A 38-year-old resident of Kushaha village jumped into the deep waters of the Beehar river to rescue his friend, but vanished shortly after securing his safety.

Tragic turn during afternoon swim

A casual outing turned into a tragedy on Thursday afternoon when a 38-year-old man went missing after saving his friend from drowning in the Beehar river in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district. The incident took place when a group of four friends had gone to the river near Kushaha village to take a bath. According to local sources, the current was unexpectedly strong, and one of the men drifted into a deep stretch, triggering panic among the group.

Quick rescue but sudden disappearance

Initial reports indicate that upon seeing his companion struggling for life, Anupam Mishra, a resident of Kushaha, immediately dove into the deep waters. Mishra managed to push his drowning friend toward the shallower banks, ensuring his safety. However, the physical exertion and the river's underlying current reportedly overwhelmed Mishra, who slipped into a deep vortex and disappeared from view before his friends could react.

Search operation launched by administration

Sagara police station authorities were alerted by the locals shortly after the incident. A team of local police officials, administrative staff, and deep-dive experts reached the spot to initiate a rescue operation. Sagara police confirmed that local divers have been deployed to search the deep stretches of the Beehar river, though heavy silt and underwater currents are complicating the search.

Panic grips Kushaha village

As news of the accident spread, a large crowd of anxious villagers gathered along the banks of the Beehar river. Family members of Anupam Mishra have been camping near the site, holding onto hope as rescue operations continue into the late hours. "He didn't think twice before jumping in to save his friend," a local villager mentioned, pointing out that Mishra was known for his helpful nature in the neighborhood.

No trace found till evening

Despite hours of intense search by the rescue teams and local swimmers, Anupam Mishra remained untraceable till the filing of this report. Local authorities mentioned that the search perimeter is being widened downstream. The administration has also requested additional support from regional disaster response teams if the local divers cannot locate the individual before dusk.

Administration issues fresh safety advisory

Following the incident, the Rewa district administration issued a strict advisory to the public regarding water bodies. Officials have urged citizens, especially youths, to completely avoid swimming or venturing into rivers and streams during the monsoon season when water levels fluctuate unpredictably. Security personnel may be deployed at known vulnerable spots along the Beehar river to prevent similar mishaps.
