Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has announced drinking water schemes worth ₹4,800 crore and said cases against farmers and teachers will be withdrawn as part of a series of measures aimed at addressing public and sectoral concerns.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has announced drinking water projects worth ₹4,800 crore along with the withdrawal of cases registered against farmers and teachers.

The announcements were made as part of a series of decisions by the Tamil Nadu government, with the drinking water projects aimed at strengthening water supply infrastructure across the state.

The government has also announced the withdrawal of cases against farmers and teachers, signalling an effort to address long-standing grievances involving the two groups.

₹4,800 crore for drinking water schemes

The proposed ₹4,800-crore drinking water schemes are expected to focus on improving access to drinking water and strengthening related infrastructure.

Water supply remains a major governance issue in several parts of Tamil Nadu, particularly during periods of water stress. The new investment is expected to support projects designed to improve the availability and distribution of drinking water.

Cases against farmers, teachers to be withdrawn

Alongside the water projects, the Chief Minister announced the withdrawal of cases against farmers and teachers.

The decision is significant as both groups have been involved in protests and negotiations with governments over various demands in recent years.

The move is being positioned as part of the government's broader approach to resolving issues through administrative and political intervention rather than allowing cases related to protests to continue.

The government is expected to provide further details on the cases covered by the decision and the implementation of the withdrawal.

Focus on public welfare and grievances

The announcements bring together two major areas of governance—basic infrastructure and resolution of stakeholder grievances.

The ₹4,800-crore water programme represents a significant proposed public investment, while the withdrawal of cases against farmers and teachers could provide relief to individuals facing legal proceedings linked to earlier protests.

Further details regarding the individual drinking water projects, funding arrangements and the specific cases eligible for withdrawal will determine the broader impact of the announcements

The visit is being seen as part of the state government's broader push to strengthen public services and accelerate development works across districts ahead of the next phase of infrastructure expansion in Uttar Pradesh.

According to official information, the Chief Minister will begin his programme in Pratapgarh, where projects valued at over ₹384 crore will be launched in the Pratapgarh and Vishwanathganj Assembly constituencies. A total of 111 projects are included in this package.

These projects cover a range of sectors such as road connectivity, healthcare facilities, educational infrastructure, rural development and drinking water schemes. Officials said the initiatives are expected to improve public services and create better access to essential facilities in urban as well as rural areas.

Later in the day, Adityanath will travel to Sultanpur, where he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for 99 projects worth more than ₹819 crore in the Sultanpur and Isauli Assembly segments.

The projects are aimed at strengthening local infrastructure, expanding development works and improving the delivery of government welfare programmes. State authorities believe the investments will contribute to long-term economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents in the region.

One of the major highlights of the Chief Minister’s visit is the inauguration of a government medical college and several healthcare-related initiatives. The state government has placed significant emphasis on expanding medical infrastructure in recent years, particularly in districts that previously lacked advanced healthcare facilities.

In a message posted on social media platform X, Adityanath said the visit would mark the beginning of several new initiatives related to health, development and public welfare in Pratapgarh and Sultanpur. He noted that multiple important projects, including a government medical college, would be dedicated to the public during the programme.

Apart from infrastructure projects, the Chief Minister is also expected to distribute benefits under various welfare schemes. Beneficiaries will receive assistance in the form of cheques, Ayushman cards, sewing machines, approval letters, house keys, certificates and recognition awards under different government programmes.

Officials said the event has been designed not only as an inauguration ceremony but also as an opportunity to directly connect welfare benefits with eligible citizens. Such outreach programmes have become a regular feature of government events in Uttar Pradesh, particularly in districts undergoing major development works.

The state government has linked these projects to its broader vision of a “Viksit Uttar Pradesh” or Developed Uttar Pradesh. According to officials, investments in healthcare, roads, education and basic infrastructure are expected to strengthen economic activity and improve public service delivery across the state.

Meanwhile, extensive security and traffic arrangements have been put in place for the Chief Minister’s visit. The Pratapgarh district administration has announced traffic diversions from 6 am to 10 pm and imposed restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles within city limits.

Authorities have advised commuters to use alternative routes and follow traffic advisories issued by the administration to avoid inconvenience during the high-profile visit.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav is scheduled to visit Ujjain district on Wednesday, where he will inaugurate the Samakota Barrage, a major irrigation project constructed at a cost of ₹188.42 crore. Located on the Chhoti Kalisindh River in Jharada tehsil, the project is expected to provide irrigation benefits to thousands of farming families and strengthen agricultural infrastructure in the region.

According to officials, the barrage has been designed to improve water availability for agriculture and support sustainable farming practices. The project is expected to benefit more than 11,000 farmer families across 18 villages by ensuring a reliable irrigation network for a large area of cultivable land.

The inauguration forms part of a broader development initiative under which the Chief Minister will dedicate public infrastructure projects worth more than ₹207 crore to the people of the district.

Major Boost for Irrigation

The Samakota Barrage has a water storage capacity of 17.57 million cubic metres and is designed to irrigate approximately 7,236 hectares of agricultural land through a pipeline-based distribution system.

Officials said the project will directly benefit farmers in villages including Nalkheda, Panodia, Neemkheda, Ghattiyajassa, Melakhedi, Khoriyapadma, Kherla, Lasudiyanahata, Nagpura, Chhajjukhedi, Delakhedi, Dungarkhedi, Khedamadda, Kason, Mahidpuriya, Somchidi, and Jharada.

Agriculture experts believe improved irrigation infrastructure can help increase crop productivity, reduce dependence on erratic rainfall, and enhance rural livelihoods in the region.

Additional Development Projects

During the visit, the Chief Minister will also inaugurate several public infrastructure projects valued at more than ₹19 crore. These projects cover sectors such as education, healthcare, and power distribution.

Among the key initiatives are a college building constructed by the Higher Education Department at a cost of ₹4.35 crore and new girls' school buildings in Semalia, Mahidpur Road, and Kundikheda under the School Education Department.

The development package also includes a 33/11 KV power substation at Mochikheda, aimed at improving electricity supply in the area. In addition, 13 sub-health centre buildings in the Jharada region will be inaugurated to strengthen healthcare services in rural communities.

Focus on Rural Development

Officials stated that the projects reflect the state's focus on improving infrastructure in rural and semi-urban areas. Investments in irrigation, education, healthcare, and energy are expected to contribute to long-term socio-economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents.

The irrigation project, in particular, is being viewed as a significant step toward enhancing agricultural resilience in the region, where farming remains a primary source of income for a large section of the population.
