TS Singh Deo said the Congress high command will take a call on the party’s state president, while also questioning the Chhattisgarh government’s budget projections during his Janjgir-Champa visit.

Visit to Janjgir-Champa

Former Chhattisgarh deputy chief minister TS Singh Deo on Tuesday visited Janjgir-Champa district, where he held a series of meetings with Congress leaders and party workers from the Akaltara and Janjgir-Champa Assembly constituencies. The visit focused on organisational matters, local political issues and coordination within the party ahead of future political activities.

During the programme, Singh Deo interacted with legislators, former legislators, district presidents and former district presidents. Discussions reportedly centred on strengthening the party structure and gathering feedback from local leaders on issues affecting the region.

State President Speculation

Responding to questions regarding the possibility of changes in the Chhattisgarh Congress leadership, Singh Deo said no formal organisational election process has begun at present. He noted that various names continue to surface in media reports, but maintained that the decision on the state Congress president ultimately rests with the party’s central leadership.

According to Singh Deo, speculation in political circles should not be mistaken for an official process. He indicated that any decision regarding the leadership of the state unit would be taken by the Congress high command at the appropriate time.

Questions Over Budget

The senior Congress leader also used the occasion to target the BJP-led state government over its financial planning. He alleged that the government had presented a budget exceeding its actual revenue capacity, raising concerns about the sustainability of expenditure commitments.

Singh Deo argued that the effects of such financial decisions were becoming visible in sectors linked to basic public services. He suggested that budgetary announcements should be aligned more closely with the state’s real income and fiscal capabilities.

Inflation Concerns Raised

Referring to welfare initiatives, Singh Deo said the government has highlighted schemes such as the Mahtari Vandan Yojana, which provides financial assistance to women. However, he claimed that rising inflation has offset many of the benefits being promoted through welfare programmes.

He argued that increasing prices of essential goods continue to place pressure on households and affect the purchasing power of ordinary citizens. The Congress leader said economic relief measures should be assessed alongside broader cost-of-living challenges faced by families.

BJP Popularity Debate

Singh Deo also commented on claims regarding the BJP’s popularity in the state. He said voters are capable of assessing the ground reality and making their own judgments about the performance of governments and political parties.

His remarks came in response to recent political statements made by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma. While reacting to those comments, Singh Deo said every political party works through its leaders and grassroots workers to expand and strengthen its organisation.

Role of Party Workers

Emphasising the importance of cadre-based politics, Singh Deo said it is natural for any political organisation to rely on committed workers and leaders. He rejected suggestions that there was anything unusual about parties mobilising their members for organisational work.

According to him, dedicated workers play a crucial role in spreading a party’s ideology and maintaining its presence at the grassroots level. He added that the strength of any political party depends significantly on the commitment and participation of its workers.

Focus on Organisation

The Janjgir-Champa visit comes at a time when political discussions around leadership and organisational restructuring continue within the Chhattisgarh Congress. While Singh Deo avoided commenting on specific names for the state president’s post, he reiterated that the final decision would be made by the party leadership at the national level.

For now, the Congress appears focused on organisational outreach and strengthening its network ahead of future political challenges in the state.
