A weekend outing turned tragic when a 17-year-old boy drowned in the Kaliasot Dam under the Chunabhatti police station limits on Sunday afternoon. The minor, who had gone to the scenic spot with three of his friends to take photographs, slipped into a deep, restricted zone of the reservoir. His body was recovered after an intensive two-hour search operation by local divers.

In a separate incident in the city on the same day, a three-year-old girl lost her life after accidentally falling into a water-logged pit near her house in the Kajlikheda area.

Photogenic Spot Turns Fatal at Kaliasot Dam

The deceased teenager has been identified as Angad Dande (17), a resident of Jatखेड़ी (Misrod) and son of Santosh Dande. According to the police, Angad and three of his friends traveled to Kaliasot Dam on Sunday to spend the afternoon taking photos.

The group walked down a sloping embankment near a local police outpost and stepped into the water to pose for pictures.

A team of professional divers was immediately dispatched, and after a grueling two-hour search, they pulled Angad's body out of the water. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was officially declared dead.

Warning Signages and Fencing Routinely Ignored

Police officials expressed deep concern over the recurring safety violations at the dam. The spot where the accident occurred is clearly marked as a restricted area due to the presence of crocodiles and sudden drop-offs in water depth.

"The municipal corporation and local police have installed clear warning signages, iron fencing, and barricades to keep people away from the dangerous slopes. Unfortunately, visitors frequently bypass these barriers or create gaps in the fencing to get close to the water for selfies, risking their lives in the process," a Chunabhatti police official stated.

3-Year-Old Drowns in Water-Logged Pit at Kajlikheda

In another heartbreaking accident on Sunday afternoon, a three-year-old girl named Devika died after drowning in a rain-filled pit near Dholi Khadan in the Kajlikheda police station area.

Her father, Raj Raikwar, was working at a nearby brick kiln while the child was playing outside their home. While playing, Devika accidentally stumbled into a 3-to-4-foot-deep pit that had filled up with rainwater.

When her family noticed she was missing, they began a search and found her unresponsive in the water. She was rushed to a nearby private hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival. The police have registered an accidental death report (Margar) and sent the body for a post-mortem examination.
