The issue has surfaced at a time when many consumers continue to report difficulties in obtaining timely LPG refills. According to findings from the ground, a significant number of food vendors operating in public food zones are relying on domestic cylinders instead of commercial LPG connections mandated for business use.

Ujjwala Cylinders Also Found

During the inspection, cylinders distributed under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana were also reportedly seen in use at commercial establishments. The scheme is intended to provide clean cooking fuel to economically weaker households, and its cylinders are meant strictly for domestic purposes.

The presence of such cylinders at business outlets has sparked concerns about possible diversion of subsidised resources meant for household consumption.

MP-17 Chowpaty Draws Attention

One of the most notable findings emerged from the city's prominent MP-17 chowpaty, located behind Sirmaur Square. Nearly all food stalls operating at the location were found using domestic LPG cylinders.

Observers reported that commercial LPG cylinders were largely absent from the site, despite regulations requiring restaurants, eateries, tea stalls, fast-food centres and similar establishments to use commercial gas connections.

Responding to the matter, Rewa SDM Anurag Tiwari said that the commercial use of domestic LPG cylinders is against the rules. He stated that if complaints have been received, the matter will be examined through the concerned departments.

According to the official, action will be taken in accordance with regulations wherever illegal commercial use of domestic LPG cylinders is found during verification.
