The Bilaspur City Congress Committee has announced that it will gherao the Municipal Corporation's Vikas Bhavan office on Monday, June 8, to protest against the alleged failure to address drinking water problems in the city.

City Congress president Siddhanshu Mishra said residents across several wards are facing difficulties due to irregular supply, contaminated water and issues related to tankers and submersible pumps. He alleged that despite extensive publicity around governance camps, civic authorities have failed to provide relief to residents.

According to the party, Congress workers and leaders will gather at the Congress Bhavan at 4 pm before marching to Vikas Bhavan to stage a demonstration and submit their demands.

Allegations Against Civic Administration

Mishra accused the municipal administration of neglecting basic public services and claimed that the drinking water crisis has affected a large number of wards in Bilaspur.

He alleged that malfunctioning submersible pumps, foul-smelling water supplied through taps and the unavailability of water tankers have become common complaints among residents.

The Congress leader also accused the mayor of being indifferent to public grievances. However, no response from the Municipal Corporation or the mayor's office had been made available at the time of reporting.

Leaders Asked to Participate

The party has appealed to senior Congress leaders, present and former legislators, former MPs, former mayors, councillors, block presidents and office-bearers to participate in the protest.

According to party leaders, the demonstration aims to draw attention to what they describe as worsening water supply conditions in the city.

Public Utility Issue in Focus

Drinking water availability remains a key civic issue during the summer season, and complaints related to supply disruptions and water quality have been raised in several parts of the state. The planned protest is expected to bring the issue into focus at the local level.
