

· Dharamjaigarh

· Jamanga

· Tilga-Bhagora pockets

These rural downpours have provided vital soil moisture configuration for local farmers currently preparing their fields for the kharif sowing cycle.

Frequent Power Outages Leave Residents Frustrated

While the rain brought cooler air, it exposed severe vulnerabilities in the city’s electricity distribution infrastructure. Multiple neighborhoods falling under Zone-2 experienced prolonged blackouts starting Monday afternoon.

Power Infrastructure Log:

├── Pre-Storm Status: Intermittent maintenance outages recorded

├── Peak Storm Phase : Immediate tripping as lightning/thunder commenced

└── Post-Storm Status: Supply failed to normalize hours after rain ceased

Disgruntled residents hit out at the electricity department, pointing out that despite frequent power cuts carried out under the label of "pre-monsoon maintenance" over the last few months, the grid collapsed at the very first instance of moderate lightning and wind. Senior technical officials stated that teams were deployed to rectify tripped feeders and repair lines broken by falling tree branches.
