According to reports, Vidyasagar had ordered the perfume online some time ago. On Monday, January 5, he reportedly requested the perfume from his younger brother. After applying it, he consumed it in his room and subsequently hanged himself. Family members found him shortly afterward and rushed him to Katghora Government Hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, he was referred to the District Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead during treatment. Authorities recovered an empty bottle of the perfume at the scene.

Bajrang Singh Uike, Vidyasagar’s elder brother, said the deceased was generally calm and composed, occasionally consuming alcohol. He added that Vidyasagar had been increasingly anxious over the past few days, reportedly due to fears of black magic and “supernatural interference,” which may have contributed to his decision to end his life.

The family informed Katghora police, and the case is being investigated. District Hospital Outpost In-Charge Suresh Mani Sonwani confirmed that statements of family members have been recorded, and further documentation has been forwarded to the relevant police station for investigation.

Mental health experts caution against attributing such actions to superstition. Dr. Dinesh Mishra, a psychiatrist, said, “Superstitions and fear of black magic often exacerbate mental stress. While such beliefs are common in some communities, they cannot directly cause death. Mental health issues must be recognized and addressed early.” Experts highlight the importance of counseling, family support, and awareness to prevent similar incidents.
