The central survey team for Swachh Survekshan 2025-26 reached Bhopal from Delhi on Wednesday evening, marking the start of the crucial on-ground assessment. Inspection work is likely to commence from Thursday, with the team expected to first evaluate Berasia Municipality under the Clean City Pair initiative before moving into Bhopal Municipal Corporation limits.

According to BMC officials, the team had not logged into the official survey portal till late Wednesday night. However, preparations are in full swing as the clock ticks for the formal inspection.

Berasia First Stop Under Clean City Pair

Sources said the survey may kick off from Berasia, where the sanitation and waste management systems of the municipality will be thoroughly checked. This pair inspection format is part of the Swachh Bharat Mission’s strategy to assess neighbouring urban bodies together. Only after reviewing Berasia is the team expected to enter core BMC areas.

The development has put civic authorities on high alert, with last-minute drives to ensure visible cleanliness across markets, back lanes, public toilets, and major roads.

Madhya Pradesh Shines in Citizen Feedback

In a positive update, Madhya Pradesh has secured the second position nationally in citizen feedback for the ongoing Swachh Survekshan. Bhopal Municipal Corporation has already met its 10% target for citizen participation, which officials believe will strengthen the city’s overall score.

BMC Commissioner Sanskriti Jain said the corporation has successfully achieved its target of citizen feedback. “We have successfully achieved our target of citizen feedback. Any additional participation will be an added advantage. Continuous cleanliness drives are being conducted, and citizens are cooperating actively in the Swachh Survekshan campaign,” she stated.

Focus Remains on Visible Cleanliness

With the team now in the city, the BMC’s emphasis is on parameters that carry heavy weight under the new guidelines — especially the 1,500-point Visible Cleanliness indicator. Fresh paintings on public toilets, back lane beautification, drain desilting, and intensified garbage collection in commercial hubs like New Market, Old City, Karond, Kolar, and Bairagarh are part of the final push.

However, challenges persist. The legacy waste mountain at Adampur dump site, frequent fires, damaged dustbins, and garbage accumulation in several markets and slum pockets continue to test the administration’s efforts. Construction barricades with paan stains and choked nallahs in areas like near Ravindra Bhavan also remain areas of concern.

Key Parameters Under Scanner

The ranking will be determined by a mix of on-ground assessment (10,500 points), citizen feedback, Visible Cleanliness (1,500), ODF/ODF++/Water Plus (1,000), and Garbage Free City Star Rating (1,000). Strict checking of market cleaning frequency, back lanes, slum surroundings, school premises, and water bodies is expected.

Officials are hopeful that sustained citizen cooperation and the ongoing drives will help Bhopal present a better picture compared to previous years.

The next few days will be decisive as the central team conducts surprise checks across the city. How effectively Bhopal manages visible waste, drain cleanliness, and overall aesthetics during the inspection will play a major role in its final national ranking.
