Sukma Minor Sexual Assault Case: Two Youths Arrested After 15-Year-Old Found Pregnant in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma District

A 15-year-old girl in Chhattisgarh’s tribal-dominated Sukma district was repeatedly assaulted by two men who befriended her on social media, local police confirmed on Saturday. The matter came to light after the minor, a class 8 dropout, complained of severe abdominal pain and medical examinations revealed she was two months pregnant.

Following a formal complaint filed by the victim's family, the police launched a swift operation and arrested both the accused from separate locations. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community in the Gadiras police station jurisdiction, where the victim resides.

Medical Examination Exposes Crime

The ordeal came to light earlier this month when the teenager experienced sudden health complications. Her parents rushed her to a local government hospital, where routine diagnostic tests confirmed the pregnancy.

Upon sustained questioning by anxious family members, the girl narrated her ordeal, naming two individuals who had established physical relations with her at different times under the pretext of marriage. The family approached the Gadiras police station on June 3, leading to an immediate registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Social Media Exploitation Under Investigation

Initial police investigations revealed that the minor had connected with both the accused roughly a year ago through Instagram. Operating independently of each other, both men targeted the girl, eventually luring her into separate relationships.

"The two accused were not known to each other," a source close to the investigation stated. "They leveraged social media platforms to entrap the minor and exploited her separately over several months. Because both individuals had physical contact with the victim during the same period, medical experts are currently working to determine paternity."

Swift Police Crackdown in Gadiras

Following the registration of the case, the Sukma police formed special teams as both suspects attempted to flee the area to evade arrest. Tracking surveillance and local intelligence, law enforcement personnel managed to corner the duo.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Madkam Hinga, alias Madkam Arjun, a resident of Jaggavaram village under the Bhejji police jurisdiction, and Rahul Sodi, alias Rupesh Sodi, hailing from Sukma town. Both individuals are reportedly engaged in local agricultural work.

Official Statements and Ongoing Probe

Sukma Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran Chavan confirmed the arrests and stated that law enforcement acted immediately given the sensitive nature of the crime against a minor.

"The accused had gone into hiding shortly after the FIR was registered on June 3. However, through coordinated efforts, both individuals were apprehended on June 6 and have since been remanded to judicial custody," SP Chavan said. The district police chief added that the victim is currently undergoing comprehensive medical evaluations and counseling, while a detailed chargesheet is being prepared to ensure a speedy trial.

The incident highlights growing concerns over the safety of minors in the region, particularly regarding online grooming and exploitation.
