In a disturbing case from Rewa district, a young man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl over a period of time by threatening to kill her. The accused, identified as Sartaj Ansari, was booked under the POCSO Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following a complaint filed by the victim.

Police said the girl gathered courage and approached the Amhiya police station on June 1 to register her complaint. According to her statement, the accused, a resident of the same area, had been intimidating her for quite some time. He allegedly exploited her fear and committed the offence repeatedly.

Threat and Exploitation

Initial investigation reveals that the minor had been living under constant fear due to the threats. Sources familiar with the case said the accused used the threat of murder to silence her. The girl reportedly endured the ordeal for several weeks before finally confiding in her family, leading to the formal complaint.

Amhiya police registered the case promptly and launched a swift search operation. Within hours, teams conducted raids at possible hideouts and nabbed the accused. He was produced before the court the same day and remanded to judicial custody.

Sections Invoked

The police have invoked stringent provisions against the accused. A case has been registered under Section 64(2)(m) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 5 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Since the victim is a minor, the entire investigation is being conducted under POCSO guidelines, which mandate time-bound probe and sensitive handling.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Rewa, has directed officials to ensure a thorough investigation. “We are committed to fast-tracking such sensitive cases. Action is taken immediately on receipt of complaints involving women and children,” a senior officer said.

Community Reaction and Police Vigil

Local residents expressed shock over the incident, with many demanding strict punishment for the accused. Social workers in the area have called for greater awareness and support mechanisms for victims of sexual violence, especially minors.

This case comes amid ongoing efforts by Madhya Pradesh Police to maintain strict vigilance against crimes against women and children. In recent months, Rewa police have registered and acted upon several POCSO cases, sending a strong message that such offences will not be tolerated.
