The death of Indian-origin man Gurbhej Singh in West London has prompted a murder investigation, with police arresting seven people as inquiries continue.

An Indian-origin man was stabbed to death in West London, prompting a major police investigation and a series of arrests as authorities continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Gurbhej Singh, who was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services responded to reports of a stabbing in Southall, a suburb in the London Borough of Ealing. The incident occurred shortly after midnight and has sent shockwaves through the local community.

Fatal Attack in Southall

According to the Metropolitan Police, officers were called by the London Ambulance Service on Wednesday following reports of a stabbing near the junction of North Road and Dormers Well Lane in Southall.

When officers and paramedics arrived, they found two injured men. Gurbhej Singh had suffered serious injuries and was declared dead at the scene despite emergency efforts. A second man, believed to be in his 30s, was also injured during the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been discharged.

Investigators believe Singh was assaulted outside a shop in the area at around 12:30 am. The exact sequence of events leading up to the attack remains under investigation.

Seven Arrested

Police launched a homicide investigation soon after the incident. Seven individuals were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

However, authorities later confirmed that six of those arrested had been released without further action. The seventh individual has been bailed and is expected to return to police at a later date while inquiries continue.

Detectives have not yet disclosed further details about the suspects or a possible motive behind the attack.

Appeal for Witnesses

Investigators are urging members of the public to assist with the case by sharing any information, dashcam recordings or CCTV footage that may help establish what happened.

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell of the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime Command said homicide detectives remain focused on uncovering the circumstances surrounding Singh's death.

Police believe there may be witnesses who were in the area at the time but have not yet spoken to investigators. Officers are particularly interested in footage from businesses, homes and vehicles near the location of the attack.

Community Impact

Southall is home to one of the largest South Asian communities in the United Kingdom, including a significant population of people of Indian origin. News of the fatal stabbing has drawn concern among residents and members of the wider Indian diaspora.

While knife-related violence remains a major issue in parts of London, police have cautioned against speculation as investigations continue.

Previous Cases Involving Indian-Origin Victims

The incident has also renewed attention on several high-profile cases involving Indian-origin victims in London over recent years.

In June 2023, Hyderabad-born master's graduate Tejaswini Kontham was fatally stabbed in Wembley, North London. A few months later, in October 2023, 19-year-old Mehak Sharma, who had recently moved to the UK after marriage, was killed in Croydon.

Earlier cases include the fatal stabbing of Karamjeet Singh Simpson in Ilford in 2019 and the death of Sukhwinder Singh in Southall in 2010.

Investigation Continues

Authorities have informed Singh's family and specialist officers are providing support. Forensic examinations and witness interviews are ongoing as detectives work to establish the full circumstances of the attack.

The Metropolitan Police have said the investigation remains active and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. The case is expected to remain under close scrutiny in the coming days as officers continue gathering evidence related to Gurbhej Singh's death.
