The festival of Bakri Eid was observed with traditional fervour and deep devotion across Rewa district on Friday, with thousands of faithful congregating at mosques and designated prayer grounds since early morning. The atmosphere, marked by a sense of collective worship, saw community members praying for the nation’s peace, progress, and prosperity.

Dressed in new or crisp attire, worshippers offered the special Eid namaz as the sun rose. The largest gatherings were reported at the Badi Dargah, Chhoti Dargah, and the historic Shahi Eidgah in Bichhia. Officials noted that the mood remained solemn yet celebratory, with people exchanging warm embraces (Idi Mubarak) following the prayers.

Special Prayers at Central Jail

In a notable gesture, Muslim inmates at the district’s central jail were also allowed to offer special congregational prayers. Sources within the prison administration confirmed that the inmates prayed for the country’s safety and well-being, reflecting the inclusive nature of the festival even within secured confines.

Fatiha Read at Graves

Following the namaz, many residents proceeded to local cemeteries (kabristan) to observe the ritual of reading Fatiha for departed family members. The morning hours were thus a blend of prayer for the living and silent remembrance of ancestors. By late morning, the focus shifted homewards, where the central ritual of Qurbani (sacrifice) was performed.

Sacrifice and Sharing

Religious leaders at various Eidgahs used the occasion to highlight the festival's deeper meaning, reminding everyone that Bakri Eid is ultimately about sacrifice, charity, and human connection. “It is not just about the animal, but about curbing our own negative impulses,” an elder explained. Following the sacrifice, families distributed a significant portion of the meat and cooked food among the needy and relatives, a practice observed widely in Muslim-dominated localities like Khutehi, Dhekhaha, and Turkan Nipaniya.

Security Blanket Over City

The district administration and police remained on high alert to ensure the festival passed off without incident. Heavy security forces, including additional patrols, were deployed at all major mosques, sensitive zones, and along key traffic routes. Municipal corporation teams were also tasked with ensuring cleanliness and drinking water supplies near prayer grounds. “We conducted continuous inspections across different zones to maintain law and order,” a senior official said, confirming that no untoward incident was reported.

Markets, Greetings, and Harmony

In the lead-up to the festival on Thursday night, local bazaars had witnessed a late rush, with shops selling clothes, vermicelli (sewai), and household items doing brisk business. The festive spirit was visible across communities, as political representatives and social organisations from various faiths extended warm Eid greetings to their Muslim neighbours. The day concluded on a note of harmony, with the city reporting a peaceful and unified observance of the festival.
