Alia Bhatt Says Films Should Be Entertainment-Oriented, Not Labelled Female-Centric During ‘Alpha’ Promotion in Jaipur

Actor Alia Bhatt believes Indian cinema should move beyond labels such as “female-oriented films” and focus instead on creating stories that entertain audiences. The Bollywood star shared her views while promoting her upcoming action-thriller Alpha in Jaipur on Monday alongside co-star Sharvari Wagh.

The two actors participated in a series of promotional events across the city, interacting with fans, media representatives and students ahead of the film’s release.

Responding to a question about the growing space for women-led action films in Indian cinema, Alia said the industry should avoid categorising films based on gender.

According to the actor, the primary objective should be to create entertaining cinema for audiences rather than placing projects under labels such as female-oriented or male-oriented films.

The event began with the actors meeting members of a women bikers’ group before taking part in media interactions. Later, they watched the film’s trailer and teaser with fans at a theatre, where the crowd responded enthusiastically.

Addressing the audience after the screening, Alia said she hoped viewers would bring the same excitement and energy to theatres when the film releases.

Alpha marks the first full-fledged action film for both Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh. Speaking about the experience, Alia described the project as the fulfilment of a long-standing dream.

She said the film was one of the most challenging projects of her career, largely because it required extensive action training and physically demanding stunt sequences. The actor revealed that she performed most of the stunts herself and underwent months of preparation for the role.

Alia also acknowledged that injuries were part of the process but described them as an expected aspect of action filmmaking.

Sharing her experience of working on the film, she said movie sets often become like temporary families, with cast and crew spending months together while filming and building close bonds during the production journey.

Sharvari Wagh echoed similar sentiments, calling the experience both enjoyable and educational. She said the project allowed her to learn new skills and gain valuable experience as an actor.

During an interactive session, Alia was also asked about the meaning of the title Alpha. Responding in a light-hearted manner, she said the people around her are what make someone “alpha,” adding that those who help an individual become better and stand out are the true alphas in life.

When asked whether her daughter Raha could also be described as an alpha, the actor jokingly replied that Raha certainly was, because she is the daughter of Alpha.

The conversation also touched upon Alia and Sharvari’s recent appearance on comedian Samay Raina’s online show. Alia said both actors enjoyed the experience and praised the host for making them feel comfortable throughout the recording.

According to her, while viewers saw only a portion of the final content online, the team spent several hours together during filming, creating a relaxed and enjoyable environment.

As part of their Jaipur visit, the actors also attended an event at JECRC University. Students gathered to watch the trailer and interact with the stars. Activities included arm-wrestling competitions among students, with winners receiving trophies and film merchandise from the cast.

With its mix of action, drama and star power, Alpha is being positioned as one of the major releases of the year. The promotional campaign continues across multiple cities as the film gears up for its theatrical debut.
