MP Laghu Udyog Nigam Chief Arrives by E-Rickshaw to Take Charge

Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for restrained fuel use amid global uncertainty, newly appointed Madhya Pradesh Laghu Udyog Nigam chairman Satyendra Bhushan Singh reached the BJP office in Bhopal in a battery-operated e-rickshaw before formally assuming office on Monday.

Bhopal witnessed an unusual political scene on Monday morning as newly appointed Madhya Pradesh Small Industries Corporation chairman Satyendra Bhushan Singh travelled in an e-rickshaw to take charge of his new assignment. The move came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption in view of global tensions linked to the Israel-Iran conflict.

Singh left from his residence in Awadhpuri area and headed towards the state BJP office in a battery-powered vehicle. Visuals from the route showed supporters accompanying him, although many of them arrived separately in cars and SUVs.

Symbolic Entry

The newly appointed chairman’s e-rickshaw ride quickly drew attention in political circles, particularly because it coincided with the Prime Minister’s remarks on fuel conservation. Party workers gathered outside the BJP office as Singh arrived to formally begin his tenure.

According to party leaders present at the venue, the gesture was intended to support the broader message of reducing dependence on conventional fuel amid rising global uncertainty.

Supporters Arrive Separately

Questions were raised after several supporters were seen reaching the BJP office in a convoy of vehicles despite the symbolic e-rickshaw journey.

Responding to the issue, Rakesh Singh Jadaun said only three people had accompanied Singh in the e-rickshaw. He added that supporters may have used their own means of transport and that he was not aware of how many vehicles had arrived with them.

The brief exchange became a talking point among party workers and local media present at the state headquarters.

Multiple Leaders Take Charge

Apart from Singh, several other newly appointed office-bearers also assumed responsibilities on Monday.

Pankaj Joshi and Rakesh Singh Jadaun formally took charge at the Madhya Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries Board. Meanwhile, Prabhu Dayal Kushwaha also assumed office as chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Kush Samaj Kalyan Board.

Before the ceremonies, all leaders gathered at the BJP state office where they paid floral tribute to party ideologues Deendayal Upadhyaya and Syama Prasad Mukherjee in the presence of state BJP president Hemant Khandelwal.

PM Modi’s Appeal

The developments in Bhopal came shortly after Prime Minister Modi’s remarks at a BJP rally in Hyderabad on Sunday, where he spoke about the economic risks posed by the ongoing tensions in West Asia.

The Prime Minister said India remains heavily dependent on imported crude oil and warned that international conflicts could sharply affect fuel prices. He urged citizens to minimise unnecessary petrol and diesel consumption and encouraged greater use of metro rail systems and work-from-home arrangements wherever possible.

Modi also appealed to people to avoid purchasing gold for a year as part of a broader call for economic restraint during uncertain global conditions.

Fuel Prices in Focus

Although retail fuel prices in India have not seen major immediate spikes, concerns over global crude supply disruptions have remained in focus since tensions escalated between Israel and Iran.

Economists and energy analysts have indicated that prolonged instability in the region could eventually affect import costs for countries like India, which rely significantly on overseas oil supplies.

Against that backdrop, symbolic political gestures linked to fuel conservation are likely to gain visibility in the coming weeks.

Political Messaging Ahead

The e-rickshaw ride by the MP Laghu Udyog Nigam chairman also carried a political message ahead of upcoming organisational activities within the BJP in Madhya Pradesh.

Party leaders described the move as an attempt to align with the Prime Minister’s public appeal while projecting support for sustainable and low-cost transport options.

Whether the gesture translates into broader public messaging on fuel conservation remains to be seen, but it succeeded in drawing attention on Singh’s first day in office.
