Chhattisgarh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Kiran Singh Deo sustained serious injuries after the SUV he was travelling in rammed into a stationary truck on National Highway-44 in Uttar Pradesh's Lalitpur district on Wednesday afternoon. The senior BJP leader, who was returning to Chhattisgarh with his family after a pilgrimage to Madhya Pradesh, suffered a hip fracture and internal injuries but is reported to be out of danger.

According to officials, the accident occurred near Tekri village in Talbehat, around 44 kilometres from the Lalitpur district headquarters. Deo's wife Reena Singh Deo and daughter Ayushi, who were travelling with him, escaped unharmed. The vehicle's driver, personal security officer (PSO) and personal assistant suffered only minor injuries.

Accident Occurred While Avoiding Another Vehicle

Eyewitnesses said the accident took place at around 3:30 pm when a speeding vehicle approaching from the opposite direction allegedly made a sudden turn. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the driver of Kiran Singh Deo's Toyota Innova reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which then crashed into the rear of a truck parked along the highway.

The impact severely damaged the front portion of the SUV, crushing it up to the engine compartment. Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing the loud crash and informed the police.

Police Rescue Injured BJP Leader

Police personnel from Talbehat Police Station, assisted by local residents, rescued the injured occupants from the mangled vehicle and shifted them to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Talbehat.

Following initial medical examination, doctors referred Kiran Singh Deo to the Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi for specialised treatment. Senior administrative and police officials, including Jhansi District Magistrate Gaurang Rathi and Senior Superintendent of Police BBGTS Murthy, reached the hospital to monitor the situation. BJP leaders and party workers also gathered at the medical facility.

Doctors Confirm Hip Fracture

Doctors treating the BJP state president said there were no major external injuries, but medical investigations revealed internal trauma and a fracture of the hip.

Hospital authorities said CT scans and other diagnostic tests were conducted immediately after admission. A multidisciplinary team comprising specialists from the departments of medicine, orthopaedics, neurosurgery and cardiology has been assigned to his treatment.

Doctors also noted elevated blood sugar levels and initiated appropriate medication along with pain management. Officials indicated that Deo could be airlifted to Chhattisgarh for further treatment once his condition stabilises.

Pilgrimage Before the Mishap

According to police, Kiran Singh Deo had been on a religious tour with his family. The group had visited Bageshwar Dham, Datia's Maa Pitambara Temple, Orchha's Raja Ram Temple, and the Siddheshwar Temple on the banks of the Narmada before beginning their return journey to Raipur.

The accident occurred while the convoy was passing through Lalitpur district. Officials confirmed that the other vehicles travelling with the convoy were not involved in the crash and reached their destinations safely.

Medical Response Under Scrutiny

During treatment at the Jhansi Medical College, reports indicated that there was a brief delay in shifting Kiran Singh Deo for a CT scan because an ambulance was not immediately available.

Hospital staff reportedly had to wait for nearly ten minutes before an ambulance arrived. The movement of the ambulance was further delayed due to vehicles parked near the hospital entrance, forcing medical personnel to push the stretcher manually to the waiting vehicle.

District officials, however, maintained that the BJP leader remained stable throughout the treatment process and continued to receive medical attention from specialist doctors.

Condition Stable, Shift to Higher Centre Likely

Jhansi District Magistrate Gaurang Rathi said doctors are in constant touch with specialists from Chhattisgarh and New Delhi regarding the treatment plan.

He confirmed that Kiran Singh Deo's condition is stable and that he is expected to be shifted to a higher medical centre for advanced treatment after further evaluation.

The incident has drawn concern within the BJP, with party leaders across Chhattisgarh wishing the state president a speedy recovery while authorities continue to monitor his health.

The event, held at Shaheed Smarak Bhavan in the state capital, drew a large turnout of AAP office-bearers and grassroots workers from across Chhattisgarh.

"Garbad Engine" Jibe at BJP

Singh came out swinging against both the state and central governments. Dismissing the BJP's "double engine government" narrative, he said Chhattisgarh is instead running on a "garbad engine" — a broken, dysfunctional setup that has failed ordinary citizens. He accused the ruling dispensation of allowing the state's mineral wealth to be plundered while residents continue to suffer from inflation, unemployment, and a crumbling healthcare system.

Forests and natural resources, he alleged, are being handed over to big industrialists, leaving local communities with little to show for the state's rich endowments.

Schools Shut, Youth Adrift

On education, Singh alleged that the BJP government has shut thousands of schools, directly harming the prospects of children from poorer families. He contrasted this with AAP's record in Delhi, pointing to the transformation of government schools and the Mohalla Clinic model as examples of what political will can achieve. "Ten years of Arvind Kejriwal's work in Delhi has shown what governance for the people actually looks like," he said, urging workers to carry that message to every village and booth in the state.

He pressed cadres to focus on expanding the organisation at the grassroots level, calling booth-level strengthening critical ahead of future elections.

Congress Not Spared

Singh's attack was not limited to the BJP. He argued that voters in Chhattisgarh have grown disillusioned with both established parties. "The public is looking for a third option," he said, positioning AAP as that alternative. The party, he indicated, will step up its organisational drive across the state in the months ahead.

Solidarity With D.Ed Candidates

After the conference, Singh drove to a protest site near Mana-Tuta where D.Ed degree holders have been agitating for a considerable period, demanding regularisation of their jobs or recruitment. He spent time listening to their grievances and pledged his support.

Acknowledging that the candidates have persisted through harsh weather conditions, Singh said the state government cannot afford to keep ignoring their demands. He advised the protesters to form a delegation of five to ten members to formally engage with the government and added that he would raise their issue in Parliament if necessary.

The workers' conference was also attended by Chhattisgarh in-charge Mukesh Ahlawat, co-in-charges Saurabh Jha and Samar Kumar, acting state president Uttam Jaiswal, along with Abhishek Mishra, Devalal Nareti, state general secretary Wadood Alam, and chief spokesperson Suraj Upadhyay, among others.

The gathering signals a renewed push by AAP to build serious electoral infrastructure in Chhattisgarh, a state where the party has yet to make a significant dent but is clearly investing in long-term presence.
