Three men have been arrested in Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham district for allegedly printing ₹12.50 lakh in counterfeit currency using a colour printer to repay a loan. Police said the accused had rented a room near the New Bus Stand, where they allegedly scanned genuine notes, printed copies and manually cut them before attempting to circulate them.

The alleged fraud came to light when the accused handed over ₹4.50 lakh in counterfeit ₹500 notes to Dinesh Kumar Yadav as repayment of a loan. Dinesh reportedly noticed that several notes were unevenly cut and differed in size. The paper and colour quality also appeared inferior, prompting him to approach the police.

The case is from the Pondi police outpost area under Bodla police station. Police arrested the three accused on Tuesday and recovered counterfeit currency along with equipment and other items.

Loan Repayment Exposes Fake Notes

According to police, Dinesh Kumar Yadav, a resident of Kamarakhol village, had lent ₹3.75 lakh to Ghuruwa Ram in April 2026. An agreement was also reportedly signed between the two.

When Dinesh later demanded repayment, Ghuruwa Ram allegedly assured him that the money would be returned.

On the night of August 9, Ghuruwa Ram reportedly told Dinesh that the money would be sent through Satish Kumar. Dinesh was then called to an area near a liquor shop in Pondi village.

Dinesh reached the spot at around 9 pm with his acquaintance Kailash Chandravanshi. Satish Kumar and another man allegedly arrived carrying a black bag and handed over the money.

₹4.50 Lakh in Fake ₹500 Notes

Dinesh reportedly checked the cash and became suspicious. The bag contained ₹4.50 lakh in ₹500-denomination notesthat were allegedly counterfeit.

Police said the notes were not uniformly sized and had poor cutting quality. Their paper and colour also appeared different from genuine currency.

Dinesh subsequently filed a complaint at the Pondi police outpost on August 10.

Police Interrogation Reveals Alleged Operation

Police detained Satish Kumar and questioned him. During the investigation, he allegedly disclosed that he had been working with Ramprasad alias Ramau and Ghuruwa Ram to manufacture and circulate counterfeit notes.

Based on the information provided during the interrogation, police arrested the other two suspects as well.

Investigators said the three allegedly began producing counterfeit currency in July 2026.

Rented Room Used for Printing

According to police, the accused had rented a room near the New Bus Stand for the alleged operation.

Investigators found that Ramprasad and Satish had purchased a colour printer on July 13. Ramprasad allegedly rented the room afterwards, where the three men reportedly worked together.

Police said the accused had limited computer knowledge and no previous experience in making counterfeit currency. Despite this, they allegedly used a colour printer to reproduce notes and then cut them manually.

Fake Currency Used to Repay Loan

Police suspect the accused intended to circulate the counterfeit notes as genuine currency.

As part of the alleged plan, the accused gave Dinesh ₹4.50 lakh in counterfeit notes while claiming it was repayment of the outstanding loan. Police said Satish and Ramprasad were involved in delivering the counterfeit currency.

The poor quality of the notes, however, allegedly led to the fraud being detected.

₹12.50 Lakh in Fake Currency Seized

Police said counterfeit currency was recovered from the three accused as well as from the amount handed over to Dinesh.

• Satish Kumar: ₹2 lakh

• Ramprasad alias Ramau: ₹4.50 lakh

• Ghuruwa Ram: ₹1.50 lakh

• Dinesh Kumar Yadav: ₹4.50 lakh

The total amount of counterfeit currency seized in connection with the case was therefore ₹12.50 lakh.

Police also seized a printer/photocopy machine, mobile phones and a Tata Punch EV.

Case Registered Under BNS

A case has been registered at Pondi outpost under Bodla police station as Crime No. 101/26 under Sections 179 and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Sections 178, 180 and 181 were also added during the investigation.

Police are now investigating how many counterfeit notes the accused allegedly printed and where they may have circulated them.

Investigators are also examining whether other people were involved in the alleged operation and whether the three accused had previously supplied counterfeit currency elsewhere.

The arrested accused have been sent to jail, while further investigation into the alleged counterfeit currency network is underway.

Raipur Police have cracked a daylight robbery case in the Gudhiyari police station area within hours of the incident, arresting the alleged mastermind while continuing searches for three other accused who remain on the run.

The arrested accused has been identified as Kanwar Bagh, who is alleged to have planned and executed the robbery along with his associates. Police said raids are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover the looted cash.

Victim Assaulted Before Robbery

According to police, complainant Ajit Nadar lodged a report at Ramnagar police outpost stating that on July 30, around 6:30 pm, his son had left home to go to a nearby shop. When he reached Gopal Nagar, Kanwar Bagh, a local resident, allegedly intercepted him along with three accomplices.

The accused reportedly abused the victim, threatened him with dire consequences, assaulted him and fled after snatching the cash he was carrying.

Based on the complaint, Gudhiyari Police registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.

Special Team Formed

Taking the incident seriously, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Zone) Deepmala Kashyap directed officers to ensure the immediate arrest of those involved.

Following the instructions, Additional DCP Aditya Pandey, Assistant Commissioner of Police Poornima Lama, Ramnagar Outpost In-charge and the Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit (ACCU) constituted a special investigation team to trace the accused.

Mastermind Identified Through Technical Evidence

Police examined eyewitness accounts, questioned the victim and analysed technical evidence along with information gathered through local intelligence.

The investigation led officers to Kanwar Bagh, who was taken into custody shortly after the incident.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to committing the robbery with three associates.

Search On For Remaining Accused

Police said the identities of the remaining three accused have been established, and multiple teams are conducting raids to arrest them.

Officials added that efforts are also underway to recover the stolen cash and any other evidence linked to the robbery.

Further investigation into the case is in progress.

A family in Chhattisgarh's Balod district allegedly lost over ₹13.13 lakh after fraudsters posing as astrologers promised to cure a stage-IV cancer patient through religious rituals and spiritual practices. Police have registered a case against several accused from Uttar Pradesh and launched an investigation into the alleged fraud.

The complaint was filed by 55-year-old Premlata Chandrakar, a resident of Sirri village under Ranchirai police station limits. She alleged that the accused exploited her husband's critical illness and emotionally manipulated the family into making repeated online payments over nearly one-and-a-half years.

Television Advertisement Led to Contact

According to the complaint, Premlata came across an advertisement of Pandit Ved Prakash Tiwari's Lakshmi Narayan Jyotish Sanstha on a religious television channel while searching for treatment options for her husband, who has been diagnosed with stage-IV cancer.

After contacting the mobile number displayed in the advertisement, she was allegedly assured that special religious rituals and pujas could completely cure her husband's illness.

Initially, the accused reportedly asked her to transfer ₹30,000 through a QR code, followed by another ₹18,000 payment on November 28, 2024. Thereafter, they continued demanding money under different pretexts, claiming additional rituals were required for recovery.

Family Borrowed Money, Mortgaged Gold

Police said the complainant transferred money through multiple bank accounts, PhonePe, Google Pay and other digital payment platforms between November 2024 and May 2026.

To arrange the money, Premlata allegedly mortgaged her gold jewellery and borrowed funds from relatives and acquaintances.

According to the FIR, payments included:

• ₹2.30 lakh through her daughter Ruhi Chandrakar

• ₹7.40 lakh through acquaintance Aman Dewangan

• ₹2.05 lakh through Chhatrapal Sahu

• Additional transfers through Nehul Nirmal, Tushar Sahu and Jayant Deshmukh

The total amount transferred allegedly reached ₹13,13,673.

Fresh Calls, Promise of Refund

The complainant alleged that after no improvement in her husband's condition, she demanded the money back.

She then reportedly received another call from someone claiming to be Ved Prakash Tiwari, who allegedly stated that some people had misused his institution's name and assured her that the entire amount would be refunded within two months.

However, according to the complaint, no refund was made.

Threatened With CBI and Police Action

The woman further alleged that the accused later contacted her again and claimed that Rahul Tiwari's father had died by suicide, leaving behind a note mentioning her and Ved Prakash Tiwari.

The callers allegedly threatened that if she did not continue making payments, Uttar Pradesh Police, the CBI, and other agencies would implicate her in a murder case.

Police said the complainant transferred additional money out of fear before eventually approaching law enforcement.

Police Register Case

Based on the complaint, Balod Police have registered an FIR against Ved Prakash Tiwari, Srijan Tiwari, Rahul Tiwari and other unidentified persons.

Additional Superintendent of Police Monika Thakur said a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to cheating and common intention. Investigators are examining the financial transactions, bank accounts and digital payment records submitted by the complainant.

Police said efforts are underway to identify and arrest all those involved in the alleged fraud.

The investigation is continuing.

A 21-year-old waiter was assaulted and choked by a customer in Mahasumund after the bar was asked to close for the night. The incident, captured on CCTV, happened at Sapna Bar in the City Kotwali police station area. Police have arrested the accused and sent him to jail.

The accused, Harsh Chandrakar, arrived at the bar around 11:30 pm on June 20 with his friend Damu Sahu to drink. When the staff told them at about 12:10 am that the bar needed to close, Harsh allegedly got angry, started using caste slurs and said, “You don’t know me.” The victim, Vivek Kumar Kurre, a waiter from Bhalesar village who has worked at Sapna Bar for two years, told police that Harsh then grabbed his neck, beat him with fists, threatened to kill him and used obscene language. He also made insulting remarks about Baba Guru Ghasyidas.

The bar manager Ranjit Tiwari, Pramod Tiwari and owner Ramdev Sahu intervened and calmed the situation. Vivek said the entire event was recorded on CCTV inside the bar.

After the incident, Vivek filed a complaint at Mahasumund police station and demanded strict action against Harsh, saying Harsh had visited the bar several times before and was aware of his caste. Police registered a case against Harsh under BNS sections 296, 115(2), 351(3) and 302, and also added provisions under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 (amended 2015): sections 3(1)(r), 3(1)(s) and 3(1)(v). These provisions apply when a person belonging to an SC is assaulted, insulted or publicly humiliated on the basis of caste.

City Kotwali police said Harsh was arrested on the victim’s complaint, produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Harsh runs a transport business. His younger brother, Shubham Chandrakar, has been absconding for the past seven months in a separate assault case.

Accused Nageshwar Singh Baghel picked up from Purwa Kalyanpur village in joint operation; cyber cell investigating social media post and possible foreign link

A man was arrested from Rewa district on Sunday for allegedly posting obscene and derogatory comments on social media against Aditi Yadav, the daughter of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav.

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), along with the Kanpur Commissionerate Cyber Crime Police and Rewa police, conducted a joint operation to apprehend the accused. Nageshwar Singh Baghel (32), a resident of Purwa Kalyanpur village under Panwar police station limits in Rewa district, was taken into custody from his village.

The case originated from a complaint filed by the National Secretary of the Samajwadi Party Advocates' Wing at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Kanpur Commissionerate. The complaint alleged that a Facebook user had shared an altered image of Akhilesh Yadav's daughter along with vulgar and derogatory remarks.

Following the complaint, police registered Case No. 38/2026 at the Cyber Crime Police Station under multiple sections: Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with words or acts intended to insult a woman's modesty; Section 336(4) of the BNS, relating to forgery intended to damage a person's reputation; and Section 66E of the Information Technology Act, which addresses privacy violations in cyberspace.

The Cyber Crime Police launched an investigation, examining technical data obtained from the social media platform along with digital evidence and electronic records. The investigation led them to Rewa in Madhya Pradesh.

An STF team from Uttar Pradesh reached Madhya Pradesh and, with the help of local police, traced the accused. Panwar police station in-charge Praveen Upadhyay led the local team that conducted the joint operation and took Baghel into custody. After completing necessary legal formalities, the accused was handed over to the Uttar Pradesh STF and taken to Uttar Pradesh for further questioning.

Police officials said the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are also looking into whether any other individuals or digital platforms are linked to the case. Investigators have found that one of the social media accounts linked to the controversy was allegedly being operated from the United States.

Kanpur Commissioner of Police Raghubir Lal said the police are committed to protecting the dignity, respect and safety of women. "Sharing edited images, false information, offensive comments or any content on social media that damages a woman's reputation is a punishable offence, and strict legal action will be taken against those involved," he said.

Earlier, on June 17, FIRs were registered against multiple individuals accused of making objectionable comments about Akhilesh Yadav's daughter. The controversy had drawn widespread condemnation, with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath publicly defending Aditi Yadav and directing police to register an FIR against those responsible.

Following his arrest, Baghel was produced before a court, which later granted him bail.

Police officials have made it clear that social media platforms are being continuously monitored for objectionable and offensive content, and strict legal action will be taken in such cases. Further investigation is underway.
