The controversy around YouTuber Manish Patel intensified in Rewa after police disclosed that he is named in six old criminal cases, including theft and robbery, while debate over his arrest continues online.

The controversy surrounding Rewa-based YouTuber Manish Patel widened further on Thursday after local police revealed details of multiple criminal cases previously registered against him in different police station areas of the city.

Patel had surrendered before the Civil Lines police on Wednesday in connection with a case linked to allegedly objectionable remarks made against the Brahmin community on social media. The issue quickly drew attention online, triggering sharp reactions both in support of and against the police action.

Surrender Sparks Debate

Soon after his surrender, several social media users began questioning the police action, with some claiming that the arrest was excessive and politically motivated. At the same time, others supported the police move and demanded strict action over content they described as inflammatory.

The matter remained widely discussed across local social media groups through Wednesday night and Thursday morning, particularly among youth and community-based online pages.

Police officials, however, maintained that the case was being handled according to law and that all aspects were under investigation.

Six Cases On Record

According to police records shared by officials, Manish Patel is named in six separate criminal cases registered across three police stations in Rewa district.

Officials said three cases were registered at University police station, one at Civil Lines police station and another at Saman police station. Apart from these, an additional case under the IT Act has also been registered against him at Civil Lines police station.

Police sources said Patel is also listed as a permanent warrant accused in a mobile snatching case.

Details From Police

Civil Lines police station in-charge Vijay Singh said one theft case against Patel was registered in 2016 under the Civil Lines police station limits.

He stated that during the same year, University police station registered three separate cases against him involving allegations related to theft, robbery and assault. Another theft case was also filed against him in the Saman police station area in 2016.

According to officials, records from the earlier cases are now being reviewed together alongside the latest social media-related complaint.

Social Media Under Lens

Police officials indicated that the investigation is no longer limited to the original objectionable post alone. Investigators are also examining whether other individuals or groups were involved in creating, circulating or amplifying the disputed content online.

Sources familiar with the matter said cyber teams are reviewing social media activity linked to the case, including accounts that reshared the content after it began circulating widely earlier this week.

The police have not yet disclosed whether additional notices or arrests may follow.

Political, Community Reactions

The case has also generated a broader discussion in Rewa over social media accountability and online speech. While some local groups argued that action against provocative content is necessary to maintain communal harmony, others raised concerns over selective policing and freedom of expression.

No major law-and-order issue was reported in the city till Thursday evening, though police presence remained alert around sensitive locations.

Officials said they are monitoring online activity closely to prevent any escalation.

Investigation Continues

Police officials said all pending and current cases connected to Manish Patel are being examined collectively as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities are expected to record additional statements in the coming days.

The Rewa police have appealed to people not to circulate unverified claims or edited material related to the Manish Patel controversy on social media platforms.
