Summer heat isn’t just physically exhausting — it’s taking a toll on mental health too. As temperatures soar across India, experts are reporting a surge in summer-related anxiety, irritability, and sleep disturbances. Here are five natural stress relief hacks that work without pills.

Hack One: Left Nostril Breathing

Try left nostril breathing (Chandra Nadi Pranayama) for 11 minutes when you feel summer irritability rising. Within five minutes, you’ll notice your heart rate slowing and your mind clearing. This ancient yogic technique cools the nervous system naturally.

Hack Two: Bhramari Pranayama (Humming Bee Breath)

Wake up 15 minutes earlier than usual. Sit near a window or balcony facing east. Practice Bhramari Pranayama for three minutes. The humming vibration calms the mind and reduces anxiety, making it one of the most effective mental health summer tips.

Hack Three: Flower Therapy

Place a bowl of fresh flowers near your workspace and inhale deeply every hour. Aromatherapy using natural flowers like jasmine, rose, orm mogra has been shown to reduce cortisol levels and improve mood.

Hack Four: Earthing (Grounding)Walk barefoot on grass or earth for ten minutes before sunset. This practice, known as earthing, helps discharge static electricity from the body and has been linked to reduced inflammation and better sleep.

Hack Five: Gentle Breathing Practices

Breathing practices work for everyone, irrespective of age. Whether dealing with mental health issues or physical health, adding gentle breathing practices can help manage both better.

Experts suggest waking up early, reducing screen exposure after 8 PM, and incorporating these natural stress relief hacks into daily routines. When followed consistently, these practices can significantly improve energy, enhance sleep quality, and reduce stress.

On the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day, a mass yoga program was organized at the sports complex in Rewa on Sunday morning. Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla performed yoga and gave a message of healthy living to the people.

Rewa MP Janardan Mishra, Vindhya Vikas Pradhikaran chairman, Rewa IG Gaurav Rajput, administrative officials, employees and a large number of citizens participated in the event.

Under the guidance of yoga instructors, everyone performed various asanas, pranayama and meditation. The entire complex was filled with enthusiasm and positive energy. Participants practiced yoga with discipline and concentration and took a pledge for a healthy lifestyle.

Shukla said yoga is not just a one-day event but a complete discipline for living a healthy and balanced life. "If a person wants a disease-free body and a healthy mind, they must do yoga daily. Regular yoga keeps the body healthy and also relieves mental stress," he said.

He emphasized that yoga is India's ancient tradition and cultural heritage. Today the entire world is recognizing its importance. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts for giving yoga global recognition, with many countries now observing Yoga Day.

"Yoga is our ancient Indian discipline. If you want to stay healthy, you have to make yoga, pranayama and meditation a part of your life. Today the whole world is adopting this tradition of India, and this is a matter of pride for us," Rajendra Shukla said.

The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted that amid growing stress and lifestyle diseases, yoga, pranayama and meditation have become extremely essential. He appealed to people to include yoga in their daily routine and inspire their family members and others in society to do the same.

"A healthy society and a strong nation can only be built when yoga reaches every household," he added.

Every afternoon, across Indian offices and homes, a collective wave of lethargy hits. People reach for sugary energy drinks or chai. But the subsequent insulin crash makes the tiredness worse. This summer, health influencers are promoting natural energy hacks that provide sustained release of energy by working with the body’s circadian rhythm.

Why You Crash At 3 PM

Biologically, the body experiences a dip in cortisol (alertness hormone) around 2:30 PM to 4 PM. In summer, digestion of a heavy lunch requires massive blood flow. Instead of fighting this rhythm, we should support it with specific nutrients and breathing patterns.

Hack One: Soaked Almonds And Fox Nuts (Makhana)

Eat 4 soaked almonds (peeled) and a handful of roasted makhana at 2:45 PM sharp. Soaked almonds have their enzyme inhibitors removed, making vitamin E instantly available. Makhana provides complex carbohydrates that release glucose slowly over 3 hours. This natural energy hack prevents the 3 PM tremors and hunger pangs.

Hack Two: Shitali Pranayama (Cooling Breath)

Roll your tongue into a tube (or purse your lips if you cannot roll). Inhale slowly through the mouth, feeling the air cool on your tongue. Hold for 5 seconds. Exhale through the nose. Repeat 10 times. This breathing technique lowers blood temperature and sends a signal to the hypothalamus to release adrenaline naturally. It is more effective than a cold shower.

Hack Three: Smelling Raw Ginger

When the eyes feel heavy, cut a fresh piece of ginger and sniff it deeply 3 times. The volatile oils (gingerols) stimulate the trigeminal nerve, which bypasses the tiredness center in the brain. This is a zero-calorie, zero-caffeine daily life naturally improving hack used by truck drivers to stay alert on long highways.

Final Advice

Do not fight the heat; hack it. These natural energy hacks are designed for the specific climate of Indian summers in 2026. By integrating soaked nuts and cooling pranayama into your daily schedule, you can eliminate the afternoon slump permanently. Stay natural, stay productive.

AC Giving You a Stuffy Nose? Fix It with 5 Minutes of Nadi Shodhana

As Indians seal themselves in refrigerated rooms, "AC Rhinitis" (runny nose) is affecting 1 in 3 people. On May 21, a pranayama technique is prescribed as the cure.

The AC Sickness

Constant exposure to dry, cold air damages the nasal cilia (tiny hairs that trap dust). This leads to chronic sneezing and mucus buildup. People buy expensive nasal sprays that cause rebound congestion. The natural solution is to warm the nasal passages from within using breath control.

The 5-Minute Hack

Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing). Sit straight. Use your right thumb to close your right nostril. Inhale through the left nostril for 4 seconds. Close the left nostril with ring finger. Release the right nostril. Exhale for 4 seconds. Inhale through the right. Close and exhale left. Do this for 5 minutes.

Why It Works

This practice equalizes the flow of air between both nostrils. It warms the incoming air and filters out allergens. Unlike a spray that just constricts blood vessels, Nadi Shodhana strengthens the lung muscles. It also calms anxiety caused by claustrophobic AC rooms.

Expert Instruction

Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev (in a morning telecast) stated, "Do not do this while lying down. The nose must be upright. Do it before breakfast. It will clear your head faster than any pill."

Daily Integration

Do this while sitting in your car before starting the engine. Or do it at your desk before the first meeting. IT professional Sneha Pillai shared, "My AC at work is very harsh. After doing this for 2 days, I stopped using my allergy medicine."

Safety Note

Never force your breath. If you feel dizzy, stop and breathe normally. Those with severe deviated septum may find it difficult but not harmful. This natural health hack is free and requires no equipment.

The Verdict

With global warming making AC a necessity, Nadi Shodhana is the essential skill for 2026. It turns a harmful environment into a manageable one. Spend 5 minutes on this daily life health routine to breathe easy all summer long.

Zero-Cost Technique Gains Popularity During Heatwave

As temperatures cross 45°C in parts of India, a simple breathing exercise is emerging as the most accessible natural health hack for immediate cooling.

Understanding the Mechanism Behind Cooling Breath

Sheetali pranayama involves rolling the tongue into a tube shape. Air passing over the moist tongue creates an evaporative cooling effect that lowers body temperature within minutes.

Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners

Sit comfortably with spine straight. Roll the tongue's sides upward. Inhale slowly through the rolled tongue. Hold briefly. Exhale through nostrils. Repeat for five minutes.

Scientific Validation from Indian Institutions

Yoga researcher Dr. Vikram Joshi confirms that this practice activates the body's parasympathetic nervous system. This reduces heat stress markers significantly.

When to Practice for Best Results

Morning practice prepares the body for the day ahead. Afternoon practice provides relief during peak heat hours. Evening practice helps restore normal temperature before sleep.

Adaptations for Those Unable to Roll Tongue

Those who cannot roll their tongue can use sheetkari pranayama instead. This involves clamping teeth together and inhaling through the mouth with tongue against teeth.

Public Health Implications for Summer 2026

With heatwaves becoming more frequent, health authorities are promoting this technique as a first-line response for heat discomfort. Schools in Rajasthan have started teaching it to students.

No equipment, no cost, no side effects. Five minutes of this breathing exercise can cool your body naturally. Try it during the next heatwave and feel the difference instantly.

On 13th May 2026, clinical psychologists report a sharp increase in irritability, anxiety, and mood swings linked to summer heat. The body's stress hormone cortisol rises 15-20% during heat waves, according to a 2025 study from NIMHANS Bengaluru. Natural health hacks involving controlled breathing and direct contact with earth offer powerful, zero-cost relief.

Pranayama: Nadi Shodhana for Calm

Alternate nostril breathing, known as nadi shodhana, balances the left (resting) and right (active) brain hemispheres. Sit comfortably. Use right thumb to close right nostril. Inhale through left nostril. Close left nostril with ring finger. Exhale through right nostril. Repeat for 10 rounds. Do this at 7 AM and 7 PM. Corporate employees in Mumbai who practice this report a 50% reduction in workplace anxiety within 10 days.

Bhramari Pranayama (Humming Bee Breath)

For instant relief during a panic attack, close your ears with thumbs, place fingers over closed eyes, and inhale deeply. Exhale slowly while making a humming sound like a bee. This vibrates the sinuses and calms the vagus nerve. Three rounds of bhramari lower heart rate by 10-15 beats per minute.

Earthing or Grounding on Grass

Walking barefoot on natural grass, soil, or sand transfers electrons from the earth into your body. These electrons neutralize free radicals and reduce inflammation. On summer mornings (6-7 AM) or evenings (5-6 PM), find a park or garden. Remove shoes and socks. Walk slowly for 15 minutes. A 2026 pilot study at JNU Delhi showed that grounding lowered cortisol levels by 28% after 4 weeks.

Combining with Sunlight for Synergy

Combine earthing with morning sunlight exposure from earlier hacks. Stand barefoot on grass while facing the rising sun. Take 10 deep breaths. This triple-action hack – sunlight, earthing, and breathwork – resets your nervous system completely. Residents of Chandigarh's Sector 17 park have formed a "Morning Grounding Club" with over 200 members.

Background: Urban Stress Epidemic

India ranks second globally in workplace stress, according to the 2025 Global Wellness Index. Air conditioning, concrete buildings, and constant screen time disconnect people from natural rhythms. Summer exacerbates this because people avoid going outside during daytime.

Expert Statement

"Modern life has made us electrically imbalanced. Earthing is not pseudoscience; it's physiology," says Dr. Vikram Patel, mental health researcher at Sangath. "We recommend 20 minutes of grounding daily alongside pranayama for stress reduction naturally."

Impact on Schools and Offices

Schools in Pune have introduced mandatory 10-minute pranayama sessions before first period. IT parks in Hyderabad are creating dedicated barefoot walking zones. As summer 2026 continues, mental health professionals urge every Indian to step outside and breathe consciously.

What Next

The National Mental Health Programme plans to include pranayama in its community toolkit by August 2026. Download apps like "Pranayama India" for guided sessions. Start today with just 5 minutes – your mind will feel noticeably lighter by tomorrow.
