Tension flared in Chhattisgarh's capital on Wednesday after members of the Bajrang Dal staged a protest over an alleged objectionable social media post targeting Goddess Sita and Hindu saints. The organisation demanded strict legal action against the person behind the post, prompting police to register an FIR and initiate an investigation.

The protest took place at the Civil Lines police station, where Bajrang Dal activists raised slogans and submitted a memorandum seeking immediate action against the accused.

Protest Over Alleged Offensive Post

According to Bajrang Dal leaders, an Instagram account identified as "_wasim_ahmed_1" allegedly shared content containing objectionable remarks about Goddess Sita and Hindu religious figures. The organisation claimed that the account belongs to a resident of the Raja Talab area in Raipur.

Police, however, said they are yet to verify whether the account is actually operated by the individual named in the complaint.

Activists alleged that the post hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community and demanded that criminal proceedings be initiated without delay.

Police Register FIR

Following the complaint, Civil Lines police registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.

Officials said digital evidence, including the Instagram account, the disputed post and related online activity, is being examined to establish the identity of the account holder and determine whether any offences under relevant provisions of law have been committed.

Police have not yet confirmed the authenticity of the social media account or the allegations against the person named by the complainants.

Warning of Larger Agitation

During the protest, Bajrang Dal workers warned that if prompt action was not taken, the organisation would intensify its agitation.

Chhattisgarh Bajrang Dal state co-convenor Vijendra Verma alleged that repeated attempts were being made to target Hindu beliefs through social media platforms. He urged authorities to take strict legal action against those responsible.

The organisation has also sought a detailed investigation into the origin of the post and the identity of the person operating the account.

Investigation Underway

Police said the case remains under investigation and that technical verification of the digital evidence is in progress. Authorities will examine the social media account, its activity, and other electronic records before taking further legal action.

Officials have appealed to the public not to circulate unverified content related to the case while the investigation is ongoing.

The incident comes amid growing scrutiny of objectionable content shared on social media platforms and renewed calls for stronger action against posts that allegedly incite communal or religious tensions.

Khan and Spratt married on July 5 in a registered ceremony under the Special Marriage Act, followed by a small, private celebration at the actor's Bandra home attended by around 150 close family members and friends. The couple had been together for roughly two years after reconnecting following a 25-year gap in contact, and Khan had spoken openly in the months prior about being "already married in his heart" to Spratt regardless of whether they formalised it.

The backlash arrived quickly and from more than one direction. An Ayodhya-based Hindu religious leader announced a reward of ₹5 crore for killing Khan, according to reports, in objection to the marriage. Days later, Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, Shahi Chief Mufti of the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta, issued a fatwa from the opposite direction, arguing under his interpretation of Sharia that a Muslim man cannot marry a non-Muslim woman unless she converts to Islam. He called the marriage sinful and said Khan should repent, adding that decisions by prominent Muslims like this one risked creating confusion about Islamic teachings. Khan and Spratt have not publicly responded to either the bounty or the fatwa.

Separately, members of the Bajrang Dal in Bihar's Forbesganj area staged a protest against the marriage, burning a large photograph of Khan and raising slogans against him. Local leader Manoj Soni accused the actor of "love jihad," alleging a pattern of Khan marrying Hindu women as part of a deliberate effort to weaken Hindu society, and warned of further action if Khan didn't stop.

Khan has been married twice before: to Reena Dutta from 1986 to 2002, with whom he shares children Junaid and Ira, and to filmmaker Kiran Rao from 2005 to 2021, with whom he shares son Azad. Spratt, a Bengaluru-based stylist and entrepreneur, has a six-year-old son from a previous relationship who was also present at the July 5 celebration alongside Khan's three children.

Neither Khan's team nor Mumbai Police have issued a public statement addressing the specific threats reported so far. Given the range and seriousness of what's already surfaced — a monetary bounty on the actor's life being the most serious among them — any official security response, if one comes, would be worth following closely rather than treating this purely as entertainment-page controversy.

A minor disagreement over children making a social media reel near a sacred Tulsi plant escalated into a violent clash between two families in Kathadih BSUP Colony, leaving two women injured. The incident, which occurred on Sunday evening, took a fresh turn on Wednesday when Bajrang Dal workers staged a protest by bringing a pig into the locality, heightening communal tensions in the area.

According to police, the trouble began around 8:30 pm on Sunday in Block No. 18 when children from a neighbouring family started filming a reel close to a Tulsi pot placed in the balcony of Parmila Sen’s house for worship. The children allegedly shook the plant pot, prompting Sen to intervene and request them to show respect for the sacred basil plant.

Argument Turns Ugly

What started as a verbal exchange quickly spiralled out of control. Sen alleged that soon after, Firdos Begum and her sister Saltanat Begum came out of their house and confronted her. The dispute turned physical, with Saltanat Begum allegedly assaulting Sen with a stick. Firdos Begum and Mehtab Khan also joined in, using blows and abuses, local police sources said.

The commotion drew neighbours to the spot. Pinky George, who tried to intervene and pacify the situation, was also attacked. She sustained injuries on her head and nose after being struck with a stick, according to the complaint filed by Parmila Sen at the Mujgahan police station.

Injuries and Police Action

Both injured women received medical attention for head injuries. Police registered a case against three individuals — Saltanat Begum, Firdos Begum, and Mehtab Khan — based on Sen’s complaint. Initial investigation indicates the clash stemmed from a seemingly trivial issue involving children and cultural sensitivities around the Tulsi plant, which holds religious significance for many Hindu households.

Officials reached the spot promptly on Sunday night and brought the immediate situation under control. No major law and order breakdown was reported at the time.

Bajrang Dal Protest Sparks Fresh Tension

The matter, however, refused to die down. On Wednesday night, Bajrang Dal activists reached the colony carrying a pig in protest against the alleged attack on the Tulsi plant and the residents. Their arrival created panic and tension in the mixed locality. The activists also performed recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa at the site.

Mujgahan police rushed to the area upon receiving information and managed to disperse the protesters, restoring calm. Authorities said they are monitoring the situation to prevent any further flare-up.

Background of the Locality

Kathadih BSUP Colony under the Mujgahan police station limits is a residential area with families from diverse communities living in close proximity. Such neighbourhoods often witness minor frictions that can quickly assume larger proportions when religious or cultural sentiments are involved. Similar incidents of localised disputes turning contentious have been reported in parts of Chhattisgarh in recent times, including a recent clash in Bhilai over a children’s quarrel that escalated into stone pelting.

Local residents expressed concern over the growing intolerance for minor issues. Many pointed out that social media trends and reel-making among youngsters sometimes overlook traditional sensitivities in shared living spaces.

Police Investigation Underway

Senior police officers confirmed that the case is being investigated thoroughly. “We have registered the FIR and appropriate action will be taken as per law,” a police official said. Both sides are being questioned to ascertain the exact sequence of events. Additional forces have been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure.

The incident has once again highlighted the delicate balance required in multi-community residential areas, where small misunderstandings can snowball if not addressed with care and mutual respect. Authorities have appealed to residents to maintain peace and cooperate with the investigation.

As the probe continues, residents hope the matter is resolved amicably without further escalation. Police have urged both parties to exercise restraint while legal proceedings move forward.
