The Rewa goat theft case has raised questions over the misuse of a government-run free mortuary vehicle after police recovered six stolen goats and arrested the driver involved.

Complaint Leads to Probe

A seemingly routine complaint of goat theft in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district has uncovered an unusual case involving the alleged misuse of a government-operated free mortuary vehicle. Police have arrested a driver accused of using the vehicle to transport six stolen goats from a village in the district.

The incident was reported from Pokhara village under Gudh police station limits. According to officials, local residents approached police after six goats were stolen by unidentified persons. A case was registered and an investigation was launched.

Suspicious Movements Tracked

During the initial stages of the probe, investigators came across information pointing to suspicious activity in the area around the time of the theft. Police then relied on technical evidence and local intelligence inputs to identify the suspected vehicle and those involved.

As the investigation progressed, officers discovered that a government-provided free mortuary vehicle had allegedly been used to execute the theft.

Fake Event Cover Alleged

Police said the vehicle had reached the area under the pretext of a fabricated event. Investigators believe the accused used this cover to enter the village without attracting attention.

According to the findings so far, the vehicle driver, identified as Rajesh Mishra, allegedly arrived in the village along with two associates. The trio is accused of loading the goats into the mortuary vehicle before leaving the area.

Officials said the use of a vehicle meant for public welfare added an unusual dimension to the case and prompted a wider inquiry into how it was being operated.

Driver Arrested, Goats Recovered

Acting on the evidence collected during the investigation, police arrested Rajesh Mishra and recovered all six stolen goats. The vehicle allegedly used in the theft has also been seized.

Authorities confirmed that the animals were found safe and have been recovered as part of the operation.

The two other suspects named in the case remain absconding. Police teams have been deployed to trace and apprehend them.

Questions Over Oversight

The incident has triggered concerns about oversight mechanisms surrounding government-supported services. The free mortuary vehicle scheme is intended to assist economically weaker families in transporting deceased persons without cost.

Its alleged use in a criminal activity has raised questions about monitoring and accountability. Officials are now examining whether the vehicle may have been involved in any other unauthorised or illegal activities in the past.

DSP Confirms Development

Deputy Superintendent of Police Udit Mishra confirmed that a complaint regarding the theft of six goats from Pokhara village had been received and investigated.

He said police established that a government mortuary vehicle was used in the commission of the crime. The accused driver has been arrested, the goats recovered and the vehicle seized. Efforts are continuing to locate the remaining two suspects.

Further Investigation Underway

Police officials said the investigation remains active and additional charges may be considered depending on the findings related to the vehicle's usage and the role of the other accused.
