Kit Harington is heading from Westeros to Hogwarts. The Game of Thrones star has been cast as Gilderoy Lockhart in Season 2 of HBO's upcoming Harry Potter series, replacing Nicholas Hoult, who has exited the project because of scheduling conflicts. The recasting was reported by Deadline and confirmed by multiple entertainment outlets.

Harington will play the famously vain Defence Against the Dark Arts professor in the season based on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the second book in J.K. Rowling's series. Season 2 is expected to begin production this autumn.

The casting is particularly interesting because Harington already has a connection with the character. He previously voiced Gilderoy Lockhart in the full-cast audio adaptation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Speaking about the role previously, Harington said his love for the books made accepting the character an easy decision.

Why Did Nicholas Hoult Leave?

Hoult had been announced for the role of Lockhart earlier this month, but his time in the Harry Potter series lasted only briefly. He has now departed the production because of scheduling conflicts involving his other commitments.

The change comes before filming on the second season gets underway, allowing HBO to recast the role ahead of Lockhart's appearance in the adaptation of Chamber of Secrets.

For Harington, the role represents a very different character from Jon Snow, the brooding hero he played for eight seasons in Game of Thrones. Lockhart, by contrast, is known for his flamboyant personality, exaggerated confidence and obsession with his own reputation.

From Jon Snow to Gilderoy Lockhart

Harington's casting creates an unusual crossover for HBO viewers. He became internationally famous as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, one of HBO's biggest fantasy franchises, and will now appear in another major fantasy property from the network.

The actor's previous experience voicing Lockhart could also make the transition particularly interesting for fans. Unlike the audiobook performance, the HBO series will give Harington the opportunity to physically portray the character and develop Lockhart's personality on screen.

When Will Harry Potter Season 2 Arrive?

The new HBO Harry Potter series has not yet premiered. Season 1 is scheduled to debut on HBO and HBO Max on December 25, 2026, with the first season adapting Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

The second season will move the story to Chamber of Secrets, bringing Lockhart into the Hogwarts storyline alongside the new versions of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

With Harington now officially attached to Season 2, the casting has added another major name to HBO's long-planned return to the Wizarding World.

The actor said he encountered fraudulent casting agencies while he was still in college. Responding to casting calls posted on social media, he attended auditions where aspiring actors were allegedly offered different "packages" costing ₹10,000, ₹15,000 and ₹20,000. He was told that creating a portfolio and obtaining a card were mandatory before any work could be offered.

"It happened to me twice. That's when I realised it wasn't an audition but a way to extract money from newcomers," Dhaval said, urging aspiring actors never to pay for auditions. According to him, legitimate casting directors do not ask artists for money in exchange for roles.

Dhaval, who is the brother of actor Mrunal Thakur, said his career changed after fellow actors introduced him to genuine casting groups, where he began receiving authentic audition opportunities. He advised newcomers to remain cautious of fraudulent offers circulating on social media and to verify the credibility of casting agencies before responding.

The interview comes as Thukra Ke Mera Pyaar Season 2 continues to attract viewers on OTT. Dhaval plays Kuldeep Kumar, while Sanchita Basu essays the role of Shanvika Chauhan. Both actors discussed their journey with the series, their struggles before entering the industry and the bond they developed during filming.

Sanchita revealed that acting was never part of her original career plans. She began creating short videos while studying in Class 9, despite receiving very few views initially. A viral video eventually changed her fortunes, leading to an unexpected offer for a Telugu film.

She admitted that her first reaction was disbelief, assuming the offer was fake because of the growing number of fraudulent calls in the industry. It was only after her manager and casting director assured her of its authenticity that she accepted the project.

Interestingly, Sanchita disclosed that the film had already been completed with another actress before the makers decided to cast a fresh face and reshoot the entire project with her. At the time, she was in Class 11 and balanced film shoots in Hyderabad with her school examinations back home in Bhagalpur.

Reflecting on their first meeting, both actors said they met during the audition process before building a friendship through workshops and script-reading sessions. They believe that mutual understanding helped strengthen their on-screen chemistry across the two seasons of the series.

Sharing memorable moments from the shoot, Sanchita recalled learning to ride a motorcycle for the first season and falling several times during practice. Dhaval joked that the entire crew remained alert whenever bike sequences were scheduled because everyone knew she was still learning.

Asked what they had learned from each other, Sanchita credited Dhaval for teaching her to understand the emotional requirement of every scene before performing it. Dhaval, meanwhile, praised Sanchita's dedication and said he learned how to manage social media professionally after watching her independently create, edit and publish content even on off days.

The actors also spoke about handling rejection in real life. Dhaval said he does not believe in revenge and prefers to forgive and move on, while Sanchita echoed a similar sentiment, saying she would rather accept disappointment than respond with anger.

Looking ahead, Sanchita confirmed that she is working on a new Telugu film, with an official announcement expected soon. Dhaval revealed that he has completed an independent film and hinted at more projects lined up for release later this year.

When asked about the possibility of a third season of Thukra Ke Mera Pyaar, both actors remained non-committal, thanking audiences for the overwhelming response to the first two seasons and asking viewers to continue supporting the series as new episodes are released.

According to reports, the review panel was formed after an appeal by BJP Punjab president Keval Dhillon. BJP leader RP Singh confirmed that the committee would study the film’s content, factual claims and overall presentation before making recommendations. The film had originally been developed under the title Punjab 95 but was later renamed Satluj before its digital release.

The film briefly appeared on an OTT platform before being taken down. Government sources have claimed that the project did not receive the required approval from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in its original form. Officials have also cited concerns that certain portions of the film could potentially be misused by anti-India elements.

The removal has sparked sharp reactions from filmmakers, artists and free speech advocates, many of whom argue that the film tells an important chapter of Punjab’s history.

At the centre of the debate is Jaswant Singh Khalra, a human rights activist who became internationally known during the 1990s for raising allegations of large-scale human rights violations in Punjab during the militancy era. Khalra claimed to have uncovered records suggesting that thousands of unidentified bodies had been secretly cremated after alleged fake encounters.

His work attracted national and international attention but also placed him in direct confrontation with powerful institutions.

On September 6, 1995, Khalra was allegedly abducted from outside his residence in Amritsar. His disappearance triggered one of the most significant human rights cases in modern Indian legal history.

What followed was a long and determined legal battle led by his wife, Paramjit Kaur Khalra.

The legal battle finally reached its conclusion in 2011 when the Supreme Court upheld the High Court’s judgment, bringing closure to a struggle that had lasted nearly sixteen years.

According to officials, the suggested changes were not implemented by the filmmakers. The project later resurfaced under a different title, Satluj, and was released directly on an OTT platform, where CBFC certification is not mandatory under the existing regulatory framework.

Officials maintained that digital streaming content falls under the IT Rules, 2021, rather than the CBFC’s certification process. Once the matter came to the government's attention, ZEE5 was reportedly instructed to remove the film pending further directions.

The controversy intensified after filmmaker Anurag Kashyap publicly criticised the decision. In a social media post, Kashyap compared director Honey Trehan’s situation with that of acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi, who has faced censorship, restrictions and legal action in Iran over his films and public positions.

Kashyap’s remarks added an international dimension to the debate, with several film industry figures expressing concerns about creative freedom and the treatment of politically sensitive subjects in cinema.

Meanwhile, Diljit Dosanjh reacted to the film’s removal by stating that he had anticipated such a possibility. He claimed that many viewers had already downloaded the film and encouraged supporters to continue sharing it.

His remarks sparked another controversy, with copies of the film reportedly appearing across social media platforms and video-sharing websites. Clips and full versions of the movie began circulating online soon after it disappeared from the streaming service.

In response, ZEE5 issued a public appeal urging viewers not to support piracy. The platform stated that it was making efforts to resolve the situation and hoped the film could return in the future through appropriate channels.
