A Youth Congress leader in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district has alleged that unidentified persons attempted to kill him by trying to run him over with a speeding Bolero SUV in the Mangawan police station area. Police have registered the complaint and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Prakash Tiwari, President of the Mangawan Assembly Youth Congress, submitted a written complaint at Mangawan Police Station late on Wednesday night, claiming that the attack was premeditated and linked to his activism against alleged illegal activities in the region.

Leader Alleges Deliberate Attack

According to Tiwari, the incident occurred while he was returning home when a Bolero vehicle, allegedly fitted with black window films and without a registration number plate, approached him at high speed.

He alleged that the driver deliberately attempted to hit him with the intention of causing fatal injuries. Tiwari said he managed to escape in time, preventing what he described as a serious attack on his life.

He claimed he could not identify the occupants of the vehicle but believes the incident was planned.

Links Incident to Complaints Against Illegal Activities

In his complaint, Tiwari said he has been actively raising public issues in the constituency and has repeatedly lodged complaints against alleged illegal liquor trade, corruption, and other unlawful activities.

He further claimed that police had previously conducted raids and seized illegal liquor based on complaints submitted by him. According to Tiwari, those actions had led to disputes with certain individuals, which he believes may be connected to the alleged attack.

Supporters Accompany Leader to Police Station

Following the incident, Tiwari, accompanied by his supporters, reached Mangawan Police Station and demanded a fair investigation.

He urged police to identify those involved, take strict legal action against the accused, and ensure his personal security in view of the alleged threat to his life.

Police Begin Investigation

Mangawan Station House Officer Pushpendra Mishra confirmed that the police have received the complaint and initiated an inquiry into the matter.

He said the allegations are being examined from all angles and that further legal action will be taken based on evidence gathered during the investigation.

Police have not yet confirmed the identity of the alleged vehicle or its occupants. Officials said the facts surrounding the incident will become clear only after the investigation is completed.

 A grain trader was critically injured after being shot at close range by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district late Tuesday night. The attack, which took place outside the victim's residence in Mangawan, has prompted a high-level police investigation, with Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr. Gurukaran Singh personally supervising the probe.

According to police, the incident occurred in Ward No. 2 of Mangawan town, where grain trader Sandeep Kumar Gupta was sitting on a platform outside his house after dinner, following his usual routine.

Two men arrived on a motorcycle and reportedly asked Gupta for directions to Hanumanta village. As he began explaining the route, the pillion rider allegedly pulled out a pistol and fired at him from close range.

The bullet struck the upper part of Gupta's face, leaving him seriously injured. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Hearing the gunshot, local residents rushed out of their homes while the accused escaped before they could be intercepted.

Family members and neighbours shifted the injured trader to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors are closely monitoring his condition.

Manikwar Assault Leaves Three Injured, Cash and Mobiles Looted

Tension gripped the Manikwar Number-2 village under Mangawan police station limits in Rewa district after a violent clash erupted late Sunday night. A group of miscreants allegedly assaulted locals demanding money for liquor, leaving three people injured, including a JCB operator whose leg was fractured in the attack. The incident also involved vandalism of vehicles and looting of cash and mobile phones.

According to initial reports, the trouble began when a few youths reached the area and started asking people for money to buy alcohol. When the locals refused, an argument broke out that quickly turned ugly. The accused reportedly used sticks and other weapons to attack the victims, turning the spot into a scene of chaos within minutes.

Eyewitnesses said the assailants targeted a JCB machine and a Bolero vehicle parked nearby. They smashed the windscreens and windows of both vehicles, causing significant damage. The attack took place in broad view of the locality, sending shockwaves through the otherwise quiet rural pocket.

 Three Seriously Hurt in Late-Night Assault

The injured individuals have been identified as Pawan Patel, Puneet Patel, and Ankit Patel. Among them, the JCB operator suffered the most severe injuries, with his leg reportedly broken during the brutal assault. Local residents and family members rushed the victims to a nearby hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

One of the victims later told police that the group first demanded cash and, upon refusal, launched the coordinated attack. In the melee, the miscreants allegedly snatched around ₹70,000 to ₹80,000 in cash and two mobile phones before fleeing the scene.

 Vehicles Vandalised, Fear Spreads in Village

The damaged JCB and Bolero stood as stark reminders of the violence even hours after the incident. Broken glass littered the ground at the site, which remained under police watch on Monday morning. Residents expressed fear and outrage, with many saying such brazen acts in broad daylight — or rather late evening — have become disturbingly common.

“People are scared. If they can do this so openly just for money to drink, what is safe anymore?” said a local who did not wish to be named.

Mangawan police reached the spot soon after receiving information. Officers inspected the area, recorded statements of the injured, and registered a formal complaint. A case has been registered against unidentified persons, and teams have been formed to track down the culprits.
