A major security-related case has surfaced in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur after police arrested a man accused of possessing materials allegedly linked to bomb-making activities. The accused, identified as Vinay Dewangan, was arrested from the Khamtarai police station area following an investigation into suspicious explosive-related items recovered earlier this month.

Police officials confirmed that low-intensity explosive material, detonators, wires, batteries, and chemical substances were seized during the operation carried out in the Rava Bhatha locality. The case has attracted attention because the accused is reportedly related to a local civic body representative.

Police Conducted Operation

According to police sources, authorities received information on May 7 regarding a suspicious individual allegedly carrying a pistol and materials commonly associated with explosive devices in the Rava Bhatha area of Raipur.

After receiving the alert, teams from the local police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) rushed to the spot and initiated a detailed inspection. During the search operation, officials reportedly recovered several suspicious items including detonators, electrical wiring, batteries, and bottles containing chemical substances. Authorities later confirmed that the seized material included low-intensity explosive components.

Bomb Squad Reached Spot

The recovery of suspected explosive material prompted an immediate response from the bomb squad and forensic experts. Security agencies cordoned off the area during the examination process to ensure public safety. The case has gained wider attention after reports emerged that the accused is related to elected representatives linked to Birgaon Municipal Corporation. According to local sources, Vinay Dewangan is reportedly the brother-in-law of Birgaon Mayor Nandlal Dewangan. Authorities, however, have clarified that the investigation will proceed strictly on the basis of evidence recovered during the probe. No official statement regarding the allegations has yet been issued by the mayor’s office.
