A massive fire at the Mivan Steel plant in Raipur triggered panic as thick smoke was visible from nearly 10 km away. Authorities suspect a possible short circuit and have launched an investigation.

A major fire broke out at the Mivan Steel Limited plant in the Mandir Hasaud industrial area of Raipur on Tuesday morning, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky and triggering a large-scale firefighting operation that lasted nearly five hours.

The blaze, which was first noticed around 5:30 am, quickly spread through a significant section of the steel manufacturing facility. Residents and workers in nearby areas reported seeing towering flames and a dense plume of smoke from several kilometres away. According to initial estimates, the smoke could be seen from nearly 10 km from the site.

Fire Erupts At Dawn

Witnesses said smoke was first spotted emerging from the plant premises in the early hours of Tuesday. Within a short span, the situation escalated as flames engulfed a larger portion of the facility.

The incident caused concern across the industrial belt of Mandir Hasaud and adjoining localities, with many residents gathering at a distance to assess the situation. Videos of the fire and the massive smoke cloud circulated widely on social media through the morning.
